What a wonderful 4 days -8 show Gateway national. New Em-

erald Grand Champion Fissan's Sign O"The Times aka Paisley

was awarded 3 Award of Merits and 3 Best of Breed wins with

a Group 3, Group 4 and a Group 1 placement. She reminds

me a lot of our foundation Maggie Too. She is a 5th generation

Fissan on her dam side and her sire goes back to our first

foundation breedings as well. So proud of this girl. Thank you

to Judges Matthew Proctor, Stan Matsumoto , Carianna Glen,

Jeanne R Heger Tina Camp and Heidi Scheff for recognizing

this girl out of outstanding competition. I also could not be

more proud of Kortney. Prior and Miles - Ch Fissan's Man in

Black. 2 Reserve Champion placements, 2 Champion place-

ments, 3 best juniors and I believe 3 more Junior placements.

Kortney is a 4Her that I Angel Nassif and Zoe Nassif have

mentored for 8 years. The boy she bred Ch Fissan's Man in

Black aka Miles is also 5th generation Fissan on sire and 4th

generation on dam. His sire Buster and Paisley's Dam Bella

are littermates.

And finally thank you to all of the eskie family who were so

supportive. You guys are what I love about UKC, the warm

hugs and congratulations between all after everyone's wins, is

so wonderful. Looking

forward to next national

in Minnesota 2020!

President Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone is staying safe! As of

right now the Premier is still a go in

August. I hope many of you are able to

travel to the show. Our 2020 National

will be held in Minnesota! It is a beauti-

ful state, and Club members along with

the Exec Committee are working hard to see that the show is a

huge success. If you can only make one show the remainder of

the year, make it your National! You will see old and new

friends, lots of Eskies, and a great auction that always has

some very sought after items. There is usually a banquet or

barbecue, and this year we are planning a seminar on the Es-

kie, it will be free to anyone that is interested. Of course, not to

mention, there is the National show, you will see some very

nice dogs!! We will also have a number of non licensed classes

that you can enter. we also have the annual General Member-

ship Meeting and the Board of Directors meeting. Look for

more information elsewhere in this issue. I am looking forward

to seeing everyone there!! If you have any items that you would

like to put on the General Membership Meeting, or the Board of

Directors meeting, please contact our Secretary, Renee'.

Stay Safe!!

Diana Allen, President

Vice-President Crazy times—too busy to write—see

you at Nationals...with any luck!

Heidi Scheff, Vice President

Secretary What a year so far. 2020 has had

many excitements across the

county. Remember as we move into

the remainder of the year, there will

be changes at your local dog

show. Please follow the rules/regulations that will be en-

forced. It's not easy for the clubs to move forward to host

these shows without the help of you, as exhibitors. Check out

the UKC website as to what the clubs are responsible to do to

provide a safe/healthy show site. Make sure you mark the cal-

endar for the 2020 Nationals being held at the Olmsted County

Fairgrounds in Rochester, MN.

Stay safe and health.

Grooming Again! Tips to Pass On:

When I’m getting ready for a show, my

grooming starts with trimming nails. Always

make sure your eskie’s nails are as short as

possible. Then I trim the hair on the bottom

of the paws so that no hair will interfere with their gait. You can

trim the hair around the feet and the back of the hocks so that

they look neat, but no other trimming of hair on the eskie is

allowed, ever!

Next, I check the teeth; however, brushing teeth, or whatever

method you use, is a daily activity.

So that I don’t have matting, I comb and blow out the coat be-

fore I bathe. If your eskie is blowing coat, it is often helpful to

continue combing while you shampoo. Make sure all shampoo

and other products are thoroughly rinsed from your eskie’s

coat. The eskie must be shown natural, without any product in

or added to the coat.

After the bath, before and while you are drying, the most impor-

tant thing is to make sure mats do not form. Also, make sure

you remove all mats you find. Continue combing until the coat

is dry and there are no more mats.

At the show, make sure your eskie is clean. You can use a self

-rinse product but make sure you towel it all off. If you like, you

can use your dryer to fluff up the coat. Line combing or line

brushing is the finishing touch, not any sprays.

When 2020 started everything was going well. Our AKC Non-

Sporting Club had our show in January and it was a huge suc-

cess. I got to judge for Nolan River Kennel Club and then

again for Guadalupe Valley Kennel Club in Austin. My friends

also gave me a wonderful birthday.

The second weekend of March, the Northeast Texas American

Eskimo Dog Association had our shows in Addison, Texas.

We had the best entry ever and a successful raffle.

Then the Thursday after the show, the virus happened. Every-

thing closed, except essential businesses, and, more impor-

tantly to me, dog shows cancelled. At first I think we all

thought it would come to an end in a month or so. This was

not to be. After one show I was to steward cancelled, the two

weekends I was supposed to judge in April cancelled, and the

show I was supposed to judge In May cancelled.

Here we are in mid-June

and dog shows are just

starting to resume. I am not

a depressive kind of person,

and except for a litter of

pups there was little joy in

my life.

Then, on May 27th disaster

struck. Maya became ill. Despite everything, we had to let her

go. She was 15 and had a wonderful life, but she was Sultan’s

littermate and very special to us. She was Rick’s favorite. Two

weeks past with little change except for the pups growing and

corresponding with their prospective new owners. Then, on

June 11th, disaster struck again. Buster left us in his sleep.

