A Note from Tara "

Hi! Welcome to the second issue of my magazine! If you read the introductory issue, you will have noticed that the name of the magazine has changed, this is because of some changes within my business…. "I have recently taken on a big and

exciting new project as well as another smaller (but just as exciting) project, alongside running a business and doing three courses as well as some extra stuff I'm doing such as my magazine, it's not leaving me with much free time, as well as putting me behind with certain things I love, such as working with bloggers and blogging myself! so for the next 6-12 months TheTaraEmporium will be 'just' TarasTalons again! "This is because TarasTalons is obviously my biggest passion as I love nail polish and creating it is what I enjoy most and I have a huge backlog of 'Emporium' products to put in my shops due to a lack of time to photograph and list them! "My social media etc has changed back to TarasTalons for now but as usual you can still visit www.thetaraemporium.co.uk as well as www.tarastalons.co.uk "Also look out for lots of new polishy products coming soon, including new subscriptions and boxes! "Tara x """"""""Page 3

And the winner is…. "Well actually, that should be the winners are…! I held a competition for TarasTalons first birthday in April and the entrants had to send me a picture/blog/video of their TarasTalons stash/mani etc. There were 12 prizes available so the 12 winners would get a Talon Treasure Trove and their winning picture in this issue of my magazine! "I’d just like to thank everyone again who entered the competition, the number and standard of the entries completely overwhelmed me and made the celebration so much more special for me. "It was so difficult for Shaun to choose the winners, though I will be holding more competitions like this so I’ll have to put him through it all again! "So, here are the winning entries…. Please go and follow these amazing Instagrammers and bloggers who put so much talent and effort into their entries and all the manis they do! """""""""""""""""Page 4

Taras' top brand "

My current favourite brand is W7, I have used some of their products over the years such as polishes and eyeshadow (their naked nudes palette is amazing!) and have always loved everything I’ve used, so when they asked me to review some products on www.tarastalons.blogspot.co.uk and I loved everything, I knew I had to show off some of their fab products! "First I’ll show you the foundation, concealer and powder I used.

"The HD foundation was my absolute favourite product, it was so soft and smooth like velvet, it blended in really well and it lasted all day! Page 11

Page 12: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

These are the foundations and concealers on my hand, so you can see how great the textures are, they’re so creamy it makes them really easy to apply and blend it.

""""""""""Page 12

Page 13: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

I then used the powders on my hand over the foundations and concealer to see how well they blended in and if the textures were as fab as the liquid products. I used the catwalk complexion powder over the concealer, puff perfection over the HD foundation and the W7 one over sheer colour.

"The powders covered the foundation really well and blended in with each other quickly. I don’t usually wear powder as I feel they ‘settle’ too much on me and I look overly made up, but the powders from W7, especially the puff perfection one, were very light and just ‘set’ the foundation perfectly. """Page 13

Page 14: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

The next W7 products I have to show you are some of their fab nail polishes, nail art kits and glitters! "This pink glitter is in a clear base so you can build it up to an opaque finish in three layers like I have here. You can also wear one coat over other colours to give them a sparkly finish!

Page 14

Page 15: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

This blue polish is a blue base with blue glitters, so pretty to wear alone but perfect for water/ocean manis now the weather is warmer and nail art is Summer themed!

Page 15

Page 16: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

I have used three coats of the W7 polish and a mermaid nail charm from www.she-sells-seashells.co.uk for this mani!

Page 16

Page 17: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

For these next manis, I used W7’s glitter shakers, I thought they would be super messy, but they weren’t and the effect is amazing! So sparkly and pretty! Working one nail at a time (and over a sheet of paper!), I painted on base coat and then sprinkled glitter over my nail. I waited for it to dry for around 30 seconds and then used a fan brush to brush off any excess glitter. "The picture on the left is without topcoat and the picture on the left is with topcoat. I do prefer it with topcoat because i love a glossy finish, but as you can see, it is slightly sparklier without topcoat. Next time, I may topcoat the mani but leave the accent finger textured and more sparkly!

