I never know what to expect during a Marvelous Monday. One of your favorite preachers and one of my former students, Clint Pressley, preached last night. As usual, Clint did an excellent job, but he did surprise me. He gave me a “hammer.”
Clint has made a habit of giving a chrome platted sledgehammer to men on his staff who leave to pastor a church. Inscribed on the handle are the words of Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not my word like fire, declares the LORD, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?” Don’t be alarmed, but the sledgehammer is now at the front of my desk as a reminder of the power of mentoring, but more importantly as a reminder of the power of preaching.
We have one Marvelous Monday remaining. Bill Dye, pastor of North Monroe Baptist, will be our guest preacher. I hope that you will make a point of being here. Our crowds have been excellent throughout this series, which raises an interesting question. Why do we have more folks come on Marvelous Mondays than on Super Sunday evenings? One of our secretaries asked me that, and I had no answer. When September rolls around, I want you to make a commitment to be a part of worship on Sunday evenings. Several years ago, we did a survey and the majority of the church wanted to keep Sunday evening worship.
Do you not thirst for the Word? It is taught on Wednesday evening. I spend hours preparing the banquet. Will you not make that a priority? Do you not need the Word? Scripture reminds us that we are to hunger for the Word like newborn babies. Sunday evenings are designed specifically to cover those areas we struggle with as believers. This fall, the focus will be on Ghost Hunters because we are all haunted by something.
And I am haunted by this question: Are we experiencing intentional transformation if we are intentionally bypassing opportunities to grow from the Word?
Dr. Rick
God’s mission for Temple Baptist Church is to love Him fully and follow Him faithfully.

What a joy it was on Sunday to see our children break ground on The Journey Place. Thank you to everyone who participated and those who worked so hard to make this groundbreaking possible. A big thank you to Edna Smith for designing our target. It is such an exciting time as we watch construction begin on The Journey Place. Our preschoolers were sad to see the playground gone, but we have talked about how fun it will be when we have an indoor and an outdoor area! I am so thankful that we were able to share our old equipment with another church. A crew from Grace Community Church in Jonesboro came and removed most of the big pieces to use at their church. Jake Folden, who is their Youth Minister, spearheaded these efforts. He told me that the lady that is in charge of their children had been praying for some playground equipment. God is so good and it is so wonderful when we can help another body of believers as they reach out to their community!
As you read this, we will be wrapping up a week at Centri-Kid Camp in Talladega, Alabama. Forty six 4th-6th graders and adults left on Monday for a terrific week of Bible Study and fun. Thank you to Donald Colvin, Dale Oden, Ben Black, Denise Stinson, Jessica Williams, and Lauren Hearn for sharing this week with us!
Music and Missions will begin on Wednesday, August 31. I am looking for leaders to help with these wonderful programs. We will train you and give you all the help you need to share with our children. Please prayerfully consider being a part of our children's Wednesday night activities.
Our next Baby Dedication will be on Sunday, September 25. Packets will be mailed next week. If you do not receive one or would like more information, please give me a call.
We collected 1105 toothbrushes and toothpaste packets for Nicaragua. In addition we have almost 500 more toothbrushes. Last year we sent 1000, so we collected 605 more toothbrushes than last year! Thank you so much for your support of this mission effort.

It is August already! School will begin, football practice begins, and it is essentially the start of a new year. Each
August, we prepare our leadership for the next core value emphasis which will begin in January. Our annual
Leadership Training will be on Monday, August 29, at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We invite our deacons,
Sunday School leadership, committee chairpersons, and other church leaders to participate in an evening of vision
casting and preparation for “Compassionate Servanthood.” We will begin with a meal which will be followed by a
presentation by Dr. Rick. After that we will conclude the evening with Sunday School leadership training. It is
always an informative night.
August also brings about a big increase in Sunday attendance. Because of the construction, the back parking lot
will be used much more. Remember that it can only be accessed from the west side of the building. You may want
to drop off your family under the portico by the Family Life Center, and then park in the back parking lot. Thank
you for your understanding and patience. It will be for only one year.
Our Wednesday Family Night Supper will take its annual break until August 31. This gives Glenda and all her
wonderful volunteers a break after Marvelous Mondays, as well as a time for the annual Kitchen Clean-Up. Thank
you, Glenda and kitchen crew, for such a wonderful job all year long!