Yes, he was 17 and he too had a wonderful life. He was a kind

gentle soul and we miss him dearly.

So, to say I want a redo for 2020 is an understatement. Being

retired has not helped. We have taken the time to get some

things done around the house, but I miss my dog show family

and I miss the shows. I have an 8 month old puppy to show

whenever we are able to and I am looking forward to that.

I know there are plenty of people worse off than we are.

Things are starting to return to a kind of normal here in Texas.

I can only hope it will do so everywhere, and we can resume

showing our wonderful dogs and spending time with our dog

show family.

Then just when I needed it, this made my day when I hear from

one of my eskie homes:

“We went through a rough patch and I tend to withdraw. Peppermint

has been such an awesome addition to our family. He is such a sweet

boy and so goofy at times. He has helped Cameryn put tremendously

cause she always has a happy and willing playmate - which has been

wonderful during this covid isolation. Anyway, hope all is well on your

end and I'll keep up with

sending you pics.

Thanks so much for our

Sweet P!”

Hope to see every-

one at our National in October in Rochester, Minnesota, and I

hope the rest of 2020 gets better and better!

Debbie Mitchell, Corresponding Secretary

Publicity Director 2020 is crazy! (there said it, feel better now) And we get to

add one more taboo topic - masks. ha

We can’t change yesterday, or worry about tomorrow, but we

can have hope for our future. That’s what’s filling my life right

now. So looking forward to many “first time I ever, ever ...”

• Have a dog that ‘will be’ a Grand Champion, and that I

showed. (fingers crossed)

• First time to attend the UKC Premier in August.

• First time to start training Agility. Classes start in Septem-

ber!

• First time to attend our National in October. So looking

forward to meeting many of you for the first time too.

I feel a bit silly saying this out loud, but

I’m also a teary eyed seeing my little girl

listed on the UKC Top Ten. I know it’s

only because all the super awesome big

time dogs didn’t get a chance to show

and travel from one side of the country

to the other. But N.. I’m Somebody

Now! I’m Somebody Now! Lol

Never doubt what is possible. In life. (career, tennis, skiing,

biking, triathlon, adding Dog Showing!)

Take care of yourself and your furry family!

Guidelines for Clubs Hosting the NAEDA Shows These are some things, we, the Executive Board, would like the

National show host club to consider when they are making plans

for the National Show. We have put together these guidelines to

assist your club when planning the show.

1. SHOW SITE - Need a large enough area to have a Conforma-

tion ring plus grooming area.

2. Have a HOST HOTEL or MOTEL with a block of rooms (25-35

rooms, you can always back off the numbers later).

3. Banquet room and meeting place (room needs to be available

until 12- Midnight). A Banquet is not required - it is at the decision

of the host club if they want to host a banquet. The above three

items should be within the same building if possible.

4. The banquet and meeting room should have a table set at the

front for the Officers (dinner and meeting).

5. Need ring equipment at ring side for Conformation (the National

can not haul all necessary show equipment to each show site).

6. Stewards are needed for conformation.

7. Supplies at both rings - paper towels, cleaning solution, clip

boards, pens and scratch pads. It would be great if an easel were

available to post classes and exhibitors numbers. 8. If National

judges are flying in, the host club needs to pick them up and get

them to the hotel if a shuttle is not available ..

9. page ad in conjunction with NAEDA. Be sure hotel information

is in the ad as to reservations. Work with the National Secretary.

10. List the airport in the area for those flying in and what service

is available.

11. The National Treasurer needs a copy of the Host Club's con-

tract for the show site (Contract should be in the Host Club's

name) showing the amount the National owes. National pays up

to $750.00 of the cost of the showsite for the day of the National

show. 12. Contact Person or whoever is in charge should work

with the National Vice President (NAEDA Vice President is the

National Show Chairman)

Note from Publisher: Normally the points aren’t included, but this year they seemed important to remember because there are so few

points at this time of the year. Looking forward to retuning to a full UKC show schedule all over this great nation of ours.

GR CH DEBONAIR’S IT’S A MIRACLE

“Maya” 04/12/2005 to 05/27/2020

Maya was the product of a very careful breeding.

She was Sultan’s littermate. She was a wonderful

bitch but never really liked to show. I finished her

in the UKC to her Grand Championship. She

never had the enthusiasm that Sultan did for the

AKC, so I retired her. She produced three beauti-

ful litters and was in excellent health until her

death at age 15.

She was a lovely bitch with a beautiful tempera-

ment and one of Rick’s favorites. She moved like

a dream. I regret I never kept anything out of her.

She will be dearly missed.

“Buster” 06/30/2003 to 06/11/2020

Buster came to live with us in October of 2003. Diana brought him to me at our National in Denton,

Texas. He was a gorgeous puppy and grew up to be a beautiful male with flawless movement and a very

gentle temperament. At the time,

he was just the male I was looking

for. He had a beautiful Nordic

head and a beautiful coat. He

liked to show and finished in both

registries easily. Sadly, he never

produced a litter. It was not for

my lack of trying. We never really

knew why.

He loved everyone and all dogs so

he was an easy keeper. I cannot

thank Diana and Joe enough for

trusting me with this wonderful

dog. He died peacefully here at

home next to his favorite friends.

He will be dearly missed.