""""Page 17

Page 18: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

This glitter is my absolute favourite! It’s a pretty light pink but it has a gorgeous iridescence and reflective quality too!

Tara chats with…. "This month I chatted to one of my favourite bloggers Claire from Claire with the camera! "

Hi Claire! Tell us a bit about you…. "I love nail polish, cosmetics and photography. I live with my husband and two very cute cats.  My husband loves helping me pick out nail polishes and nail art, both of us also enjoy motorcycles and going for rides on our Harley Davidson!   "I started blogging in February 2013.  Blogging quickly became something of a

routine, and it’s been so enjoyable discovering new products, brands and people.  It’s also made me more crafty, I have recently started making my own nail polish jewellery, which I hope to start selling soon.

Page 19

Page 20: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

Why did you start your blog? "My blog really started out as a hobby to see me through a difficult time with my health, it was something I could focus my mind on.  I never really expected anyone to read it, but found it very therapeutic to focus on writing and taking photos about things I loved.  My nail polish jewellery was inspired by some products I’d seen elsewhere, I thought it was a great way of wearing polish but without worrying it would chip or have to be removed!  Friends have received some of the jewellery as gifts and encouraged me to start selling pieces, so keep an eye out on my blog for further details about that! "How did you choose the name of your blog? "I’ve always loved taking photos, and over the last few years it has become very rare that I even leave the house without a camera.  My family and friends all knew this, and quite often joked about it, saying ‘Oh look, Claire’s got that camera out again!’.  When I started my blog I wasn’t really sure where it was going to go, but I knew whatever I blogged about I’d love taking photos for it.  With all this it seemed natural to call it ‘Claire with the camera’.   ""Page 20

Page 21: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

Where does your inspiration come from?   "I’ve always tried to see beauty in the little things, often light.  I love watching how light levels change throughout the day and months, light often inspires my photography.  Colours and patterns are also a great inspiration for me, originally my outlet for this was photography, but I know enjoy exploring this through nail art too.  You’ll often see lots of patterns and lines in my product photography too.  "What do you love most about blogging? "It’s always lovely when you get feedback from a reader.  I also swatched for Tara recently, which was a great honour!  The online communities that surround blogging are also wonderful, and I very much enjoy being part of these too.   "Tell us a bit about the stuff you write about! "In the past I’ve blogged about all sorts, but my blog is certainly becoming more nail polish based!  I still love writing posts that are more lifestyle based, or look at other beauty products, and I suspect as the months get warmer you will see more posts associated with travels on my motorcycle! "What is your most popular product that you blog about?  "Nail polish posts certainly get the most hits, Maybelline Forever Strong and TarasTalons reviews sit there at the top!  A post on hair turbans, surprisingly, has been very popular!   """"""""""Page 21

Page 22: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

And what is your favourite product that you blog about? "It has be to be indie nail polishes, particularly UK indies.  It’s really nice to be able to support small businesses and discover beautiful, unique products.

"What do you do when you’re not working on your blog?  "I’m an educator with a science background, so lots of people are surprised I have an arty side!  I enjoy photography, painting my nails, reading, making jewellery, crochet, knitting, and motorcycles when I’m not working or blogging. "If we want to read your amazing stuff where can we find you? "My blog is clairewiththecamera.tumblr.com, you can follow me through tumblr or bloglovin.  I am also on Facebook at www.facebook.com/clairewiththecamera, instagram as clairewiththecamera and twitter as @clairewtcamera

Taras’ nail care "Recently, I stopped wearing false nails and started to care for my natural nails in the hope they will grow nice and long and be healthy! I have been using OPI matte nail envy as a base coat, duri rejuvacote as a topcoat and lemony flutter as a cuticle balm. I have also been using various oils, cuticle removers, hand creams and a Leighton Denny crystal nail file and so far everything seems to be working! I have even had to file my nails down as they are getting two long! I will be reviewing various hand and nail care items in future issues but in this issue, I will show you the progress I have had in the last two months! ""

This is the start of my nail care journey. The day I took my false nails off! """"" """

This is one of my most recent manis! they have been filed down a couple of times in the last 8 weeks to try and get the damage out but I’m really happy with the length! """""

Page 24

Taras’ recent manis! "Every issue, I will show you some of my favourite recent manis! "This is Barry M ‘grapefruit’ with black stars from www.she-sells-seashells.co.uk

This is TarasTalons ‘Cloudy skies’ with neon star studs also from www.she-sells-seashells.co.uk

Page 25

Page 26: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

This is nails in Porchester Square with an accent of Barry M Guava. This is a really simple mani, but I love the colours together!

