bidding for this gelding sped past €50,000. At this stage Gerry Hogan, Ian Ferguson, Katie Rudd and Joey Logan were all contending for the sale topper, but none could match a determined Norman Williamson in this battle for a National Hunt yearling of rare distinction.

“He’s a gorgeous horse by a good sire. He has that very good update and was a stand-out and, when you put that together, he was always going to be hard to buy. It’s tough to buy horses like this, but he’s very nice and has a lot going for him,” reflected Williamson.

Another very taking sort was a fine son of Shantou from Burgage Stud – home of the successful Alleged horse – who cost Timmy Hillman €62,000. Lot 68 is a full-brother to the promising Oliver Sherwood inmate Sevarano, who recently won a maiden hurdle at Cheltenham’s first meeting of the season, and they are out of a placed Azamour mare in Eva La Diva.

“We don’t usually buy yearlings, but he is just a very nice type. I’m very fond of the sire, he has been producing good horses year after year and this horse’s full-brother looks quite promising. There is the potential for more to happen in the family before he comes back to the Derby Sale in 18 month’s time and let’s hope that he’s lucky,” reported Hillman. country to get around, but we have a good relationship with the

forked out €25,000 for the smart looking Phantom Of Paridis, a French-bred son of Vision D’Etat. Lot 63 was consigned by Busherstown and he is the second produce out of Take This Waltz (Enrique), who won four times over jumps in France and is a full-sister to the Listed-placed jumper Prince Of Fields.

As well as supplying the day’s top priced lot, John Dwan consigned another very appealing sort in a gelding by the unraced Martaline horse Kitkou, whose eldest crop are two-year-olds. This stand-out individual is the first produce of the dual winner Estrela Rose (Rosen Kavalier) and he cost James Mernagh €45,000. Mernagh often contends for some of the best yearlings on offer at this sale and he confirmed that his purchase would be reoffered as a three-year-old.

“Hopefully he will be back for the Derby Sale. He is a gorgeous horse and a great mover, and he looked a bit of a stand-out,” declared Mernagh.

After selling two of three highest priced yearling yesterday a delighted John Dwan reflected: “They are both lovely individuals and were both bought in private sales at the beginning of the year. It was not definite that we were going to sell as yearlings, but you cannot bring them all back as three-year-olds. The Doctor Dino has always been a lovely horse and, of course, the update came just in time.

“Kitkou is a young sire, but we had had some luck before with him. French-bred horses are so very successful on the track. We spend a lot of time sourcing these horses, I am out in France a lot – it is big

WONDERFUL WIN AT KREFELDWonderful Moon provided a decisive win yesterday in the Gr.3 Grosser Preis Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen at Krefeld over 1700m in soft going.

The Sea The Moon colt raced in mid-division before taking up the better ground on the inside and taking up the lead, whilst the remainder of the field raced wide. Coming in to the home turn, he pushed for home and pulled clear to dominate the field by an impressive 12 lengths. His Henk Grewe-trained stablemate Schwesterherz (Areion) had raced close to the winner in the early stages and kept on well for second place, three and a quarter lengths ahead of Near Poet (Poet’s Voice).

looked to be Affe’s second string, but provided a first Stakes win for his owner Antonio di Carlo, a former professional football player.

Cacciante, bred in Ireland by John Weld, joined Affe for just £7,000 following a private sale at Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Breeze-Up Sale on his third turn in a sales ring. He is the sixth Stakes winner and the tenth black-type performer from the initial 108-foal crop sired by Night Of Thunder (Dubawi). He is the first foal out of the unraced Suggest (Raven’s Pass), a daughter of the Listed Silken Glider Stakes winner Boca Dancer (Indian Ridge).

Suggest has a yearling full-sister to Cacciante, purchased for €6,500 by Gordon Power Racing at Goffs Autumn Yearling Sale, while her foal, a colt by Dawn Approach is catalogued as Lot 1176 at Goffs November Foal Sale.

BLUEBERRY’S IFRACHY LANDS CRITERIUM FEMMINILEIfrachy (Iffraaj) headed a 1-2 for owner/breeder Scuderia Blueberry when outrunning her stablemate Frivola (Dawn Approach) in the Listed Criterium Femminile.

The filly, who found the trip a bit short in the Listed Premio Ubaldo Pandolfi last time, relished the step up from 1200m to 1500m. She is the second foal and winner out of the smart racemare Killachy Loose (Kyllachy), who highlighted her career winning the Gr.3 Premio Sergio Cumani and the Listed Premio Nogara, finishing in the first three in seven other Stakes races from two to four. Her first foal, the lightly-raced three-year-old filly Exceed Loose (Exceed And Excel), has won twice and was third in the Listed Premio Nogara.

Killachy Loose has a yearling filly by Oasis Dream and a filly foal by Golden Horn.

