The study of early Coop Himmelb(l)au, a donated piano, customized isotoner driving gloves, $50 worth of Radio Shack electrical components, 3 box fans, lots of steel, a 4' x 25' Sheet of Red Silk, and a 100' Fabulous Day-Glo Green Extension Cord. This was the Klavierwolke. The Klavierwolke was part of an installation show for the KSA Baumer Seminar with Wolf Prix of Coop HimmelB(L)au. It was an investigation into translation of one affect into another vis-à-vis prosthesis. The way that the Klavierwolke translated the act of playing the piano to a spatial affect was through the gloves. Each finger controled a switch, which in turn controled a fan. As one played the piano, the fans activated accordingly to one's finger movements, and the Silk danced to the music. The result of this translation was the creation of a simulacrum of sound waves in the rippling red silk. Winter 2005 Collaborators: Daniel Carney, Mark Miller. Advisor: Kivi Sotamaa [Ocean North] Klavierwolke xx
