HOLY NAME NEWS

“A COMEDY WITH GOD, GAMES, AND GOOFY PRIZES!”

The Holy Name will be presenting a play entitled “Bible Bingo” in our school auditorium on October 21st at 6:30 pm. This is a new interactive play writ-ten by Vicki Quade, author of “Late Night Cate-chism”. The premise of the play is as follows: The Archdio-cese's new bingo department needs to raise money for the parish. That's where you come in: Get ready to play bingo for a variety of wacky prizes. Along the way, you'll be drawn into conversation about everything from Adam and Eve to modern sins. Just be careful: You might laugh so hard you forget to yell "bingo". Tickets are $30 and are available at the rectory or from Phil Whitehouse. Food and refreshments will be availa-ble during the intermission.

will hold their annual Bake Sale after all Masses this weekend in the lower hall. The Bake Sale will fea-ture a variety of home-baked cakes, cookies and pas-tries, including our world-famous Krusczyki, baked fresh right in our own St. Barbara kitchen. There will also be two raffle tables ― one for adults and another for children. Be sure to stop by and pick up some goodies to enjoy.

OCTOBER ATTENDANCE COUNT

During the month of October, all churches in the Archdiocese count the Mass attendance, which is then reported to the Archdiocese. This count is very important because it can determine the fate of a par-ticular church. Please remember to come to church with your families.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK:

Dear Brothers and Sisters, In today’s Gospel, we hear that many are called, but few our chosen. My brothers and sisters, we are all called to live holy lives. We are all called to follow the path to sanctity so that we may one day participate in the Heavenly Banquet for all eternity.

However, we should ask ourselves: “Am I responding to God’s invitation? Am I responding to His call?” God Himself invites us to the Feast. Jesus Christ invites us to this Sunday’s Mass, where we have the opportunity to participate in Heaven. But do we accept this invitation? Do we really participate in the Mass with all of our being? Fr. Arthur Marat

CAPS MEETING The 9th District CAPS meeting was held in our school hall on Tuesday, October 10th. The meeting brought out many discussions regarding the shoot-ings in the Bridgeport neighborhood over the past three weeks. Also, a great topic of interest was the possible placement of a cell tower at 2601 S. Archer Avenue. Pictured below are Maggie Finucane: Beat Facilitator, Mark Higgins: Ward Office Representa-tive, and Jim McAndrew, CAPS Coordinator.

Spanish Class Is Off To A Great Start!

Spanish class is off to a great start! Kindergarten and First Grade are learning their numbers, how to count in Spanish and parts of speech. Second grade is learning their numbers up to 40, and when to use “tú" & “usted”. Third and Fourth grade are focusing on masculine and feminine nouns and action words. Fifth and Sixth Grade are learning about the days of the week, the months and the seasons. Seventh and Eighth grade are focusing on how to conjugate infinitives in present, past and future tenses. Students used Duolingo to supplement their classroom lessons. Last week, they had fun playing "Loteria" to introduce new Spanish words and to under-stand masculine (el) and feminine (la) articles!