CAPANNELLE LISTED WINS FOR PRETENDING AND PARTY GOERSix-year-old Pretending (Librettist), back to business just 15 days after his impressive 14-length win in the Gr.3 St Leger Italiano, gave his supporters some worrying moments when challenged by the three-year-old Bridge Jazzaraat (Red Jazz), but finally fought back to win the LIsted Premio Roma Vecchia by a neck.

He is the best of the four winners produced by Brumeux (Machiavellian), who is from the same family as Golden Horn.

Bred by Gestut Gorlsdorf, the winner is a half-brother to the Listed-placed Wonderful Girl (Areion) and one other winner out of the three-year-old victrix Wonderful Filly (Lomitas). She is a half-sister to the Gr.3 winner and Gr.1-placed Wunder (Alderflug) and the Gr.3-placed Advanced (Night Shift). They are out of a Dashing Blade full-sister to three Listed winners and the third dam is the Gr.2-placed Wonderful Lady (Surumu).

ITALY

SIXTH STAKES WINNER FOR NIGHT OF THUNDERUp and coming trainer Agostino Affe posted a 1-2 in yesterday’s Listed Premio Rumon – Memorial Daniele Porcu over 1500m at Capannelle, thanks to Cacciante (Night Of Thunder), who defeated Crook (Zoffany) by a neck. The Sicilian-born Affe increased this season’s record with his juveniles to 22 wins from 66 runners, an impressive 33 per cent strike rate. Cacciante

grandam L’Authie (Linamix) was Listed-placed over hurdles and is a half-sister to the Listed winner and Gr.1 Prix Royal-Oak third Clety (Sillery) and the Listed-winning hurdler Hurtevent (Highest Honor).

SAINT SAONE LANDS PRIX SYTAJYoung female chasers were in action in the Gr.3 Prix Sytaj over 4300m and the Listed-winning hurdler Saint Saone was sent off favourite to beat her five opponents.

The Guillaime Macaire-trained Saint Des Saints five-year-old made the early running until headed by the year younger Amour Du Mathan (Saint Des Saints). They remained in that order until the second-last of the 19 obstacles, where Saint Saone regained the lead by half a length, jumped the last four lengths in front and then sprinted well clear on the run-in to win by an impressive 12 lengths. Amour Du Mathan just held on for second, a short neck in front of Lady Ardilaun (Soldier Of Fortune).

Owned by and part-bred by Jeannot Andt, Saint Saone was winning for the 11th time in 16 outings, having collected nine wins in a row, five over hurdles and four over fences, between July 2017 and May this year. In June she finished third in the Gr.3 Prix Christian de Tredern and, last month, was only fourth of six in a conditions chase here.

Her dam La Saone (Daliapour) won three times over jumps for her daughter’s other part-breeder, Haras de Nonant Le Pin, and her first three other progeny, two by Martaline and another by Saint Des Saints, are also winners. The grandam Stenoree (Garde Royale) won four times on the Flat and was Listed-placed over 1400m, and the best of her nine successful progeny are the Listed-winning hurdler Segre (Fragrant Mix), the Gr.2 Prix du Muguet runner-up Sarre (Freedom Cry), the 12-time winner Sisteron (Funambule) and the dam of the nine-time victrix Pepite Rose (Bonbon Rose), who was second behind Sire De Grugy in the 2014 Gr.1 Celebration Chase.

FIRST STAKES WIN FOR BEST SHOLOThe Prix Marc Antony, a 3900m Listed handicap hurdle for four-year-olds, went the way of Best Sholo (Sholokhov), who was earning black type on his first start in Stakes company and his ninth in all.

A Listed winner here last November, Mester (Tin Horse) cut out most of the running, followed early by Rigue (Yeats) and then by Fou Du Bresil (Blue Bresil). As they faded out of contention, Henry Brulard (Planteur) threw down a challenge, but it was Best Sholo who proved the strongest at the finish, staying on well and scoring by four and a half lengths. Mester

Four-year-old Party Goer (Intense Focus) clinched a well-deserved stakes win in the Listed Premio Buontalenta – Memorial Giuseppe Valiani over 1600m. The filly, trained by Endo Botti and Cristiana Brivio Sforza, was second in the race last year and stayed on gamely along the inside rail to beat the three-year-old Santa Rita (Jukebox Jury) and Olympic Games (Olympic Glory) by a head and a nose.

Party Goer is one of two winners from three foals of racing age produced by the dual Stakes-placed Savana Pearl (Byron), who is from the female line developed by Scuderia Siba that produced a winner of Gr.2 Prix Robert Papin in Lui Rei (Reinaldo) and the Gr.3 Balanchine Stakes victrix My Central (Central Park).

