Football Season is Here The very first television program I

watched in ldquolivingrdquo color was football Itwas on New Yearrsquos Day at my auntrsquos houseShe received the beautiful brand new TV forChristmas and was gracious enough to invitefriends and family over to share it with themduring the the Rose Bowl game

Normally the ladies spent their time in thekitchen visiting and preparing snacks for theguys during the game But this day was differ-

ent Everyone sat scrunchedtogether eyes glued to thesquare screen in the corner Thatwas the first of several eveningvisits to my aunts house Irsquom stillnot sure if it was to ldquovisitrdquo orwatch color TV It seemed forev-er before we finally had our owntelevision set I remember being

quite disappointed upon finding out that many ofmy favorite shows were still broadcast only in blackand white

I still enjoy watching the classic movies on occa-sion opting for a good mushy story over a popularreality show My 5-yr - old granddaughter watchedwith me one evening I looked down and noticedshe had such a puzzled look on her face ldquoGramardquoshe said ldquoWhy are those people grayrdquo

ldquoBecause itrsquos such an old movierdquo I repliedldquoLike yourdquo she asked ldquoYou arenrsquot grayrdquoHmmh Letrsquos try this againldquoA long time ago we didnrsquot have color TVrdquo I

beganldquoChange the channelrdquo she ordered ldquo I donrsquot like

The 26th AnnualIndianapolis Fall Boat amp RV Show

(BPT) - Football season is here and whether yourea diehard fan or just a fan of all the Sunday partieschances are youre going to attend or host a gettogether centered around the countrys favoritesport sometime soon Lifestyle expert Kris Schoels ofYoung Married Chic has some simple suggestionsfor making the most of football parties

DECORATIONSThe aesthetics of a party are half the fun so give

guests something fun to look at when they arentengrossed in the game Pick up plates cups napkinsand flags with a football theme from a party storeSchoels also recommends making your own foot-ball-themed decorations by taking a football-shapedstamp inking it with your favorite teams colors andstamping white napkins and plates

To really get in the game-day theme trade out atablecloth for green turf and paint your own goallines for a table topper Schoels says Fill footballhelmets with chips for a more creative touch andswap out serving trays for chalkboards to labelfoods and chalk out plays

DRINKSDrinks are a great opportunity to use some color to

express team pride advises SchoelsUse a glass drink dispenser to show off a bright

red punch for the Kansas City Chiefs add someblueberry juice to seltzer with a squeeze of lime forflavor to make a blue fizz for the New York Giantsor add a few drops of green food coloring to lemon-ade to show love for the Green Bay Packers shesuggests

If you are planning on having a kids tableview-ing area provide mini bottles of sports drink so thekids can get into the game as well

PUT A NEW TWIST ON STADIUM FOODS When it comes to game day food there are some

classic favorites both at home and at the stadiumlike nachos chicken fingers hot dogs and soft pret-

zels For your next party Schoels recommends put-ting a new twist on them with an ingredient thateveryone loves - melted cheese

A ready-to-eat fondue like the ones from Emmi ofSwitzerland are perfect for dipping soft pretzelspigs in a blanket french fries and chicken fingersand even using as the cheese for nachos - its a per-fect way to enjoy stadium foods at home saysSchoels Emmi even sells a football helmet-shapedfondue pot at Emmicom that is sure to get yourguests in the zone on Sunday while they enjoy somewarm melted cheese

DESSERTWhether satisfying a gridiron sweet tooth or keep-

ing it light there are creative ways to serve football-inspired desserts

Use a tube of white icing to create laces on foot-ball-shaped treats like brownies cut into the pigskinshape cupcakes with chocolate frosting or choco-late-covered strawberries says Schoels If optingfor a healthier dessert option try cutting out awatermelon in the shape of a helmet and filling itwith fresh-cut fruit

GAMES AND ACTIVITIESPlan some activities for the pre and postgame to

make your gathering more than just a viewing partyIf the weather is still nice outside ask your guests tocome early for a quick round of touch football Oncethe game is underway create areas where kidsandor non-football fans can talk without botheringthe viewers For non-athlete guests Schoels recom-mends a tamer game that everyone can enjoy

You can make a pin the football in the goalgame she says Just tape up a paper goal postcutout to wall blindfold players and having themtry to tack paper football inside the goal area Buysmall prizes for winners like koozies gift cards andteam memorabilia to make the games more compet-itive and enjoyable for guests
