• Aim– Test feasibility and user satisfaction with 3 low-cost,
home-based diet and exercise programs, as well as point-of-decision prompts among these Veterans.
• Relevance– Obesity is significant health problem among Veterans
receiving care from VA. – Veterans from OIF/OIF experience many chronic
conditions, which can make a physically active lifestyle difficult.

Method
• 3 interventions:– Free Web site (Sparkpeople). – Physical activity monitor (BodyMedia FIT).– Structured high-intensity intervention (P90X).
• Randomized crossover trial:– 26 participants used 2 of the 3 programs for 6 wk each.– All used point-of-decision prompts.

Results
• In general, participants were satisfied with and lost weight with each intervention.

Conclusion
• Study demonstrated that these low-cost interventions could be successful with OIF/OEF Veteran population.
• Larger and longer study is planned to further investigate effectiveness of these interventions.
