FIG Young Surveyors Network (est. 2006)

Purpose:

To improve the number of young professionals participating within the FIG.

To help young professionals in the beginning of their careers with contacts.

To increase co-operation between the commissions and the students and young professionals network.

The target groups of this working group are Master- and PhD Students, young professionals and commission delegates.

In a time where many of the member organizations are facing difficulties to attract young people to the profession of surveying this working group have been created. The goal is to create connections between “older” and “younger” surveyors.

“The pressure on the land and resources - and therefore the

environment - will increase. Sustainable growth therefore will

determine strategies of politics, but also for surveyors. Spatial

information is vital because it shapes policy-making, surveyors are

responsible for translating raw data into pieces of information useful

for policy-makers. Spatial information needs to be reliable and

reusable, there lies a challenge for the surveyor of the future,

according to the Prime Minister.”

Social Tenure Domain Model (STDM):

The concept of the STDM is to provide a standard for representing ‘people – land’ relationships independent of the level of formality, legality and technical accuracy. This is a pro-poor land administration tool.

Social Tenure Relationships:

- Use rights

- Occupancy

- Tenancy

- Rents, leases
