Raine’s Table Tennis in Tower Hamlets Clean Sweep

In January 2016 we took our table tennis teams to the Borough Championships at Morpeth School. Several other schools from the Bor-ough were involved. Raine’s entered 4 age groups – U13 & U15 boys and U13 & U15 girls. Needless to say that Raine’s Foundation had a ‘clean sweep’ on all levels and are now the undisputed Champions of Tower Hamlets Borough – winning every event without losing a single game.

My name is Laurent Irish and I am the Head Bas-ketball Coach at Raine’s Foundation School. Since starting in February 2014 with Greenhouse, and help of the PE depart-ment and schoolteachers, I have put in place a School Basketball Pro-gramme. We currently have 6 Basketball teams, 4 Boys and 2 girls. Due to Raines students showing such a big interest in the basketball programme,

myself with the Green-house charity provided the students with free basketball tickets to watch The London Lions—of whom I currently coach. The students and teach-ers had a great time and got the chance to see London’s only profession-al basketball team. As well as successfully running the basketball teams we have intro-duced a Basketball

Breakfast club, which is currently running on Wednesday & Friday mornings. All Raine’s stu-dents are welcome to at-tend. We also run an everyday basketball break time club and a lunchtime club on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. as well as basket-ball sessions for all ages after School. Raine’s has a rich history of Basketball success and I am very committed to bringing suc-cess back to the School.

The Raine’s Y9 and 10 foot-ball teams joined forces to compete at the Tower Ham-lets Football tournament held at Hackney Marshes. Raine’s had a good start winning their first game, but stumbled in the next 2 drawing them both 0-0. Raine’s went through to the semi finals as the second placed team from the qualify-

ing group. Raine’s ended up losing 1-0 in a closely contested semi final against a strong Bishop Challoner side. Raine’s ended up 3rd in the Bor-ough overall.
