Establishing Program GuidelinesØWhat skills do my students need in order to be as independent AS
POSSIBLE both now and in the future?
ØIs this skill functional and meaningful?
ØIs this a skill that they will encounter on a regular basis and will be able to learn, practice, and generalize?
ØIs this skill age-appropriate?
ØHow will this skill increase my student’s quality of life?
ØAm I evaluating and adjusting student programs frequently?

Research BasisØ All lesson plans use ABA format to teach skills.
Ø Instructional methodology used throughout is researched based -prompting strategies, correction procedures and reinforcement.
Ø The content is also evidence based as it was developed with the knowledge that functional life skills taught in real world contexts will not only be learned more quickly but will also generalize across settings.
Ø Ongoing data has been collected in several locations for school or school district use, some over multiple years.

Alignment with State Standards
www.SDESworks.com
Alignment with State Standards The Styer-Fitzgerald Program for Functional Academics (SFFA) helps teachers create rigorous and challenging learning opportunities for students with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities, including autism. This type of learning environment makes it possible for students to achieve ability-appropriate success in meeting relevant standards, like the Common Core State Standards or other state-developed standards. In addition, many states successfully align the SFFA goals and objectives to document levels of performance on their alternate assessments based on alternate academic achievement standards.
This data-rich program allows teachers to collect, analyze, and access data in real time to make formative instructional decisions and increase student achievement. In fact, many of our school districts report that familiarity with the structure of the Styer-Fitzgerald Program data methods spills over to other areas of instruction, including state and district mandated assessments. Districts report that utilizing the Styer-Fitzgerald Program improves data collection, decreases intimidation with data analysis, and increases effectiveness when analyzing data and making instructional adjustments.
The Styer-Fitzgerald Program for Functional Academics:
• Provides carefully crafted lessons in multiple academic and functional content areas with a direct or linked relationship to English Language Arts/Reading and Mathematics Common Core Standards.
• Provides goals and objectives that can be customized to meet the requirements of an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
• Allows students to demonstrate learning in a variety of modes with simple adaptations to the Program.
• Incorporates instructional procedures and comprehensive materials, which echo the national recognition of the need for appropriate supports for learning, while simultaneously challenging students to meet their highest possible level of achievement.
• Includes initial assessments for accurate placement in the curriculum that allow each student to begin at an appropriately challenging level. The ongoing formative assessments, integrated with teaching procedures, provide an accurate real-time picture of student progress.
• Prepares students with significant cognitive disabilities for a variety of post-secondary options including continued education and paid vocation, as well as supported and independent living in the community.
The Program leads to steady, continuous progress for students with disabilities, as well as accurate measures of student learning. Furthermore, comprehensive data collection provides ample opportunities for teachers and other service providers to uncover methods and supports to increase student achievement.
Consultants are available to assist districts with alignment to specific state alternate assessments.
