Villarin Stephanie Villarin February 18, 2011 Period 6 Honors Language Arts The Stripped Branch Growth is the exquisite way of nature letting one know that transformation is occurring, from a human being to a thriving organism of the world. It is a process that accumulates such a vast amount of time; one can almost forget the extent of that occasion. At the tender age of curiosity, being seven meant I could explore the world also known as the front lawn a nd backyard of my family’s very first newly purchased home. Vividly in my mind, it was never just a front lawn, nor was it another empty area available for me to roam. It was an uncharted territory filled with freshly mowed grass, curly tipped overbearing rosebushes, and a n incandescent cherry blossom tree that lit up the entire place. From the view of a wide-eyed little girl, the sight of cherry blossoms was that of a pink cotton candy tree that stood too high for her to reach. As months of g azing into the cotton white and hints of cherry red amongst a statuesque baby smooth trunk passed, the tree’s escalation into magnificence conveyed an innocence and peacefulness achieved only by its natural beauty. I could measure my childhood not by years, but by seasons from the constant examination of the ever-changing cherry blossom tree that sat outside my window. Since the first summer to the last fall of its peaceful existence, I could remember the brilliance of each and eve ry flower that fell off the slender honed branches that swayed over its tender trunk. I would count each petal that would fly off gently pushed by the breeze and 1
