• You ONLY have 30 days after entering into Spain to apply for your NIE.

• As soon as you arrive in Madrid, come to the Student Life Office with:

• a) your passport,

• b) your visa (usually stuck to your passport),

• c) your entry stamp page and/or your boarding pass/travel document that shows the date when you entered Spain

• Ms. Paula Otero will make an appointment online for you and will e-mail you the information.

• The date of the appointment CANNOT BE CHANGED

• You ONLY have 30 days after entering into Spain to apply for your NIE.

1 passport type & 2 size photograph.

2. Spanish Empadronamiento Certificate from Madrid city Council: Ms. Margarita Casado, Housing Coordinator, will help you filling it out and making an appointment at the Student Life Office (9.30am-3.30pm)

3. An specific Form #790 012 available at the Student Life Office showing that you have paid the fees to apply for the NIE at a local bank

4. A personal Certificate prepared for you by the SLU-Madrid Registrar’s Office

5. Your Appointment Letter (emailed to you by Ms. Paula Otero)

6. Your Passport (the original and one copy)

Once you get your NIEOnce you get your NIE

• Your will get the Residency Card with your NIE,

30 days after your appointment.

• You MUST open a Spanish Bank Account the office of Banco Santander located in Calle Guzmán el Bueno. (They

know SLU and help students in opening these accounts: ASK FOR

PACO.) You must proof to use this account on a regular basis and to have a monthly deposit of at least 550 € for the 6 to 12 months of your stay in order to have financial bank statements to be able to renew your card the following year.

• The card must be renewed each year no earlier than 60 days prior to the card’s expiration date, and no later than 90 days after it expires. You must plan all your traveling accordingly.

• Your will get the Residency Card with your NIE,

students going through the NIE Application process, the NIE renewal and the Autorización de Regreso application. In order to receive this help and mentoring you MUST go to the Student Life Office and/or contact: [email protected]

• Each student is the only person responsible to follow all the guidelines and deadlines established by the Spanish Authorities in order to get: his/her NIE, renew his/her NIE it and get an Autorización de Regeso to re-enter Spain in case of need; as these are all Spanish legal procedures over which the SLU-Madrid campus has no authority nor control.
