I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and the newly installed Board of Elders (BoE) and officers of Madison Park Church to you. As the newly elected chair, I had the privilege to lead a retreat meeting of the BoE and officers on May 1-2. I want to tell you how humbled, yet privileged I am to work with this group of spiritually mature leaders who care passionately about seeking God’s best, His will, and always doing what is right for Madison Park. Before introducing these wonderful leaders to you, I would like to provide a little background, and explanation of the BoE responsibilities as assigned and described in the Bylaws of Madison Park. The Mission of Madison Park Church is to expand the Kingdom—to proclaim, to heal, to free, and to restore. Our mission is supported by four Core Values that guide and steer us in all that we do. These are foundational ideas to be embraced by all who call Madison Park their church home. These Core Values are: Truth, Worship, Community and Mission. The Board of Elders is charged to work with the pastoral and ministry staff to maximize the church’s health and success, fulfilling its mission statement and bringing its Core Introduction to Elders by Clark E. Simpson, Chair, Board of Elders biweekly weavings of the community at Madison Park Church of God—May 21, 2014 continued on page 4 April–June Beneficiary: India Make a purchase at Holy Grounds and a portion of the proceeds will benefit MPC’s ongoing ministry in India. Come early or linger after the Sunday worship services to enjoy conversation and refreshments. Visit MadisonParkChurch.org to view the full menu. Sundays, 8:30am-11:30am MasterCard, Visa and Discover accepted. Worship Services SUNDAY 9:00am - A blend of traditional and contemporary music, prayer, and teaching from God’s Word. 10:45am - Features a praise band with distinctively modern edge and teaching from God’s Word. Classes are offered for all ages at 9:00am and 10:45am. For details, check out the Ministries Guide at MadisonParkChurch.org/ministries or pick up a copy at Grand Central. Although Dr. Mark Fulton may have been trained to deal with teeth, he and wife Kathy are acutely consumed with a passion of their hearts. Actively involved at MPC and the Anderson community, they are following the call God has placed upon their lives to use their gifts and passion as appointed missionaries to Haiti through Church of God Global Missions. Mark was embraced by Christ and involved in ministry from an early age. He earned his BA in biology from Indiana University (IU), Bloomington, Indiana followed by his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from IU School of Dentistry. After accepting Christ as a teenager, Kathy attended IU and received a BA in quantitative business analysis and later pursued a master’s in speech pathology from Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana. They met at IU as they remember, “We were in a musical variety together and began dating. After graduation we married and now, more than thirty years, three adult children and two grandchildren, we are following our heart.” During the early years of his dental practice, Mark served on a medical missions committee for the Church of God. They share, “It was through this group that we first felt God calling us to go on a weeklong mission trip to Haiti, where some basic dentistry was desperately needed. While in Haiti, God placed the people of Haiti in our hearts, and we knew that the trip was just the first step of an adventure with the Lord in Haiti. In Haiti Mark will oversee and improve business operations at the outpatient clinic in Haiti. He will also coordinate and lead short- term medical trips to provide medical services not otherwise available in the St. Ard area. Kathy will identify and train Haitian personnel to perform bookkeeping and accounting duties compliant with Haitian and U.S. government standards. She will also provide speech therapy services at English-speaking Haitian schools. Through the years, the Fultons have worked with other missionaries and mission organizations to establish a medical clinic in A Passion of the Heart continued on page 4
