Background FICO has a wide and diverse experience in dealing with all kinds of financial, decisioning and operational issues. Between them, our consultants have hundreds of years of project experience. As part of our Operational Excellence Programme we wished to exploit that experience to benefit all our existing customers. To that end we asked our consultants to identify those difficulties which are the most common across our client base and define a set of services to manage and mitigate them. In this document, common barriers to operational excellence are addressed by specific services, grouped into operational areas. All the services are designed to achieve high return on investment. Each service is flexible and may be tailored to the needs of the customer. Whether provided directly by FICO or through one of our network of international partners, the service will be delivered by a specialist consultant certified by FICO. As a valued customer we wanted to share these ideas with you to provide food for thought and an opportunity for further collaboration. If you wish to discuss a specific service, please contact the FICO address shown on that service’s description page; for a more general discussion about the Operational Excellence Programme, please contact:

BL01: Executable Analytics
An end-to-end service offering to help you design, develop, execute and test your analytical models, integrate them into your runtime systems and track their effectiveness
FICO’s “Executable Analytics Service” offering transforms your paper models into executable services in Blaze Advisor or plain Java. Predictive Model Implementation through this service enables businesses to:
Determine the best action Apply workflow or sets of further rules / strategies Assign risk rankings that influence key business decisions
Client Pain Points FICO Services Business Benefits Implementation of models is lengthy Inaccurate model output Models not business-friendly Testing is limited Model re-use not achieved
It takes 3-6 months+ for IT Teams to implement each model Minor model changes become sizeable IT implementations The output from our modelling teams does not get implemented accurately Models are hidden in legacy code that business users may not understand Limitations on testing, tracking and validation of custom implementation. Consistency and reuse across channels not commonly achieved
FICO experts convert Analytical Models into a business Rule Service-based scorecard
The business decision service accepts a single
input document (XML or Java) and returns an output object that contains the score and the reason code
A Rule Maintenance Application is provided for
viewing and manipulating scorecards for business users
Unit Testing can be carried out using your data A Java-based deployment service is available for
“black box” deployment independent of Blaze Advisor
Performance Tracking and regression testing are
optional
Time to market: Implementation timeframes are shortened to between 4 and 6 weeks
Models are now managed in a repository allowing
Traceability and Versioning Lifecycle Management Re-use
The implemented model can be managed by your business users
Model maintenance ownership shifts to your
business users and can be done in real time Streamlined, easy and best practice-based
testing and tracking

FICO's Blaze Advisor upgrade service offering helps you to upgrade to the latest version of Blaze Advisor more quickly. The latest version of Blaze Advisor will help you to enhance your productivity; the new product features help you to design and build projects more effectively, in shorter timeframes. This will result in faster movement to production and a shorter time to market.
Client Pain Points FICO Services Business Benefits Rules projects are lengthy Project time to market high RMA functionality is limited Project validation is complex
Takes a long time to develop rule projects - no help during build Time to market is increased as any major / critical change has to be done by a developer through the IDE, with associated lengthened cycle times Inability to build complex formulae and / or calculations through the RMA Changes made using the RMA cannot be checked for accuracy easily. No functionality is available to compare versions of a given project
FICO experts will: Upgrade your current decision services to utilise
latest Blaze Advisor technology Mentor your team on the useful features of the
latest version of Blaze Advisor and how to optimise their use for successful projects
Assist with your implementation of Blaze Advisor
according to FICO best practices
Authoring Intellisense speeds up your project development

BL05: Blaze Advisor Interactive Question-and-Answer Framework
The provision of an interactive Question and Answer framework for Blaze Advisor, to enhance your business functionality
Effective price-positioning for interactive / Q and A functionality Helps to penetrate ‘pre-rules’ business areas where multiple request-response scenarios are involved Utilises Blaze Advisor decision trees to implement valuable business functionality often not addressed by rule implementations Reduces dependency on third-party systems for the Sales / Sourcing aspect of business which requires creation of dynamic question trees based
on real-time customer responses
Client Pain Points FICO Services Business Benefits Implementation time lengthy Lack of transparency, agility and business control Code duplication and lack of standards
Implementing an interactive information-gathering service for applications is often embedded in applications as client server code Logic is hard coded and requires IT to manage; business users have no direct control and it takes too long to make relatively minor modifications to the flow Multiple implementations exist to provide the same functionality for various products, applications and channels (i.e. call centres, online and telephone). This limits re-use and often requires duplication of effort, with limited use of recognised best practices and scalable architecture
Use the pre-configured Q and A framework built using decision trees and XSD schema
Develop a front end (ASP or JSP page) if
required Provide you with a fully-flexible Q and A
framework in which you can add, edit or delete questions, and specify appropriate data types for each answer
Allows you to use Blaze Advisor for interactive applications in real time, in addition to the powerful rule execution functionality
Eliminates the need to go to another vendor for
a different product for interactive components, removing the requirement for separate integration with Blaze Advisor decision services
Immediate benefit can be seen for Insurance
quotation-generation applications, IVR setups, call centres
Estimated Effort: 20 – 25 days FICO Contact: [email protected]

