The Tree to Table Benefit took place on Tuesday, October 25 at the OKC Farmer’s
Market in Oklahoma City. Eleven dishes that highlighted ingredients from trees, like
chestnuts, apples or chocolate, were created for our guests and judges. Dave Cathey, Marc Dunham and Kurt Fleischfresser
selected the Best Sweet and Best Savory Dish, and Tree to Table Champion. Mark and Mari Medley of Medley Equipment
Company sponsored cash prizes and trophies for the chefs.
Competitors included Barbara Mock of Kam’s Kookery, Kevin Lee of Vast, Josh Partain of Rococo, Jonathan Groth of Slaugh-
ter’s Hall, Dustin Dunaway of C2 Catering, Ryan Parrott of Picasso Café and Teresa Walters of Running Wild Catering.
The Best Savory Dish was awarded to Kevin Lee of Vast for a roasted chestnut-filled tamale with avocado sauce. Kevin Lee
also won Best Sweet Dish for a coconut pistachio pudding. The Fan Favorite dish was a citrus civeche served by C2 Catering.
The Tree to Table Champion is Kevin Lee of Vast.
The event raised enough money for 75 trees, which will provide more 2,000 pounds of
food annually to organizations that feed the hungry. Trees will also be planted as part of
the Tornado Re-Leaf effort.

2016 Tree Grants
The results from this year’s application period for the Tree Bank’s 2016 tree grant programs indicate that the interest in tree planting hasn’t diminished despite recent droughts and persistent economic challenges. By the August 31 deadline, 41 communities, agencies and organizations had re-quested 4,908 trees for planting in parks, around playgrounds, in orchards and in neighborhoods across the state. In September, the Board of Directors allocated 60 trees to establish a fruit tree orchard in Tulsa; 150 trees to five communities for Ice Storm and Fire Releaf; eight trees to two communities under the Shade Trees on Playgrounds (STOP) project; and 750 trees to six-teen communities in our Great Trees Giveaway. The Tree Bank continues to seek major sponsorships for these programs to replace the incredibly effec-tive and popular program funded by the Apache Petroleum Foundation that allowed the Tree Bank to distribute as many as 10,000 free trees annually. To help us fulfill our primary mission of planting trees in cooperation with our partners in Oklahoma, the Tree Bank needs your help—join us today!
