Our Halloween Party will be the first Ceilidh of the year. It’s always fun to see our friends in costumes marching around the floor in our Costume Contest. I want to thank the Board of Directors for their con-tinued work during the summer. Board Meetings, the Orange Festival, clean ups and several other events that occurred. We continue to work year-round for your benefit. We are constantly striving to find ways to keep our or-ganization alive. We can-not do this alone. There needs to be an understand-ing that costs have gone up and income has gone down. I firmly believe that with your help we can continue to promote our traditions
and heritage to those who are looking for the oppor-tunity and by doing this there will be a time when the younger generation we teach now will be in the same position in the future and teach their younger generation. Finally, I want to share with you how deeply I feel Dee’s departure. She was always at my side, some-times smiling and some-times frowning over some-thing I did or said. Her guidance through the years has helped me be the kind of President the SAS will benefit from. I will always feel her at my side. Remember-Looking into our past is preserving our future. Warmly, Diane
She gave selflessly of her-
self every time we have
needed a hand even if she
was not in agreement with
changes that were happen-
ing around her. Always the
trooper.
She will forever be our
Boogie Woogie Choo-Choo
leading line dances at our
Friday night Ceilidhs.
She donated all her line
dance proceeds to the
betterment of the SAS.
Greetings from the President

Volume II, Issue VIII 2016-17 Issue: October 2017 Editor: Patte Plount
Well, the sum-mer wind came blowing in for sure. An unwel-come guest by the name of Irma came
through and wreaked havoc on our beautiful city. How-ever, our Historic Scottish Hall made it through with minor dents. I am looking forward to wel-coming all of you back soon. We have a full Calendar of Events and we plan to add to our activities as we move along. Make your plans now to attend our annual dinners. Friday Nights are a wonder-ful way to spend time with friends and meet new peo-ple. Remember to wear tar-tan with pride on the First Friday of each month.

She led the Hunt for Haggis
each year for Robbie Burns
Supper, managed the ven-
dors for the Highland
Games and touched each
heart that crossed her path
and made every moment
count.
To you my dear..Peace!

For many years she has
graced our walls in her proud
Scottish Tartan, striking blue
of her eyes and her unmis-
takable Auburn/Red locks.
Dee has been president of
this organization more than
any other individual over the
past 37 years. she stood in
when no one else would.
On September 14th 2017, the
SAS officially became a 501(C)
3 organization, retroactive to
May 2017.
We are also officially listed as
a Charitable Entity and are
eligible for a multitude of
Grants and special programs.
What this means further will
be discussed at the first Gen-
eral Meeting.
Last year we did quite well at the
event with new members as well
as volunteers. This year we got
one new member, and raffled off a
heck of a gift basket
We thank everyone that helped out
for the event, especially, Mary
Sloan, and Becky for helping set
up, Dave Stewart and Ray South-
worth for striking and storing our
equipment until the following
Monday.
July 8th 2017. The SAS, NWC, the
Dunedin Scottish Arts Foundation
and the Dunedin Youth Guild each
had a booth at the festival. The
committee placed all of our tents in
the same location.

days. First Responders and
City workers were on the clock
24/7. The owner of Caledonia,
contacted Diane, our hall suf-
fered a pipe break and water
was spewing all over the day of
evacuation, Ken Giesow con-
tacted the City, they immedi-
ately came to our aid even as
in demand as they were.
This was SAS’s way to say

IT’s OFFICIAL!
After 12 years of renting our hall the Clear-water Friends have made a move. They needed a space with two rooms, they sent a very nice thank you letter that Diane will share with you at the first General Meeting.
However, we have been actively working on methods to bring more renters into our walls. The 501(C)3 will help. Monies will be able to be obtained from other re-sources to help with maintenance and up-grades. We have begun an upgrade of our media in hopes of attracting renters that
have a need for the technology, which now is just about everyone.
For 1/3rd of the cost, we added a 40” flat screen TV and DVD player which have been mounted and are opera-tional. The installation was done by Ken Giesow and Patte Plount.
Of course these items are for use for the SAS as well….for instance, a movie night, live stream Scottish Events such as Piping Competition or the Tatoo. Memorial tributes to those that have passed on, simply or stream Entertain-ment, Music, or Karoke from YouTube.

NOVEMBER 2017
Rent Historic Scottish Hall
The Board of Directors made changes
to hall rentals.
We have increased the rate for outside
organizations to help keep up with
other rentals in the area, but we are
still below the competition.
We have also added a media entice-
ment that will allow groups who
would like technology such as power
point, or a
DVD to play.
The rates adjust if the organizations
are non-profits, and also members or
for members in need of a event associ-
ated with a funeral.
Anyone interested in booking an
event please contact Pres. Diane
Burke for specifics. 727-734-0757.

Welcome back. There is not
much to do as newsletter
editor in summer, but I have
been busy. Taking pictures
as well as joining in all the
summer events that have
taken place, working on the
books, the City Grant, and
the 501(C)3.
There is a big responsibility
taking care of a building
that many may not think
about. i.e. Early in the sum-
mer we scheduled a day to
clean out the closet where
the chairs and tables are

Thanks to the assistance of
many members, Margaret W
and Margaret G, Dave Stew-
art, Diane Burke, Allan Roth,
Ken Giesow and me, in May
we got the main storage torn
apart, purged and re-
arranged the items so that we
know what we have and it is
now labeled. It was amazing
to find out just how much
room we really have.
August 12th, we had a Kitchen
clean out. Again, we had,
Margaret W, Ellen McCabe,
Evelyn Greco, Dave Stewart,
Diane Burke, me and some
others who were not mem-
bers. We purged and rear-
ranged the kitchen closet and
both refrigerators were
cleaned out completely.
None of this would take place
without the dedication of
Diane Burke. She is the one
that schedules, arranges and
makes sure each and every-
thing happens. There are also
things that need to be at-
tended to on the interior, i.e.
a/c, plumbing, electrical, bat-
teries, pest control, as well
carpet and floor.
We really need some help
however, currently we have a
cost associated with the up-
keep formerly done by trus-
tees, we currently have none.
Let’s talk at the General meet-
ing!!!!!!! Slainte’
