NSW Public Schools are provided with teachers and staff on an age-based differential formula. Once the Princi- pal enters anticipated numbers of students, Department of Education staffing will allocate a set number of teachers and administration staff to each school. It is then the Principal s job, with input from the school executive and teachers, to organise the best mix of classes and the best teacher allocation to suit the available resources. As students are placed into classes, a wide range of factors are taken into account. Although this is not an exact science, the art of class- room placement for a student is a professionally responsible decision based on a combination of academic needs, social skills (or need to improve social skills), combinations with other students, the degree and number of high needs students within the cohort, special medical conditions, teacher expertise, and teaching and learning styles. Rarely do we get this placement wrong. Parents will be provided with reasons for class placement of their child if requested. However, I want to make it very clear that it is very rarely possible to move one child from one class to another. The complexity of learning needs, classroom personalities and the intercon- nectedness of classroom interactions do not allow for such an easy swapfrom one class to another. Whilst we will always listen to (and take into consideration) the concerns of parents, it is in the end, the decision of the Principal and the school as to where the best learning setting is for each individual student. UNIFORM SHOP CHANGES FOR 2020 The North Rocks P&C Association have recently completed the tender process for the transition of the NRPS Uniform shop to an online store with the contract being offered to Midford a company who currently operate similar online stores for many schools. The contract for the provision of our school uniforms will officially commence in Term 1, 2020. The transition process is already underway with the web- site being developed and the movement of stock to Midford taking place shortly. In finalising the current uniform shop, all purchases and returns must be completed by Tuesday 10 th December, 2019. On behalf of the school community, I would like to express a huge thanks to Kirsten Small for her excellent coordination of the uniform shop over the past four years and for leading this tender process. Also, a huge thank you to the many other parent volunteers who gave their time so generously to ensure uniforms were available to our students over the years. CLASS FORMATIONS FOR DAY ONE, 2020 The increasing, yet shifting enrolment profile at North Rocks PS has created some uncertainty around the best class organisation model for the school to start the new year. Presently, it is anticipated that three multi-age or composite classes will be created to cater for the growing student population. These will be across 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6. However, new local enrolments which are both expected and unex- pected on day one may shift class organisation one way or the other. With this in mind, I have indicated to staff that on day one of Term 1, students will remain with their current teachers until numbers are confirmed any new enrolments have added to class lists, a process that should be completed by lunchtime. OC ORIENTATION DAY My sincere thanks to the parents of 5M, the P&C, and other parent volunteers who assisted with the OC orientation day on Monday. PRESENTATION DAY Presentation Day 2019 will be held on Monday 10th December. Year 3- 6 Presentation will commence at 9:30am, fol-lowed by K-2 at 11:30am. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the work of so many children and it will be great to share this event with parents. SYMPHONIC SHOWCASE & DRAMA PERFORMANCE The annual Symphonic Showcase of our performing arts groups will be held on Tuesday 10 th December. All are invited to attend this great night and see the excellent results of the work children have undertaken throughout the year. In a change from the regular format, the night will commence with a Drama production from 5:30pm, with the Symphonic Showcase starting at 7:00. The P&C will collect a gold coin donation for the Symphonic Showcase at the door which will go towards ensuring band instruments are repaired or replaced and consumable supplies are replenished in readi-ness for next year. We hope you can join us on this wonderful event. THANK YOU MORNING TEA FOR PARENTS As a way of saying thank you to the parents who have worked around the school in so many different capacities throughout the year, I would like to invite our parent helpers to a Thank Y ou Morning Tea on Thursday 5th December. P&C Report Term 4 Week 6 It’s been a big year of fundraising. So where is all that money going? You may be wondering after all our amazing fundraising initiatives this year, where is the money being spent? Well first of all, thank you for supporting all of our events this year - without a strong parent body and generous community we would not have been able to run all the events. Because of this wonderful effort there are plans in the pipeline. Things do not happen overnight, but the plans are already un-derway for surfacing the K-2 “dustbowl”. The other projects include furnishing the new buildings, air conditioning the hall, upgrading the toilets, providing smart boards and ensuring SLSO staff can as-sist in classrooms where needed. These are just some of the ways the P&C are working with the school staff to use the money which we are very grateful for. We look forward to holding a FETE again next year. With the positive feedback, we look to also run-ning Trivia Night and the Golf Day again in the new year. Stay tuned! Did you love all the amazing artworks created by the classes of North Rocks Public School this year? Well now is your chance to own a 2020 calendar showcasing these beautiful masterpieces! What a great idea for a Christmas present or to hang in your kitchen or study. Order through Flexischools now! Be quick! Thank you to those who assisted with the 2020 kindergarten and Opportunity Class orientations We are grateful for your help in selling uniforms. In 2020, the uniform shop will be transitioning to an online shopping platform operated by Midford. The final day for uniform sales from the existing shop will be Tuesday 10th December. A big thank you to all our volunteers who have helped in the uniform shop in the past, in particular Kristen Small. Kirsten has done an amazing job running the uniform shop over the past 4 years! I am sad to say that we had a very unfortunate incident during the walkathon where little Hugo from year 1 had a stroke. Hugo is still in hospital and in the start of a long recovery process. In true com-munity spirit of rallying around others, a few NRPS mothers got together to see how they can help the family in this trying time. A go fund me page was set up to assist the family. Thoughts are with the family through this difficult time and we hope Hugo makes a strong recovery. If you’d like to do-nate the link is attached. https://www.gofundme.com/f/j2xrx-helping-hugo Finally, thank you to those who came along to our final meeting for the year. We have a new email ad-dress!! If you have any questions or want to know how you can be involved in the P&C then you can email [email protected] or come along to our next meeting which will be in 2020!! John Bolwell P&C President
