President’s Column
-Judy Fernandez
Hello Neighbors! This month is a very important one. We have our LVNA board elections! Without neighbor’s stepping up and being apart of a very strong association, we will not continue to have our wonderful events throughout the year. Things like dumpster weekend, annual picnic, and the holiday parade will not happen! This association was formed back in 1989 with myself and four other family daycare providers. We felt it was time for our children to feel special about where they live. Lakewood/Fairwood has had a reputation (and still to this day) of being on the wrong side of the tracks. The LVNA has worked very hard to establish a relationship with the City and we have changed some of their opinions, but the is still more work. Throughout LVNA’s history, we have had many wonderful people step up and be part of something very special. I would like to name these people and hopefully most of you are still living here or have moved on to form other associations in different neighborhoods. Thank you so much for continuing our quest to change people’s opinions about Lakewood. Board member’s from 1992 until present : Vicki Piazza, Judy Fernandez, Tammy Iglesias,
Jessica lee, Linda Cheung, Debbie Bakker, Carmen Paredes, Bob Lacy, Matthew Castringno, Debbie Nixon, Nick Wright, Angie De La Cruz, Debbie Holl, Cliff Arnette, Bill Kohrt, Craig Crawford, Violette Pavatea, Partick Renworth, Ana Maria Ortege, Elena Anderson, Geoff Carter, Mel Anderson, Fred Fowler, Tom Freeman Lupe Raminez, Phyllis Fowler, Arba Tucker, Michael Jenesse, Linda Rohles, Jennifer & Jeff Slack, John Mayer, Linda White, Sarah Daugherty, Scott Lewis, Brian Smithson, Phyllis Murphy, Ursula Syrova ,Thom Mayer, Skip Gottschalk, Art Daugherty, Pat Boyle, Grace Chung, Theresa Giorno, Lori Sabala, Faith Rogers, Michael Majchrowicz Felipe Misch, Bev Woidyla, Christy Majchrowicz, Terry Lin, and Joan Simon.
A special thanks to Brian Smithson and Leah Lane, who had the entire newsletter’s since 1992! That is where I retrieved all of our wonderful board members names.
I hope that we have not forgotten anyone. Many of these people have served in different
position‘s throughout their LVNA term. As you can see, it has taken a lot of people to run this board and hopefully we will see some new names this month.
Also, another thank you to all the newsletter walker’s and endless volunteers each year. Without you. we could not get the word out each month or hold our annual events. I am looking forward to seeing many new faces this month to vote and welcome your new LVNA board
members.

Prevent a TV Fall in
Your House
From the Safe Kids Coalition
Every two weeks, a child dies when a television or a piece of furniture falls on him.
In the incidents recorded by the Consumer Product Safety Community (CPSC), toddlers were often climbing on entertainment units, dressers, bookcases or other pieces of furniture to reach the television. In some cases, this led to a TV or a piece of furniture falling onto and crushing the child. These incidents are tragic - and preventable. You can easily safeguard your house by doing the following:
Make sure that your furniture is stable.
Install an anchor on all entertainment units, TV stands, bookcases, shelving, and dressers. Attach the anchor to the wall or floor.
Place televisions on sturdy furniture appropriate for the size of the TV or on a low-rise base.
Push the TV as far back as possible from the front of its
stand.
Remove items such as toys and remote
controls from the top of the TV and furniture. These items may tempt children to climb.
Place electrical cords out of a child's reach and teach children not to play with the cords.
Between 2000 and 2008, CPSC received reports of nearly 200 deaths to children eight years old and younger from TVs, furniture and appliances falling on them.
More than 16,000 children five years old and younger are treated in emergency rooms each year because of injuries associated with these TV, furniture, and appliance tipovers, according to CPSC staff's most recent estimates from 2006. Don't let your television or your furniture endanger your children. Take action now to
prevent this from happening to your child.

Window Shot
Brian and I were home yesterday when we heard a very loud crack. He said it sounded to him like a large metal sheet had fallen down. To me it sounded like a bullet. We didn't realize until later that day that one of our large windows had a hole in it. This window is in the peak of the 2nd story. Whatever struck the window only broke the outer pain. When I spoke with Officer O'Hara, he said it might be a pellet gun or a B-B gun.
We heard the loud crack between 8 and 8:30 on Sat, Mar 3. So if anyone else has had a problem, or if anyone has any leads as to what happened, I would love for them to contact me at 408 738 5939
The round fractured area of the glass is about a quarter's width in diameter. Still, it will be a costly replacement
