It’s been an exciting time for all of our teamsat Vertu Honda. On the 4th December ourmanagement team travelled to the Honda UKawards evening, which was held at theamazing Natural History Museum in London.With Dinosaurs and Charles Darwin lookingover the event, attended by all dealers fromacross the UK, we were proudly awardedHonda UK large dealer group of the year forthe second year running. Vertu Honda Bostonwas ranked in the top 5 dealers in the UK andto top the night off Vertu Honda also wonCorporate Business to Business dealer of the

year. All of the awards are judged on sales,service and parts performance and above allcustomer satisfaction levels within ourdealerships based on the feedback, you ourvalued customers, give when you visit forsales or service. The new 2016 Jazz has lead the way in safety inthe recent What Car? Safety Awards. It camesecond, only just behind the large SUV VolvoXC90, this is quite some feat for a supermini. TheJazz was one of only two supermini class cars togain the full 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating in2015 tests.

Honda’s new Civic Type R has scooped the hot hatch atthe 2015 Scottish Car of the Year (SCOTY) Awards. TheCivic Type R’s high revving all-new 2.0 litre VTEC TURBOengine, advanced new suspension systems and eye-catchinglooks have not gone unnoticed by the judges who were allimpressed with its performance, handling, looks and quality.

Hot on the heels of the Honda HR-V taking the 2015 What Car? ReaderAward crown, the NSX supercar is in the running to continue Honda’ssuccess for a second year in a row. Compiled by What Car? experts andvoted for by readers, the shortlist for the 2016 Reader Award features themost eagerly anticipated new models coming to the UK market in thenext twelve months.

Arriving in the UK later this year, the NSX has been specially created tobring a “new sports experience” to the supercar sector. Resulting from a

VERTU HONDA NOTTINGHAMVertu Honda Nottingham is one of the newest members of our family having joined thegroup with Derby and Stockton in January 2016. The large showroom, on Lenton Laneis easily found from the A52 ring road. Rob Fletcher will return to the site as GeneralManager, having had links there many years ago before he joined Vertu Honda in 2008.His management team will consist of Paul Hemmington-Page, in sales and LorrayneSmith in service. Nottingham is also home to our newest Motorcycle dealership onHayden Road, headed by General Manager Jamie Halliday. With a passionate team ofbikers it is the key destination for bikers in the East Midlands. With a vibrant city toserve the dealerships are set for a period of growth and expansion.

VERTU HONDA MANSFIELDVertu Honda Mansfield opened in August 2009. The opportunity in Mansfield, thelargest town in England, was clear from the outset. The large showroom allows theBranch Manager, Richard Jones, the ability to showcase not only every car in the Hondarange but often multiple examples of the same model. There really is no better place toview a new Honda. Robert Taylor, Sales Manager, strengthens the management teamalong with Service Manager, Adam Wright.

VERTU HONDA DONCASTERVertu Honda Doncaster has made quite an impact on the town since it opened inAugust 2012. The dealership is located on the busy Thorne Road. Kevin Orridge hasstrong sales team, helped by Chris Walker, Sales Manager, and Service Manager, GarethHumphreys. Doncaster is a thriving town, larger in size than many realise. A keensupporter of the local community the dealership supports the Doncaster Knights andDoncaster Rovers together with taking part in local events each year.

VERTU HONDA DURHAMVertu Honda Durham opened in 2004. The purpose built site is a perfect fit for theHonda franchise, offering a bright and airy showroom, good access and parking, andfinally, space for an impressive used car display.

Chris Short manages the sales team along with Danny Birkett as Service Manager. BothChris and Danny have progressed with the franchise Chris as a Sales Executive,progressing to Business Manager and now Sales Manager, and Danny as an apprentice.

VERTU HONDA DERBYVertu Honda Derby has a prime location on Sir Frank Whittle Road in the city. The largesite is ideal for showcasing the Honda range and allows space for an impressive usedcar display. The recent additional to the Vertu family will undergo a period ofinvestment to help it grow alongside the Honda range. Headed by Peter WilemanGeneral Manager and supported by Simon Felstead and Jeff Rex, the dealership has animportant part to play in serving Honda owners in the East Midlands.

VERTU HONDA GRANTHAM2016 marks the twentieth anniversary of Vertu Honda Grantham cars opening in the town. The Honda range was certainly very differentthen, finding its foothold in the UK market. In its first year the dealership sold one hundred new Honda cars and fifty eight approved usedcars. How times have changed. Anyone visiting the site will be met by familiar faces, the dealership having an extremely stable team ofpassionate colleagues. Headed by General Manager Mark Goode working alongside Michael Mahon, David Green, Steve Harris and MattWebb, the dealership is in a safe pair of hands for the next twenty years. Grantham is also home to our well established bikes dealership.Jim Henfry and Malcom McDermid head their respective teams to ensure bikers in the region enjoy their time on two wheels.

