The University of Sassari
The University of Sassari is one of the most ancient of Italy. It was founded by AlessioFontana, a distinguished gentleman of the town of Sassari, in 1558. The official openingdates back to the month of May 1562. It was firstly run by the Jesuits. On 9 February1617 Philip III conceded the statute of royal university to the Jesuit college.

-Language of instruction: Italian (but some degree courses may provide also lessons in English).-- Department of Law offers some bilingual courses Italian/English (Criminology, Law of the sea, Air Law, Economics) as well as a Legal English course given in English.
- Free Intensive Italian Language and Culture courses are offered to incoming students by the University Language Center (CLA).
-CILS Certification (certificate of Italian as a foreign language). The certification officially recognizes the proficiency and communicative competence of the Italianlanguage as L2. From 2013 the University of Sassari, in cooperation with the Language Centre (CLA) andUNISSTRAL (University School of Italian Language and culture for foreigners in Alghero), has signed anAgreement with the University for Foreigners of Siena (Università per Stranieri di Siena) to issue the CILScertification.

The Department of Law
The history of the Department dates back of May 1562, when the first Law lessonswere held at the Jesuit college. Many important personalities of the Italian political life graduated in Law at the University of Sassari

The Department of Law actively promotes international mobility flows through mobility programmes aimed at students, teaching staff, researchers, and administrative and service staff.
