I/E

Hi, and welcome to the 2014 Discover Ontario Car Rally.

The following short forms will be used in the rally:

R Turn right

L Turn left

SA Straight ahead

Tee Tee intersection approached from the stem of the T

TS Traffic signal

Bear A turn of less than 90 degrees

Jog A tee in one direction followed quickly by a turn in the other direction

Stop Stop sign

SOS Start of section

EOS End of section - time to reset your trip odometer to 0.0 and start the next section.

RRX Railway Crossing

BQZ Begin Quiet Zone - No extra lights or noise

EQZ End Quiet Zone

CAS Commence Average Speed

ORT Oncoming Rally Traffic

Roads with "Dead End" or No Exit" signs are deemed not to exist.

The last instruction of a section is the same as the first instruction of the next section. If you

come to an intersection for which you have no instruction, just go straight ahead.

All Checkpoints except the finish are timed to the second. The finish is timed to the minute.

There are no spelling 'gotchas' in this rally. If you come across a spelling mistake or the like, it

is not a trick. Also, road names like Sideroad 23 and 23rd Sideroad are considered the same.

Competitors are at all times bound by the provisions of the Provincial Highway Traffic Act and

other statutes. The organizer reserves the right to disqualify any competitor who disregards the

rules of the road.

IF YOU GET LOST determine where you are on the map provided. Go to the start of the next

section. Reset your odometer to zero and you are back in the rally. Car 0 times are given at the

end of each section. This time plus your car number is the time you should be there. If you are

more than 30 minutes behind this time, skip ahead until you are within the 30 minute window.

PLEASE NOTE: If you encounter any major problems and are not able to make it to the finish,

please be sure to call the rally organizer, Brooke Jacobs, on his cell phone to let him know. His

number is 416 930-2590.

What we’ve got on the next page is a car-shaped word search puzzle. The list of words at

the bottom can all be found in the grid, in any direction. Once you find a word, circle the letters.

Once all of the words are found, the remaining, unused letters form your instructions. Top to

bottom, left to right, the letter instructions are in order of the intersections on the route. An R

indicates a right, an L indicates a left and an S indicates a straight ahead.

Section 2 is 27.41 km long and ends heading north on Wist Road about to tee right, east, onto

Canal Road. 44.052557, -79.608825 Car zero is due here approximately 2:31.

Time for some math. These instructions are in order. The decimal numbers are the time,

in seconds, from the previous instruction calculated at the given speed. For example the second

instruction, acute right, is 2.613 minutes from SOS driving at 45 km/h.

These times do not include any pauses given in the instructions or assigned at any checkpoints.