NATIONAL HUNT RACING REVIEWFRANCE

ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE WIN FOR L’AUTONOMIEThe Francois Nicolle-trained L’Autonomie easily justified favouritism in yesterday’s Gr.1 Prix Renaud du Vivier, the feature race at Auteuil. The 3900m hurdles contest for four-year-olds was dominated by fillies, who filled the first three places.

The favourite went straight to the front and was never headed, racing clear in the closing stages to beat September’s Listed winner Cotee Sud (Lord Du Sud) by 18 lengths, with the other filly, Listed victrix Byzance Du Berlais (Martaline), a length and a half further back in third. The Paul Nicholls-trained Pic D’Orhy (Turgeon) fell at half way and Polirico (Cokoriko) unseated his rider at the last when well behind the winner, though he looked set for a place.

Catherine Coiffier’s homebred winner has only been beaten twice in nine completed runs, when fourth behind two of yesterday’s rivals in April’s Gr.2 Prix Amadou and when third in the Gr.1 Prix Cambaceres 12 months ago.

She is by Blue Bresil, who moved from France to stand his first season at Yorton Stud in 2016, since when he has been on an upward curve. His progeny to date include the Gr.1-winning hurdler Mick Jazz, four-time Graded winner Saint Goustan Blue, triple Graded winner Le Prezien and the Gr.1-placed Gr.3 winner Miss Salsa Blue. Blue Bresil has now moved on to Rathbarry Stud’s National Hunt division in Ireland.

L’Autonomie is the only winner from the first six foals out of a half-sister to the Listed-placed La Canche (Le Havre). Her

Bacardys won the Gr.1 Champion Novice Hurdle at Punchestown at the end of the 2017 season and landed the runner-up slot in the Gr.1 Champion Stayers Hurdle at the same track in May. This was his opening race of the season and he holds an early closing entry for the Gr.1 Hatton’s Grace Hurdle for next month.

Bred by Eric Vagne & Jose da Silva he is the first foal and only winner out of the six-time victrix Oasice (Robin Des Champs). The grandam Best Ever (Kaldoun) scored on the Flat and over hurdles and is a half-sister to the Gr.3-winning hurdler Ennemi D’Etat (Passing Sale).

FAVOURITE TESTIO WINS GENERAL DONNIOPolinuit (Poliglote) and Montgeroult (Kapgarde) traded places at the front for the first half of the Listed Prix General Donnio, a 4400m chase, but the favourite Tiesto D’Authie (Cacher Noir) jumped to the front at that point. As the two early leaders lost ground at the business end of the race, it was Chinco Star (Malinas) who chased the favourite to the line, going down by three lengths, while Balkan Du Pecos (Balko) stayed on for third.

The Mikael Mescam-trained Tiesto D’Authie was winning for the eighth time on his 22nd start, having last been successful at Auteuil in May 2016. He has since won Listed chases at Angers, Bordeaux Le Bouscat and Compiegne and was second here on his previous start in a conditions chase over this trip.

He was bred by Yann Rougegrez and Jean-Luc Henry out of the unraced Tikibreeze (Phantom Breeze). The dam of two other winners, she is a half-sister to one winner and to the dam of last November’s Gr.1 Prix Maurice Gillois third Eddy De Balme (Cachet Noir). The third dam Tikiti Dancer (Fabulous Dancer) won the (now Gr.1) Prix Cambaceres and went on to foal eight winners, headed by the dual French Gr.1-winning hurdler Katiki (Cadoudal) and the Aintree Gr.3-winning chaser Edgardo Sol (Kapgarde). The dual Gr.1 Prix Royal-Oak winner Tac De Boistron (Take Risks) is further back in the family.

ABACADABRAS MAGICS UP GR.3 WINPlaced in a Gr.1 bumper at the end of last season, Abacadabras (Davidoff) won his hurdling debut last month and yesterday won the Gr.3 For Auction Novice Hurdle over 2m at Navan a shade cosily.

Racing towards the rear of the field, he travelled well into the second last and pulled clear from the last to win by three lengths under a hands and heels ride. Latest Exhibition (Oscar) had nothing extra to challenge, but finished six and a half lengths ahead of Foreign Secretary (Galileo) in third.

LARK RISES TO THE TOP DURING FIFTH SESSIONGlennwood Farm went to $325,000 for the three-year-old More Than Ready filly Lark Rise to head the listings by half way through yesterday’s fifth day of trading at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Lot 1525, consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales on behalf of Juddmonte Farms, is an unraced half-sister to a winner by War Front, out of a Giant’s Causeway half-sister to the multiple Gr.1 winner and sire Leroidesanimaux (Candy Stripes) and Brazilian Gr.1 winner and sire Uapybo (Blush Rambler). They are out of a half-sister to Juddmonte’s famed broodmare Hasili.

