Mission at Trinity
Habitat for Humanity is planning to build a new
home in Bridgeport this year. As part of our
community outreach, we would like to be a part of
this build. To participate, we will need volunteers
to work on at least two separate occasions on the
worksite as well as raise $2500 to be building
partners. If you are interested in donating your
time and/or your dollars, please speak with or
email Lynn Chialastri
([email protected]) for additional
information.
Please join us Saturday, April 21st for a Meet and Greet with the Pastoral Candidate from 3:00-5:00 in
the original sanctuary. It will be a time to mingle, munch and welcome our candidate. From 3:30-4:00
there will be a short presentation and a brief question period. We encourage everyone to attend.
On Sunday, April 22nd at 10:00 our candidate will preach and preside at worship. Immediately
following, a congregational meeting will be called to order. There will be a short Q & A time with
Council and the Call Committee to answer questions you may have regarding the candidate or
the criteria used to call the candidate. A vote will then take place whether to accept the candidate as our
new senior pastor. Please attend, everyone's vote is important. This is the next step in Trinity's future!

Surprise!
Nina Wason, Christian Education Director
Sometimes, when I am telling the resurrection story at chapel for the Trinity Country Nursery
School children, I open up a carton of eggs, choose one and toss it up and down in my hand while I am
talking. There’s an initial patter about how fragile eggs are, and how careful I need to be and how you
must not try this at home, but eventually I get to Easter.
The story is pretty sanitized, I admit: the children hear
that Jesus had died, and his friends were very sad, but
then – surprise! - one morning Jesus is alive again!
And when I say, “Surprise!” I catch the egg by
squashing it between both my hands and….there is an
explosion of confetti, not raw egg, because I had previously blown out the eggy innards, dried out the
shell and then filled it with glittery paper bits. Easter, I tell them, is all about God’s Big Surprise.
Meeting with the unexpected is a bit of a theme in this Sunday’s Scriptures. In the gospel Peter
and friends have been out fishing all night and caught exactly zero fish. Some non-fishing guy on the
beach calls out to them, just as they are hauling in to shore, “ Toss the net out on the other side of the
boat!” When they do (tiredly, grudgingly) the net is suddenly, shockingly, filled with fish (!) and the guy
on the shore turns out to be the risen Jesus (!!!). In his astonishment, Peter jumps out of the boat and
swims to meet him.
In the reading from Acts – taking places some months later - Peter and John are the conduits for
healing a severely disabled man. Once begging for his daily bread, the man was suddenly able to jump
and dance and sing praise to God, which attracted quite a crowd of astonished onlookers. Peter wonders
why they are so surprised. “What are you staring at? What’s the big deal? Isn’t God present and able?
What’s surprising about God stepping in and healing?”
This is the Easter church: Surprised by the places and times Jesus breaks in to our lives and our
life together. And then surprising the world around us as we allow God to work miracles through us. Let
the confetti fly.
Just a reminder to wear your nametags on Sundays. Next Sunday the pastoral
candidate will be preaching & presiding. This will help them especially during
communion so they can commune you by name.
