2017 BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL IN GIVING, WE RECEIVE

The vital work of our Church supported bythe Bishop’s Annual Appeal is only as successful as the number offaithful parishioners who participate by making a gift. Your supporthelps bring hope to those who come to our Catholic Charitiesagencies. It supports seminarian education, our diocesan priests’residence and our inner-city area schools. Every gift counts! St.Teresa once wrote that “we feel what we are doing is a drop in theocean, but that ocean would be less without that drop”. OurBishop’s Annual Appeal is able to do that much more with what youare able to give. Please help make 2017 the year that our Bishop’sAnnual Appeal does even more for people in profound need.

FAITH AT HOMESome Christians cannot accept that we do notneed to work hard to “earn” God’s love. God’slove is unconditional. If we really believe this,

we will not mind inviting late arrivals to that sameintimacy. Adults: When and with whom have I beenstingy with mercy, doling it out in small sums? When haveI failed to recognize, accept, and appreciate the limitlessmercy God has offered me? Children: Do I get upsetwhen one of my friends gets something that I think Ideserve? Family Perspective: Take some time this week toengage your family in a dialogue about this parable.Ask everyone how they REALLY feel about thegenerosity of the landlord. Among children there is atendency to equate love with gifts and material things. This tendency can devolve into a spirit of entitlement, which runs counter to the spirit of gratitude. Any effortwe make to overcome this tendency, to keep love frombeing entwined with gifts and possessions, will enableour children to accept completely the love that Godgives freely and generously.

From Fr. Roberto:

Dear friends,

Last week we gathered at the Parish Center to open our Religious Education Program from PreK-8th

grade. I had the opportunity to meet many of our children and their parents. I introduced myself as thenew Administrator and I expressed my joy in having our church and parish facilities full of children andparents again. I was really waiting for that moment since I came here at the end of June. Our childrentruly give life to our community and we need them here. I talked to them about being part of theliturgical life of our parish. They can serve as Altar Servers and in this way they learn to serve not onlyGod, but also the whole community. I deeply believe that when our children are serving on the Altar, ourcelebrations are much more beautiful. They are our hope in the Church and in the world and they giveus so much joy. I invited them to join our Altar Server Ministry. Fr. Milton is meeting them on the 2nd

Tuesday of the month at the Church at 6:30pm. The group is increasing gradually and I am sure thiscan be a joyful experience for our children. Our Christian life is about serving. This ministry offers anopportunity to our little ones to learn how to serve from the very beginning of their lives. I also talked toall the parents about educating their children in the faith. They are the first teachers of their children inthis matter. The Church can only help them to fulfill this commitment. We are more than happy to sharethis responsibility with them here in our parish.

This Sunday we are also meeting our teenagers from our Confirmation Program (9th and 10th graders). We welcome them and wish them a wonderful year. May they grow in the knowledge of God and theChurch. May their commitment with the Lord and our community also grow and bear fruit. We aregetting ready for our Confirmation Ceremony with the Bishop on Friday, October 6th. For those who willbe confirmed, this is the end of the Confirmation Program; however, it is also the beginning of a newjourney in faith and commitment. After receiving the fullness of the grace from the Holy Spirit they willbe ready to live as members of the Church fully and truly committed to God and his Kingdom on Earth.

This week we also are having our Food Drive which we call “Loaves and Fishes”. This is a beautifulgesture of love to those who are hungry and need our support. It speaks to the generosity of our parishand our commitment to the poor of God. Thank you for this lovely-simple sign of charity. May God blessyour generous hearts.

Our Calendar Raffle begins on Sunday Oct 1. As I mentioned on another occasion, this is a greatopportunity to help our community and have fun at the same time. Thank you very much for yourparticipation in our Fund Raising. It is beautiful to see what we can do together as a community of faith.

Next weekend, September 30/October 1, we will have a second collection to help those affected by theHurricane Harvey. This collection was planned by the Bishop several weeks ago. Unfortunately, it hasbeen one natural disaster after another. Whatever we collect on that second collection, the parish willsend to the Diocese. Thank you for your generosity. I know we can only help a little bit, but I know theLord values our efforts and what we do for those in need.

God Bless you all,

Fr. Roberto
