Project Rachel Day of Reflection

If you have been touched by an abortion experience, come to the waters of healing, and experience the love and compassion of Jesus. It will be a time to listen to those who have had the same experience. There will be time

for prayer, to do Scriptural exercises, to go to Confession and to receive the gift of Jesus

in the Eucharist.

PREGNANCY CENTER OF WESTERLY

Dear Fr. Suibielski, the Respect Life Ministry, and the families of St. Clare, The Pregnancy Center of Westerly continues to grow, with the kind support from you and many of our faithful friends. It is with this ongoing support that we are still available to answer the call for help from so many young mothers and families.

I would like to thank you for your kind support and generosity at our Rose Sale. It went very well because of all those who assisted in getting and coordinating volunteers and the volunteers themselves for their time.

Your donations of $1140 will help to provide many items such as cribs, car seats, strollers, diapers as well as many articles of clothing.

epochal decades. Included are the stoning of Stephen, the road to Damascus, their

encounter in Jerusalem, their conflicts over how the word of Christ should be spread.

The drama concludes in Rome in approximately A.D. 64 with the beheading of Paul and the crucifixion of Peter under

Emperor Nero.

New Parking Directions for the Watch Hill Chapel Parking Lot

Beginning June 21, you will be directed to enter the parking lot from the south end where a new gate has been installed. Cars should easily be able to pull into the lot through the gate Sunday mornings and park as usual. Then leave the lot via the marked exit at the north end of the parking lot. We tried this a few times last summer, but the access point proved to be too tight. That problem has now been remedied with the new gate and smoothed apron. Please also notice that the new exit has a mechanical arm across it which will automatically lift as a car approaches it from inside the lot. Otherwise, the arm will be down, and thus that point of access blocked. The reason for changing the direction is to simplify the parking ingress and egress, making it more efficient and easier to enter and exit the lot. The new gate will also help deter illegal beach parking. Should access to the parking lot be needed outside of Sunday services, an entrance code will be issued which will need to be entered into the key-pad that will be beside the entrance gate. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

St. Clare Stewardship Ministry Corner

• The Stewardship Ministry meetings are held on a monthly basis in the lower rectory at 6 PM. The next meeting

will be held on Tuesday, June 23. All are welcome.

• The Prayer Ministry is dedicated to those who request our prayers. To join this ministry or to send a prayer intention, please write in the Book of Intentions near the Baptistry or e-mail mbrockmann@cox.net .

• The Respect Life Ministry seeks to promote and protect the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death. The ministry meets the Third Wednesday of every month at 8:30, May through December in the Parish Center. The Rosary for life will be postponed through the winter months.

• The Hospitality Ministry provides a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere for members of the St. Clare community and visitors, as well as new parishioners, to meet and interact with one another in a positive way. This ministry provides opportunities to promote parish fellowship and, when necessary, to assist the Pastor with special events. Meetings take place the first Thursday of every month at 8:30 AM in the Parish Center. All are welcome. The next meeting will be on July 2.

• The Helping Hands Ministry reaches out to those who are needy, elderly, sick or in need of bereavement consolation. This ministry meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 4 PM in the Parish Center. Enter through the door in the rear parking area. Please feel free to come to these meetings; new faces are always welcome. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 7.

2016 River Cruise

There is still time to book your Vantage Southern France River Boat Cruise with fellow parishioners.

The dates next summer are August 31 to September 11.

To date, 17 travelers are booked, including Father Ken. They will travel in France to Burgundy, Beaujolais and

Provence. Flyers about the trip are available in the church office.

St. Pius X School Pre-Kindergarten for ages 3 & 4

The St. Pius X School Pre-Kindergarten program

offers the best of both worlds, the RI Early Learning Standards and the Diocese of Providence pre-kindergarten

guidelines. It is more than just a day care, and generally less expensive. Our students get hands-on experience in a center-

based environment housed in our new wing.

In addition to classroom instruction and interpersonal skill training, our students receive music and art instruction

from our specials teachers, along with library. They also learn drama by performing at our assemblies. Students

experience community service by visiting our neighboring nursing home, bringing smiles to the elderly through their com-

panionship and song.

THANKSGIVING

The word “thanksgiving” most often calls to our mind the holiday in November. But as early as the middle of the second century Justin Martyr referred to the blessed bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper as “food we call ‘thanksgiving’ ” (in Greek eucharistia). The Thanksgiving we celebrate in the autumn is at times marked by a sort of proud societal self‑congratulation and the consumption of food until we sink into an inert stupor. The “thanksgiving” that we call our Eucharist is just the opposite: we are led to it by an acknowledgment of our own failings; we remember our humble place in the scheme of things by giving praise to God alone.

While the food of Christ’s body and blood fills our spiritual hungers, it also creates in us a greater hunger. We are not sent to our spiritual sofas to let the Lord’s Supper settle; we are sent to be living signs of that thanksgiving for the world by looking out for the poor and powerless, feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, speaking out against the self‑righteous. In short, the hunger created by our doing in remembrance of Christ must lead us to living in remembrance of him. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
