A note for you: There are many different religious orders in the Church. There are Francis-cans, Dominicans, Jesuits, Carmelites, Benedictines and many, many oth-ers. What is a religious order and how did they begin?

It all begins with the teaching of Jesus. Even though we all are followers of Jesus and have received the same message, each person lives out that message in his own way. The way in which we live out the message of God in our personal life depends much on our own personality and in the situation in the world around us. We live the message within the reality in which we live.

Some persons follow Jesus special way that attract others who want to live the same way. Some people saw how St. Francis of Assisi lived. They were attracted and started following his way of living and ministry. They formed a community of followers today called the Franciscans. Other saw how St. Ignatius of Loyola lived. They were attracted to him and began a community of followers called the Jesuits. Some people saw how Mother Theresa lived and served the poor. They formed a community called Missionaries of Chari-ty. This is the way almost all religious orders were formed. In time, the Church officially recognized these different communities as special part of the Church. So, to understand the difference between one religious order and another we need to study the live of the saint who inspired his followers. We need to deserve that saints attitudes and the spirit that made him be the kind of person he was.

Religious orders are not usually under the rule of a bishop. They usually don’t belong just to one diocese. They have their own organization. They usually elect their own superiors. The headquarters of the order is in Rome and under the rule of the Pope. Since a religious order does not belong to any diocese its members can be sent to different parts of the world, accord-ing to the needs of the church in that country. Some became missionaries. Some start schools or universities. Others work with the poor and the sick and even start hospitals. Others work in parishes where there aren’t enough priests. Their work is to serve the church wherever they are needed accord-ing to the spirit and example of their founder.

Una nota para ti: Hay muchas órdenes religiosas en la Iglesia. Hay Franciscanos, Dominicos, Jesuitas, Carmelitas, Benedictinos y muchos, muchos más. ¿Que es una orden religiosa y como empezaron?

Empieza con las enseñanzas de Jesús. Aunque todos somos seguidores de Jesús y todos hemos recibido el mismo mensaje. Cada persona vive ese mensaje de su propia manera. La manera en que vivimos el mensaje de Dios en nuestra vida personal depende mucho de nuestra personalidad propia y las situaciones del mundo que nos rodean. Vivimos el mensaje según la realidad en que vivimos.

Algunos siguen a Jesús de una manera especial que atrae a otros que qui-sieron vivir de la misma manera. Algunos ven como San Francisco de Asís vivió. Se sienten atraídos y empiezan a vivir según su modo de vivir y su ministerio. Formaron una comunidad de seguidores que hoy llamamos los Franciscanos. Otros vieron como vivía San Ignacio de Loyola. Se sintieron atraídos a él y comenzaron una comunidad que hoy llamamos Jesuitas. Algunos vieron como Madre Teresa de Calcuta vivía y servía a los pobres. Ellas formaron una comunidad que hoy se llama las Misioneras de la Cari-dad. Esta es la manera en que casi todas las órdenes religiosas fueron fundadas. Así, para comprender la diferencia entre una orden religiosa y otra, tenemos que estudiar la vida del santo que inspiro a sus seguidores. Tenemos que descubrir las actitudes y espíritu de ese santo que lo hizo ser la clase de persona que era.

Las órdenes religiosas normalmente no están bajo el mando de algún obis-po. No pertenecen a una sola diócesis. Ellos tienen su organización propia. Ellos eligen sus propios superiores. La oficina central de la orden está en Roma, bajo la autoridad de Papa. Como la orden religiosa no pertenece a ninguna diócesis, los miembros de esa comunidad pueden ser enviados a diferentes partes del mundo según la necesidad de la Iglesia en ese país. Algunos se hacen misioneros, Otros fundan colegios y universidades. Otros sirven a los pobres y enfermos y quizás funden hospitales. Otros trabajan en las parroquias donde no hay sacerdotes suficientes. Su trabajo es servir a la Iglesia dondequiera que haya necesidad según el espíritu y ejemplo de su fundador.

DIOCESE OF TUCSON CATHOLIC CEMETERIES

A maintenance program has been initiated to inspect all of the stone benches and monuments in Holy Hope and All faiths Cemeteries. All pieces that are thought to be safety hazard due to instability are being dismantled and laid flat on the ground. Once all of the benches and monuments are inspected, workers will re-assemble them. While the cemetery personal are working as quickly as they can to accomplish this task, we ask for your un-derstanding and patience. Thank you for your support of our Catholic Cemeteries. Se ha iniciado un programa de mantenimiento para inspeccionar todas la bancas y monumentos de piedra en los cementerios Holy Hope y All Faiths. Todas las piezas que se crea son peligrosas debido a la inestabilidad serán desmanteladas y puestas sobre el suelo. Una vez que todas las bancas y monumentos sean inspec-cionados, los trabajadores las re ensamblarán.
