Public Health- Background Information

- 1 case of Mumps confirmed on campus. Eventually later confirmed in 3 other individuals

- Worked with Student Health Services, Local District Health Department, and NC Division of Public Health

- What information was shared- Cause/spreading/symptoms/prevention of mumps; Process Appalachian is using to

identify students who may have been in contact with infected student

- What was the response- Nosy parents - Questions about Appalachian’s vaccination policy

Timeline April 7th – diagnosis confirmed (infection window April 4th – 11th ) April 8th – 1st notification email to campus community and to parents April 10th – Update email sent, no new confirmed cases April 27th – New confirmed case, new email sent May 11th – 4th confirmed case, update email sent
