The Sword of the Spirit and the Spear of Man TAKING OFF WITH THE JUSTS Vol. 4 - October 2019 Patrick & Sonya Just Take a look at the banner photo above. Have you wondered who these people are and what theyre doing? These are the Yali, a people living deep in the mountains of Papua. And theyre celebrating. Sixty years ago, the Yali people were locked in an endless cycle of bloodshed and hopelessness. Raids of revenge and cannibalism were a part of normal life. They sought to gain power by eating the flesh of their enemies. Religiously animistic and cut off from the rest of the world, they experienced no utopia, but rather a life of dread in fear of the spirits they believed to be in control of their world. So was life by the spear of man. And then came the Sword of the Spirit (Eph 6.17). In obedience to Christs call on their lives, missionaries from multiple organizations came, risking everything to share Gods Word with the Yali people. Some indeed gave the ultimate sacrifice (I highly recommend reading Lords of the Earth by Don Richardson). MAF was privileged to play a part in those high risk early days, conducting survey flights and serving as a lifeline. And now we celebrate with the Yali people as they have just received (in 2018) the entire Bible in their own mother tongue—thats the cause for commotion in the picture above and the reverent prayer captured left. Praise the Lord!! I encourage you to go online and check out MAFs 3-minute video on this (just search for MAF Yali Bible, and youll find it on youtube and vimeo). Unfortunately the enemy knows his time is short (Rev. 12.12), and all is not well for the diverse peoples of Papua, Indonesia. Please pray for them as renewed racial tensions have led to unrest in the region with a focal point less than 50 miles west of our friends in the photo above. MAF has evacuated its families from Wamena in Papua, along with some other missionaries. MAF remains on standby to evacuate others if requested. ...making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1.4b-6 Dont stop here—theres a 2nd page!

TAKING OFF WITH THE JUSTS Vol. 4 - October 2019 Patrick & Sonya Just

Take a look at the banner photo above. Have you wondered who these people are and what they’re doing? These are the Yali, a people living deep in the mountains of Papua. And they’re celebrating.

In obedience to Christ’s call on their lives, missionaries from multiple organizations came, risking everything to share God’s Word with the Yali people. Some indeed gave the ultimate sacrifice (I highly recommend reading Lords of the Earth by Don Richardson).

MAF was privileged to play a part in those high risk early days, conducting survey flights and serving as a lifeline. And now we celebrate with the Yali people as they have just received (in 2018) the entire Bible in their own mother tongue—that’s the cause for commotion in the picture above and the reverent prayer captured left. Praise the Lord!! I encourage you to go online and check out MAF’s 3-minute video on this (just search for “MAF Yali Bible,” and you’ll find it on youtube and vimeo).

We’d love to hear from you! 208-310-6763 (Patrick’s cell) [email protected] [email protected]

Thank you so much to all our prayer and financial partners! We continue to be awestruck and humbled as we experience God’s provision. Please pray with us that we will reach 100% of our monthly target this fall and be approved for final training in the spring. (By the way, recurring gifts will go towards our monthly support target while special gifts will be used towards the purchase of a family vehicle once we are in country.) Please, feel free to call or email if you have any questions, or just to catch up!!!

We had a good trip to the Moscow/Pullman area. A special thanks to all who made possible the presentation at the Nuart Theatre in Moscow, Idaho. God used that event in a big way to connect us with new supporters.

The kids are thriving in the adventure of traveling and meeting new friends. We’re now looking forward to a couple months here in Redding, CA, as we

1) Continue to seek out new individuals and churches to partner with us, and

2) Sort through all our belongings, pack our shipping crates, and sell everything else!

We still need $1,500 in monthly commitments. We would love to have you join our team of ministry partners. Please pray about what part you can play in this work.

How to give:

100% Outgoing!!!

82% Monthly

MAF staff raise support for a pooled fund out of which MAF covers salary, housing, benefits, and staff-related expenses. MAF exercises discretion over the use of staff support to carry out its work and care for its staff.

Vehicle Fund 20% of $26,000

P.S. While our “new” van is older than the old one, it has proven its true grit, making it back from Idaho and up past the mountains to meet with our new friends in Susanville (where we were trying to go last time when our van died).