VERTU HONDA NEWCASTLEThe city of Newcastle has a long association with Honda. In 2005 the franchise movedto the impressive dealership on Scotswood Road, with views over the river to the MetroCentre. In 2012 Vertu Honda took over the former Springfield Honda site. The moderndealership is home to a team of just over 35 colleagues and showcases a wide range ofnew and Approved Used Honda cars. You’ll be welcomed by a host of familiar faces,some of which have worked for Honda for over twenty years. Richie Carrigan, theGeneral Manager, oversees the whole dealership, Mark Spring as Sales Manager headsthe sales team along with Chad Ridley, Business Manager and Sean Coulson as ServiceManager. Newcastle along with Durham and Sunderland Honda are proud sponsors ofthe mighty Newcastle Eagles basketball team, supplying a fleet of British built Civics tothe players.

VERTU HONDA SUNDERLANDVertu Honda Sunderland opened in 1992. The showroom has just undergone a full andextensive refurbishment in line with the latest Honda guidelines. It is home to a verystable team of colleagues who are passionate about the Honda brand. Peter Middletonoversees all operations as General Manager along with Mark Hildreth, Sales Manager,Dave Hart, Business Manager and Dave Shaw, Service Manager. Between them theyhave ensured Sunderland Honda is highly ranked in Honda’s national customersatisfaction index.

VERTU HONDA RETFORDVertu Honda Retford evolved from a very successful and longstanding Vauxhalldealership in 1997. The market town has proven to be the perfect fit with Honda forthe dealership which serves the surrounding areas of Worksop, Gainsborough and theiroutlying villages. Headed by a very stable team of Paul French and Wendy Archer, thedealership has provided high levels of customer service for many years, consistently inthe top 5 of the national Honda Customer Satisfaction Index.

VERTU HONDA BOSTONVertu Honda Boston was our first new build dealership. Opened in 2000 the dealershipquickly made its mark in the town and built a strong and loyal following to the Hondabrand. Boston, as a town, has undergone many changes and the dealership hasdeveloped alongside with a strengthening of the management team and investment inthe facilities. Branch Manager, Matthew Hodgkinson, heads the sales team with TobiLukins, they work alongside John Parrott and Kappa Jones in aftersales.

VERTU HONDA LINCOLNVertu Honda Lincoln is one of our larger dealerships located in the heart of the city. Setto undergo a significant investment over the forthcoming year it is home to the latestrange of Honda cars and a passionate dedicated team of colleagues. Chris Duggan,General Manager, leads Chris Green, Business Manager, and Jason Crookes, ServiceManager, who heads the service team working alongside Jason Tavlia, Parts Manager.A large site not only means an extensive display of new cars but also one of the bestselections of Approved Used Cars in the city.

VERTU HONDA STOCKTONThe modern purpose built showroom on Concorde Way, Preston Farm is home to apassionate team of Honda professionals, Formally Benfield Honda, Vertu HondaStockton will keep the long association of Honda in the city. Martin Boagey, MarkGorman and Craig Swainston head the management team. The change of ownershipwill see a stable team reap the rewards of some future investment to allow them tofully showcase the Honda range as it develops over the coming years.

Current models of Civic and CRV can be equipped with theDriver Assistance Safety Pack (DASP). This package includes anumber of additional safety systems including Blind SpotInformation and Cross Traffic Monitor.

The blind spot information (BSI) system is a function whichilluminates an alert indicator on door mirrors to inform thedriver when another vehicle, travelling in the same direction,in a neighbouring lane enters an area, where the driver maynot see the vehicle with their peripheral vision or mirrors.

The Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM) is a function which displaysmarkers on the multi-information display and sounds an alarmto alert the driver if another vehicle is detected approachingfrom the right or left when the vehicle is reversing. Bothsystems receive information from two radar units mountedbehind the rear bumper.

When towing with a DASP equipped vehicle, it is likely thatthe radar will detect the trailer or caravan and illuminate theBSI indicators in the mirrors. It is also highly likely that whenreversing with a trailer or caravan the CTM will notify you ofan oncoming vehicle which is in fact your trailer.

You can, of course, simply ignore these alertshowever; it is possible for the driver todeactivate the alerts, from the dashboardmenu select “customise settings “on Civicor “change settings” on CRV whilstthe vehicle is stationary. For moreinformation refer to theowner’s manual.

We are thrilled to report that a Morpethwoman has won a brand new Honda Jazz in araffle that raised more than £45,000 for StOswald’s Hospice.

The car, which was donated by Vertu Honda inNewcastle, Sunderland and Durham, was wonby Anne Ballantyne after she bought a ticketfor the hospice’s annual fundraising rafflewhen visiting her late mother at the Gosforth-based hospice.

Thanks to the thousands of people whopurchased tickets at local events, at their localVertu Honda dealership and via the summer2015 issue of The Link newsletter. Ticket saleshelped St Oswald’s Hospice surpass its initialtarget of raising £45,000 to collect £46,259,which is the most the hospice has ever raisedfrom its annual raffle.

The money raised is more than enough to paythe salary of a full time senior nurse for anentire year, and goes some of the way towardsthe £7 million that St Oswald’s needs to raiseevery year through its own fundraising in orderto continue to deliver its high quality palliativecare to adults, children and young people inthe North East.
