Humor Saves“Three

Fugitives

On the day that Nick Noltegets out of prison for bankrobbery, he is taken hostageby Martin Short. Short, inneed of money to send hismute daughter to school, messes up even the bankrobbery. After shooting intothe ceiling, he takes Noltehostage. Later, after shootingNolte Short takes him to aveterinarian. Nolte seems tohave the touch with Short’sdaughter, and soon she beginsto talk.

Eventually they decide toescape to Canada. Thisproves to be one of thefunniest parts of the movie.Short dresses like a lady andthey cut his daughter’s hairshort enough so she appearsto be a boy. Short concocts astory about his ownpregnancy when they reachthe check through station atthe border. The police thenrush him to a hospital and ashe is getting out of the car hestuffs a blue bear up hisdress. As they take him offthe stretcher, the bear fallsout which led to a round ofapplause and laughter fromthe audience.

The major event of themovie comes when Nolte isfinally going to leave the triofor a new way of life. Shortthen attempts another bankrobbery in Canada.

The movie is great. Thefunny ending makes up for theslow start. If you’re feelingdown. and out, grab a friendand go to see “ThreeFugitives.” I assure you! you’lllaugh a lot. I give this movieTHREE STARS.

“TheElephant

Man comesalive on

stage!a review

John Merrick, a.k.a. TheElephant Man, led a mostunfortunate life because of hisfreakish appearance. Not onlywas he ridiculed, he was oftenexploited. Later in life he wastaken in by Frederick Trevesand finally found peace.

The Junior High SchoolDrama Department recentlyput this story on stage. Withboth junior high and highschool studentsq the life andtimes of John Merrick came tolife. John was portrayed byCorey Moore; he did anexcellent job filling this difficultand demanding role. In fact, his realistic deformities madehim believable to the audience.I especially liked the Pinheads. They successfully acted outtheir roles as freaks of nature.

The funniest part of theplay was when the nurse, MissSandwich (portrayed byWendy Walker), screamedand went nuts when she firstsaw John. Everyone did afine job, especially Mr.Snyder who directed theshow. Congratulations castand crew of “The ElephantMan” for a memorableperformance’

Teen Suicide In Memory 14Teens who consider

suicide as a way out are inserious emotional trouble. They are confused andhurting. Wrongly, they feelthere is no other way to solvetheir immediate problems.

What teens sometimesforget is that suicide is a verypermanent solution to a verytemporary problem,” says Dr.Sally. Teens sometimes feelas though their sadness andhurt will go on forever, whileadults often see that thingswill get better after havingexperienced lifes problems.

Teen suicide hurts manypeople. Dr. Sally added thatabout “35-40% of students inpublic school classes havebeen affected by the suicideof a friend or acquaintance.”

Some warning signs ofsomeone who may commitsuicide are direct verbal cluesand/or statements, suddenchanges in behavior, givingaway of valued possessions, drinking or taking drugs, andprevious attempts.

If you suspect that afriend may be consideringsuicide, the first and mostimportant thing for you to dois to tell someone. Do notkeep it a secret. lt’s hard tobetray a friend who hasasked you to keep what he orshe has told you a secret, butwhen your friends life may beat stake, you MUST involve anadult immediately.

Young people who choosesuicide see no easing of theirpain in the future. If we canoffer them hope, they maychoose to live instead of todie. So, if you’re thinking ofsuicide or have questions, there are people who wouldbe happy to help. Friends, parents, teachers, and hotlinesare always there for you.

Karen Ackerman was avisible member of HarrisonHigh School. She was amember of the Varsity Tennisteam for three years, Drillteam for two years, and wasinvolved in Spanish Club andArt Club. Even though sheparticipated in after schoolactivities and worked, she stillfound time to be with thepeople most dear to her, herfrIends. In fact, she spent herlast night laughing, joking, dancing, and having a greattime with her friends. Even asI write this and remember, theshock and pain are still there.Even though I haven’t yetcompletely accepted herdeath, I can see how it hasaffected my outlook onlife--and death. I just hopethat Karen didn’t die in vain, and that now we all will bemore willing to recognize andhelp others who need our helpand caring. We will neverforget Karen, for her memorywill be with us always.

Harrrison Plays theBengals

Last weekend the Harrison football teamplayed at Riverfront Stadium, against theCincinnati Bengals. The game was 10-7,Bengals, at halftime. The final score being 19-14,Bengals. It was the best game I had ever seen. The only thing that stopped Harrison was theawesome Bengals’ Defense. The stadium waspacked with screaming Harrison fans, it wasunbelievable. The Bengal’s Icky Woods, wasthe only man able to get past our defense. TheBengals ended up kicking 4 field goals in thegame. Harrison’s own Jeff Bond wasresponsible for the first touchdown forHarrison, which came late in the secondquarter. The second touchdown was made byNate Adams, who carried the ball for 35 yardsto the endzone, and 110 yards in the entiregame. It was the first game in history everplayed between a high school football team andan NFL team. It’s not that the Bengals are’ntany good; how could they expext to beatHarrison by a large margin. After all they areregional champions.