BL06: Generic User Interface
The provision of a generic user interface to Blaze Advisor
A rich graphical user interface to Blaze Advisor Showcase Blaze Advisor as a complete application, with a front-end GUI and back-end processing Enter data to be processed and view generated results dynamically
Client Pain Points FICO Services Business Benefits Demonstrating the capabilities of Blaze Advisor can be difficult
Blaze Advisor is dependent on external programs to communicate with users, which can impose technical limitations It can be challenging to demonstrate the capabilities of Blaze Advisor without a front-end interface program. Often time is taken up in developing such programs, and as a consequence project costs may be driven up This affects the perception of Blaze Advisor as a competitive business rules engine solution through no fault of its own
The provision of a web-based front end to allow you to enter Business Object Model data
Allow you to submit this data to a running
decision service and capture the decision results The provision of a generic User Interface using
an easily configurable framework such as Spring, Struts or Java Server Faces
Using Java FX to provide a rich graphical user
experience to do justice to the advanced technology of Blaze Advisor
Save the expense of sourcing, building and interfacing a separate user interface layer
Save the project lead time in developing and
testing the user interface layer Immediately see what Blaze Advisor can do When linked with the Rules Maintenance
Application, you can modify business rules, enter data and view decision results as part of lifecycle management

BL07: Release Management
The provision of a Release Management toolkit
Release Management functionality covers:
A control panel for rule service deployment Version Control for rule service deployment Promotion of a rule service version into a specific environment with one click Revert to a previous rule service version with one click
Client Pain Points FICO Services Business Benefits Release management can be prone to human error Releasing software is time-consuming
Manual release management is a technical process, when it should (at least in part) be an automated business process. It is prone to error when it should be foolproof. Software releasing should be a quick and simple process. Generally the user experience is poor involving text editors and command-line scripts. At the same time release management of rule services is business-critical
The provision of a Control Panel for Release Management which can be viewed from within the Rules Maintenance Application
A completely generic Blaze Advisor project that is
already tried and tested Visibility of which version of a decision service
has been deployed into each environment
The time and overhead that you spend in managing rule service releases manually will be saved
Potential errors in deployment process can be
completely eliminated Business-critical deployments can be managed
in an agile manner The technical task of deployment is brought into
alignment with your business users’ experience of quickly changing rules via a Rules Maintenance Application
You can now quickly deploy decision services
across development, system test, user acceptance test, and production environments

BL08: Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
Exposing the Blaze Advisor solutions suite as a component of a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
Open up Blaze Advisor to the world of Service Oriented Architecture Take any external service and incorporate it into your Blaze Advisor decision services Seamlessly integrate with other FICO products Make componentised, reusable decision services
Client Pain Points FICO Services Business Benefits Integration of Blaze Advisor with external services can be difficult
Integrating Blaze Advisor with other services relies on orchestration by an external program. The external services can only be incorporated into decision services with customised code, so connecting to new services is not straightforward. Blaze Advisor decision services cannot easily communicate with other Blaze Advisor decision services, resulting in the possibility of decision services having overlapping functionality that should be reusable
Allow management of the interactions with other decision services and external services via your Rules Maintenance Application
Leverage other FICO products into the Blaze
Advisor solution, utilising the whole DM Tools Suite with Blaze Advisor at the centre
By reusing smaller componentised decision services, your maintenance and development costs are reduced significantly; for example, low-level knockout rules can be reused by multiple decision services without them having to be contained in the same repository as your other decision services
Estimated Effort: Time and Materials-based FICO Contact: [email protected]

BL09: Blaze Advisor Test Harness
An integrated test suite that extends Blaze Advisor’s existing BrUnit functionality
The Blaze Advisor test harness extends and complements the existing BrUnit test capabilities. After a small amount of configuration provided by FICO’s Professional Services team, the test harness will save you time and money by enabling you to run a suite of tests through your existing Blaze Advisor framework.
Client Pain Points FICO Services Business Benefits System testing is time-consuming System testing not repeatable Test data provision is manual for each test cycle
System testing is a time consuming process System testing is often not totally repeatable Your decision service test data must be manually updated before each test run can be initiated
Integrate an easily configurable test harness with your existing framework
Provide the ability to run multiple tests from Blaze
Advisor and your RMA
Perform multiple test runs at the click of a button Test data can be supplied in XML format Reduce your costs by reducing the time and
labour involved in testing
Estimated Effort: 5 days FICO Contact: [email protected]

BL10: Authentication and Authorisation Manager
The provision of a customisable authentication and authorisation manager enabling control over repository access
The authorisation and authentication module provides an easily manageable layer of security to your Blaze Advisor rules repositories. After customisation provided by our Professional Services team you will have full control over access to repository components including which resources can read or update them.
Client Pain Points FICO Services Business Benefits Repository security breaches
Your users may be able to access repository components that do not pertain to their role. Different users require different levels of access for repository components (e.g. read-only access)
Customisation of an authentication and authorisation manager
Provision of read / write access control at
repository level Control of component access rights using XML or
privileges stored in a database
Limit the access to, and use of, repository components to authorised parties within your business
Increase your control over repository
accessibility SHA-1 password encryption
