The Ready Yeti Division 23 May 2013
The Official Newsletter of D23
Hello Fellow Yetis, My name is Mickey Rosal, and I am the newest
Lieutenant Governor for Division 23!
I go to Reed High School in Sparks, I am studying
Japanese, and my favorite Pokemon is Mudkip and Chi-
korita. I am really excited to serve you all as the LTG,
because I know we will have a great year. I have met
most of my officers, and let me say I am really happy
knowing I get to work with an amazing group of indi-
viduals.
As the biggest division in all of the Cali-Nev-Ha
District, I know it will not be easy, but I am confident
we will succeed and be the division to watch for. I am
also confident we will win every award out there; which
is a lot!
My plan this year is to personally visit each club
and make sure that all 11 clubs are constantly updated
and included in everything we do. I also want to
strengthen the bond between clubs and turn us into a
strong group as a whole. I also want us all to go to Six
Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles with our Division
sister, Division 45, to celebrate a great year.
Thanks for reading and thank you for being part of
our team. I will work my hardest and make sure this is
the best Key Club year anyone has ever had.

April DCM/ Manzanita Park Clean-up
Hundreds of Kiwanis members (Key Club,
Circle K, Kiwanis, etc) swarmed to Manzanita
Park to give it the face lift it deserved. We did
everything from painting benches to pulling
weeds, raking leaves to laying down mulch. It
was anything but easy work, but we got the job
done and had fun doing it!
After the clean-up we were all treated to
a BBQ lunch consisting of burgers and hotdogs,
refreshing drinks, and Mickey’s cakepops!! The
cakepops helped beat the fatigue and gave us
the energy to continue.
Mickey’s first official DCM as LTG was a lot
of fun and it definitely helped bring our clubs
closer together. He handed out awards to
deserving clubs and kept everyone up-to-date
while discussing past and upcoming events for
Division 23. The ice breakers during the DCM
had us laughing for days! We played “Honey I
Love You,” “Your life in 30 seconds,” and many
more. Seeing the different personality of our di-
vision all laugh and come closer was definitely a
heart warming experience.

What is a DCM?
A DCM, or Division Council Meeting, is a monthly
meeting where all the clubs in our division come to-
gether to talk about past and upcoming events. We also
use this time to bond and become closer, and to also
Kiwanis Family Fun Fiesta
. The D23 Key Clubs in Reno/Sparks helped
the D23 Kiwanis clubs hold their annual Kiwanis
Family Fun Fiesta at Paradise park last April 27th.
Each Key Club helped run and operate their
own game for the kids to enjoy.
This free event brought hundreds of Kids to
Paradise park so they could play in carnival
style games and win awesome prizes and stick-
ers. If the kid earned 25 stickers they could ex-
change their sticker card for the big prize!
Hug High School worked the bean bag
toss, Wooster had the block throw, Reed did the
Hula Hoop Toss. North Valleys brought their
bucket toss game, and Sparks helped with the
pinwheels. Our Yeti made a guest appearance
at this event, along with Clifford the-big-red-
dog, and a pony.
Thank you to everyone who participated
in this event, it was definitely a fun one and it is
going in the scrapbook for sure.

May Banquet/ DCM
To commemorate our amazing 2012-2013 Key
Club Officers, Mickey and Bunny planned a great ban-
quet to end the year with a bang., and to start the next one
running. We played fun games, ate great food, and made
new friends!
The Circle K of UNR were are special guest speak-
ers at our DCM. They did a very informative presentation
about What is Circle K. They all stayed for a portion of
the banquet and even played the Key Club Trivia game.
May 4th, 2013
The banquet was potluck style and let me say
we were up to our necks in food. Thank you everyone
who brought food! Congrats to team McSpanx for
winning the Key Club Trivia contest with way over
300 points!!

Albert Lowry Key Club
Distance is not an excuse for
this amazing club, located in the city of
Winnemucca, which is 166 miles away, the Lowry High
School Key Club proves that you do not need to be
physically close to do amazing amounts of service with
their division.
This club is club of the month for March because
they have accumulated the most volunteer hours per
member out of all 11 clubs in our division! This goes to
show that they are capable of finding their own events in
their community. They have also proved to be amazing
communicators by constantly keeping me updated with
their weekly club activities. Congratulations Lowry Key
Club! Please keep up the good work

Club of the Month: April
Procter Hug High School
As One of the most active
clubs Hug High School has proved their willing-
ness to serve their division. They literally attended
every past division event from February to May.
Their officers have the most persuasive personalities,
because they manage to bring huge amounts of
members to every event they attend. On top of
that their amazing secretary, Tania Gonzales, has
continuously turned in their MRF first, beating all ten
other clubs. This club is definitely one to watch for
and could easily be one of the few Diamond Distin-
guished Clubs in all of the CNH District!!
Thank you for your clubs amazing devotion to
our division! Please keep up the awesomeness!

Member of the Month: April
Magali Aquino-Ramirez
One of the most
active members in
our division. Magali
not only has been to
EVERY division event in
March, April, and May,
she is always early to
Every event. She is constantly getting on my case about why I am not there
before her. She makes me want to work harder and eventually hopefully
be at an event before her. Her dedication to our division is what boosted
her to becoming this month’s member of the month. Keep up the good
work! And watch yourself, I’m going to beat you one day!

Renown PTP Tour June 7th
Reno is blessed to have one the 6 hospitals in all of California, Nevada,
and Hawaii, that has its very own Pediatric Trauma Prevention (PTP) Center.
Renown is that hospital, and we are all going to take a tour of its incredible
facilities. The tour will include, but is not limited to, the Children’s Medical
Wing, the birthing areas, the baby environment simulator rooms, and of
course the PTP Center.
As you know we fundraise every year for PTP, it is one thing to donate,
but it is another thing to see where are funds go. I believe that by seeing
where are hard earned money goes will motivate us into working even
harder to raise more money.
This is a FREE tour and I am very happy D23 is blessed with such an
amazing opportunity like this.
Reno Relay for Life
June 22-23 @Reno High School
This 24-hour event (11AM to
11AM) is definitely one you will re-
member for years to come. This re-
lay event is to recognize all of the
cancer survivors in our community.
This year Division 23 is signing
up and forming a team. This won-
derful event will leave you breath-
less when you see the beautiful
candlelight visuals and great show
of support from everyone involved.
Every hour the themes
change, it could be anything from
Hawaiian Luau to the 1950’s, Pirates
to Fairy Tales, if it can be worn as a
costume it is probably a theme.
They also have fun hourly activities
like Zumba, bingo, scavenger hunts,
and so much more. So get with your
clubs and sign up now!

Let the 2013 Games
begin!! The Special Olympics of
Nevada opening ceremony. We
will get to watch the Special Olym-
pic torch get lit in preparation for
the 2013 Track and Field and Aqua
Games!
This is a very heartwarming
event, watching these handi-
capped people do regular Olym-
pic events is truly a sight to see. It
was definitely one of my favorite
events to take part in last year.
June 1st The Special Olympics is hold-
ing this year’s finals at UNR’s Mac-
kay Stadium, and we are given
the opportunity to help with this in-
spiring event.
We will be put in to two
groups: Track and Field and Swim.
Members on the track will help put
racers in their spot, record times,
hand out drinks, and much more.
The members in the pool will get to
record times, hand out towels,
place racers in their spots, etc.
Free food for all volunteers!
Holla!!
