There Be Dragons is an epic action-adventure romance set during the turmoil of the Spanish Civil War. The story traces the lives of two young men, Josemaria Escriva (Charlie Cox) and Manolo Torres (Wes Bentley),

childhood friends who are separated by the political upheaval of pre-war Spain to find themselves on opposite sides as war erupts. Choosing peace, Josemaria becomes a priest and struggles to spread reconciliation by founding the movement Opus Dei (work of God). Manolo chooses war and becomes a spy for the fascists. He becomes obsessed with a beautiful Hungarian revolutionary, Ildiko, who has joined the militia in pursuit of passion and purpose. But when Ildiko rejects him out of love for the courageous militia leader Oriol, Manolo’s jealousy leads him down a path of betrayal. As personal and national battles rage, the characters’ lives collide and their deepest struggles are illuminated through the fateful choices they make. Each will struggle to find the power of forgiveness over the forces tearing their lives and friendship apart.

“The key message is that the pain can stop, it doesn‘t have to go on. You can stop the cycle by forgiveness. I think

that‘s a really powerful message.”

“It is very important to remind people of this: that the world would be such a better place if everybody was more compassionate and forgiving and loving. It is really all so simple to do but movies like this are a reminder of what’s

really important.”

Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer (January 9, 1902- June 26, 1975) is known for

founding Opus Dei, a Catholic institution that helps people seek holiness in their work and ordinary activities. In 2002, he was solemnly canonized by Pope John Paul II. Josemaría grew up in a family that taught him the Christian way of life. As a teenager, he already recognized his calling to dedicate his life to God. He felt that God was asking him to do something. With a willingness to respond to this calling, Josemaría decided he could serve God best by becoming a priest. From 1918 to 1925, he devoted his time to formation and study inside the seminary. He received the sacrament of Holy Orders on March 28, 1925. Wanting to continue his studies, Josemaría went to University of Madrid to obtain his doctorate. In Madrid, he focused not only in his studies but also in his priestly work. He reached out to the poor and the dying patients inside hospitals. In 1928, while on a spiritual retreat, Josemaría received a revelation on what the Lord wants him to do. With a fervent desire to follow the Lord’s will, he founded an institution that encourages people of all social classes to struggle for holiness through secular life, which he later called Opus Dei. Even amid religious persecutions during the Spanish Civil War, Josemaría still continued his priestly ministry. He carried on with his work as a priest in secret even as he moved from one place to another and perilously traversed the Pyrenees. When the war ended in 1939, Josemaría finally obtained his doctorate in Law. In the following years, he spent his days giving retreats to the laity, religious and priests and constantly working on the development of Opus Dei. On June 26, 1975, Josemaría entrusted his soul to God as he peacefully died after collapsing in his office. On October 6, 2002, he was solemnly canonized by Pope John Paul II.

The University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) is a private, not-for-profit

institution of higher learning. It traces its beginnings to the Center for Research and Communication (CRC), a private think-tank that conducted economic and social research and offered graduate courses in economics. It gradually expanded its educational activities to other fields.

In 1995, it was granted university status by the Commission on Higher Education and has since been known as the University of Asia and the Pacific.

UA&P provides a powerful combination of liberal education and professional specialization. The formation of UA&P students is facilitated by an environment conducive to learning, qualified and dedicated teachers, a superior faculty-to-student ratio, and well-maintained facilities.

ADMISSIONS UA&P admits applicants on the basis of their College Entrance Exam results and high school grades. Involvement in the arts, athletics, and other worthwhile extra-curricular activities, as well as commitment to service and leadership, are also considered important. Generally, the University admits students who are determined to work hard and finish a degree in the institution. UA&P’s freshman intake is always for the 1st semester of each school year.