This is the mani I am wearing on the cover of the magazine but with some added leather effect by nails inc! This is a base of nails inc Basil Street, with an accent nail of TarasTalons gold glitter polish ‘Hook’. I then used some vinyls from www.nailsredesigned.storenvy.com and nails inc ‘Noho’ to add some more to the mani!

Page 26

Page 27: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

Tara discovers vinyls "I have a shocking confession! Until recently I hadn’t used nail vinyls! I was sent loads of different types to try by www.nailsredesigned.storenvy.com and while I was so excited to try them, I thought I’d end up with a big mess and polish on my knuckles ;) I couldn’t have been more wrong! They’re fab! They are so easy to use too! Here’s how I apply them; "Paint your nails with base coat and two-three colour coats. Ensure you leave each coat to dry completely before applying your next coat. "

""""Page 27

Page 28: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

When all the coats of polish are completely dry, work one nail at a time to apply the vinyls to your nails in whatever pattern you want.

Then paint your nails with another colour or glitter polish.

Page 28

Page 29: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

While that coat of polish is still wet, gently peel off the vinyls.

"And you’re left with a fab design! Just finish with topcoat!

Page 29

TarasTalons Thank You "One of the things that I do on a monthly basis is my TarasTalons thank you - If you know someone who is having a rough time, deserves a little treat or is absolutely lovely and deserves a 'Thank You' please tell me why! You can tell me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, through www.tarastalons.co.uk or via email at [email protected] and I will choose one person each month to send one of my polishes to! "*you do not have to give lots of private/personal details about your nominee or their circumstances, just a general idea of why they deserve to be sent a sparkly surprise *Please ensure that if I contact you to let you know your nominee has won you have their address for me to send their polish to. I can only send to a UK address *Although the polish will be chosen at random you can include their likes and dislikes/suggestions and I will do my very best to ensure they get a polish they love *You can choose whether you want me to include your name in the note to the nominee to let them know who nominated them, or if you'd like to remain anonymous *I will choose a person on the 1st of every month and contact the person who nominated the chosen person (I'm sorry I won't be able to contact everyone). Also the winner will not be announced as I'd like it to be a surprise when they receive it *I will ask that person to share a picture of their polish somewhere so I can post it on all of my social media and on my 'Tara's Thank You' page on my website *You can nominate more than one person and you can nominate the same person the following month if they aren't chosen

"""

Page 31

Page 32: The TarasTalons Edit - issue 2

TarasTalonTs "Another thing I run is TarasTalonTs. As ’TarasTalons Thank You' has been a huge success and I love being able to send someone a polish and hopefully brighten their day, so I’m trialling a new monthly 'polish present', like 'TarasTalons Thank You' it will be run throughout the whole month. "*It is called 'TarasTalonTs' and gives you an opportunity to win a TarasTalons polish. Similar to my #tarastalonsisone competition you need to use your TarasTalons polish is some way and send me a photo/video/blog link etc via social media or email *It can be a swatch picture, stash picture, it can be nail art, blog post etc, it can even be funny or artistic etc in some way *You can enter as many times as you like and you can reuse any entries that don't win in other months *Please hashtag TarasTalonts, include it in the email subject, or include in the blog post that it is a TarasTalonTs entry, so I know to count it in the submissions *The winner will be chosen and announced on the 1st of every month *The winner will receive a TarasTalons polish *The polish will be chosen at random although if you have a preference of polish, colour, effect etc I will see what I can do ;) *UK only """""""""""""Page 32
