B’nai Mitzvot
Rachel Langweil was called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah on
Saturday, May 2. Mazal Tov to Rachel and her Family!
The Bat Mitzvah of Emma Stein will
be held on Saturday, June 13. Mazal Tov to Emma and her Family! All members
are invited to attend. Rabbi's Message The end and the beginning - the transition between the two within Judaism is often quite subtle. This is especially the case when it comes to study of our treasured and most holy texts. Think about the holiday of Simhat Torah, the day of overwhelming joy and happiness because we have once again finished our annual reading of the Torah. And just as soon as we celebrate the conclusion, we immediately open a pre-set Torah to the beginning of Genesis in order to start again. There is virtually no lag time between ending and re-starting. I am extremely honored and pleased to tell you that on Monday, April 27, ten Kol Shalom members and I completed our study of the Talmudic tractate known as Megilah. We met on most Monday mornings over the course of the last five to six years, taking our time while encouraging questions and analysis of the

President's Message Our newly refurbished and expanded building is now finally ours. We had a beautiful Dedication Ceremony on March 15, 2015, attended by U.S. Senator and Mrs. Ben Cardin and State Senator John Astle. A mezuzah was affixed on the door to the new preschool entrance to dedicate the building. We have already used the entire building for many activities. On April 15, the Community Yom Hashoah Remembrance Day Commemoration was held in our building with approximately 175 people attending this very moving event. Other events held in the building include the Rabbi's adult education classes held in our new library and Shabbat Yachad services, which were recently held in the new double classroom in the new education wing. I am certain that we will be holding many events in all areas of the building. Our administrative assistant, Mary Fortin, loves her new office in the school wing especially since she now has a window in her office! We will be welcoming our newer members on Shabbat morning, May 30, and I hope that many of you will attend to greet them. On Sunday, June 14 at 10:00 AM, we will be having a Congregational meeting. We are looking for some new and younger members who would be interested in serving on the Board. Please contact me if you are interested in running for the Board. I look forward to seeing many of you at our Kol Shalom events. Howard Salob, President Board of Directors

Rabbi’s Message (cont’d from page 1)
text. I am quite proud of this group of fellow students (Levi Goldfarb, Jim Hutton, Tom Jones, Joyce and Leonard Malech, Elie Pallia. Barry Rosenberg, Dave Sheinhorn, Ira Snyder, Ben Weiner) and I look forward to this coming Monday, May 4, when G-d willing we will begin study of tractate Rosh HaShanah. The Annapolis Jewish community is marking another important end and beginning at the local Aleph Bet Jewish Day School. Kol Shalom member Nan Jarashow is retiring after serving 17 years as Head of School. I began to visit Aleph Bet almost immediately after my arrival to Annapolis seven years ago. Each visit has inspired and impressed me with the high level of learning and Derech Eretz that Nan has helped bring to the school. Nan interacts with her students using great skill, kindness and patience. She makes this difficult task seem easy. We are very pleased that the annual Aleph Bet Siyum (graduation) ceremony will this year be held at our synagogue on Monday, June 8 at 7:00 PM. Mazal Tov to Nan on being such an important contributor to Jewish life and education in our community and may her successor, Sarah White, both follow in Nan's footsteps while creating new paths of her own for our community's only Jewish Day School. Rabbi Philip Pohl

Thank You!
Mary Fortin and her Family
would like to thank the members of Congregation Kol Shalom for
your outpouring of love and support following the death of her
grandmother. Your kindness was a comfort during a difficult time and
is much appreciated.
Ziza Pallia would like to thank everybody who helped to make this yet another successful year
for Torah Fund!
Women's League
Oneg/Kiddush Fund 2015-16
The Women's League is continuing its practice of giving congregants
the opportunity to sponsor the Friday night Oneg Shabbat and the Saturday morning Kiddush in honor
or in memory of special events, such as birthdays, anniversaries, or yahrzeits. While contributions are accepted throughout the year, our
regular cycle is from July 1 to June 30. We have received over
200 contributions to the Oneg Shabbat/Kiddush Fund during the past year from about 40 members, and have kept the fee at $10 per
event to encourage wide participation.
If you have made a contribution to the Oneg/Kiddush fund during the past year, Sharon Kolstad will be sending you your list so you can
update it if you wish. In addition, the new Oneg/Kiddush request forms
are available in the lobby. Your completed form and a check
made out to Women's League of Kol Shalom can be returned to
the synagogue office, Attn: Oneg Fund. (For those of
you who are updating existing lists, you can e-mail your updated list
back to Sharon and send the check in to the synagogue office,
Attn: Oneg Fund.)
Cemetery Plots
Kol Shalom cemetery plots are still available. The Kol Shalom Cemetery is located within the

DRRS News
Things are jumping at DRRS as we finish our move into the new building. All the rooms are set up giving us a beautiful inside and a beautiful view outside as Spring buds around us. Many people helped us move into our building and without their help we never could have completed the task. A hearty Todah Rabah to everyone who helped in any way to pack up, unpack, clean, and move us. We are so very grateful!! We have a few more wonderful events to finish our school year. This coming Shabbat evening, May 8, the 4-5 students will help Rabbi Pohl with the service. On May 15, the K-1-2 students will help with the Shabbat evening service at a special time of 7:00 PM. We all celebrate these student services and hope that everyone can come to show how proud we are of all of our DRRS students. On June 7, we will honor all of our DRRS students and this year's graduates with our closing ceremony. This will take place at 10:00 AM and all families are encouraged to attend to help us celebrate!