Leading the foals was Lot 1735, a March-born colt from the first crop by Gr.1 Cigar Mile winner Connect (Curlin) out of the Stakes-winning Unbridled’s Song mare Wild Hoots. From Paramount Sales, the grey, who was snapped up for $250,000 by Dailey Bloodstock, is a half-brother to the Gr.1-placed Stakes victrix Savings Account (Medaglia D’Oro) and is from the further family of Gr.1 winner and sire Buddha.

ELiTE was the consignor of Lot 1599, three-year-old Super Freak, who went to LBD Stable for $210,000. A dual winner and placed six times in Stakes company, the daughter of Mineshaft is a granddaughter of the Gr.1-placed Touch Gold mare Keep The Peace.

KEENELAND – DAY FOUR

YOUNG BROODMARES TOP SATURDAY’S SESSIONTwo broodmares topped Saturday’s session of the Keeneland November Sale at $310,000 a piece.

Bred by Mme Evelyne Van Haaren, the winner has an entry in next month’s Gr.1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle and is a full-brother to the dual Gr.3-placed chaser La Barakas, out of the placed hurdler Cadoubelle Des As (Cadoudal). The placed third dam produced the Gr.2 Silver Trophy Handicap Chase victor Poliantas (Rasi Brasak).

BALLYOISIN WINS GR.2 FORTRIA RENEWALWinner of this event last season, the favourite Ballyoisin practically made all to win the Gr.2 Fortria Chase over 2m at Navan once more.

The Presenting eight-year-old soon picked up the lead and raced with his ears pricked relishing his jumping in the soft to heavy conditions. A Plus Tard (Kapgarde) was unable to throw down a challenge, finishing two and three quarter lengths back in second, while Hardline (Arcadio) headed the remainder of the field a further 11 lengths back in third.

Bred by Mrs C A Moore, he is the first foal out of the unplaced Regal Force (King’s Ride). The second dam Force Seven (Strong Gale) was successful at Listed level over both hurdles and fences and is a half-sister to the triple Listed-winning and Gr.1-placed hurdler Notcomplainingbut (Supreme Leader), dam of the Gr.2-placed chaser Elsie.

BRITAIN

SANTINI SECURES A RACE OF TWO HALVESMaking his seasonal debut, short-priced favourite Santini (Milan) faced a battle yesterday to secure the Listed Future Stars Intermediate Chase at Sandown over 3m.

Now McGinty (Stowaway) led for a majority of the race, with Santini racing close by. From the second to last fence the duo pulled clear of the remaining two runners and went to battle stride for stride from the last fence to the line, where Santini won by a head. Talkischeap (Getaaway) finished a further 30 lengths back in third, a short head in front of the final runner Steely Addition (Craigsteel).

Santini won the Gr.1 Sefton Hurdle in 2018 and landed a Gr.2 Chase on seasonal debut last year before gaining two Gr.1-placings. This was meant to be a easy seasonal debut for the seven-year-old favourite, but the 12/1 shot Now McGinty gave him more than a run for his money. Santini has now been ruled out of the Gr.1 King George VI Chase, for which he had been entered, but still holds an entry in the Gr.1 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Another GROUP winner bred by

WONDERFUL MOON (2yo colt by SEA THE MOON) is a very impressive 12 lengths winner of the Group 3 Grosser Preis Herzog Von Ratibor-Rennen at Krefeld yesterday.

Congratulations to all the connections!

The son of Champion Sire Hurricane Cat (Storm Cat) made history as his trainer María Cristina Muñoz is the first woman to win that race. The little grey (around 425 kilos) was unstoppable in the final straight, easily heading the favourite Tetaze (Equal Stripes) with 200m to go and surely earning himself the title of Champion Three-Year-Old Male of the season.

Previously successful in the Gr.1 Gran Premio Polla de Potrillos and fourth behind Roman Joy (Fortify), who was fifth here, in the Gr.1 Gran Premio Jockey Club, the first two legs of the Triple Crown, Miriñaque also won the Gr.3 Clásico Old Man. He started his campaign with two second places over just 1000m, making him a real all-rounder.

An excited Muñoz commented after the race: “This is amazing. The horse was amazing. I can’t believe this moment. We always knew he was a very nice horse and now he has shown everybody he is by far the best.”

Bred by Haras de la Pomme and owned by Stud Parque Patricios, Miriñaque was also giving Brazilian jockey Francisco Leandro his first victory in the Derby.

Out of the Honour And Glory mare Langostura, Miriñaque will face older horses in San Isodro’s Gr.1 Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini (2400m, turf ) on 14th December, South America’s most prestigious race.

The card also included two other Gr.1 races, the 1600m Gran Premio Palermo and the 1000m Gran Premio Maipú. Pinball Wizard (Orpen) was the revelation in the Palermo, jumping to the front among the best middle-distance horses, while Art Show (Endorsement), came from behind to easily win the Maipu.
