Hi!

I hope you and yours all had a fabulous Christmas and a great New Year.

What a year 2008 was for us!

We moved, Leah (our daugh-ter) got married on August 2 and the best news of all—she got her kidney transplant on September 16—a date that will never be forgotten in our home.

She is so well—we give thanks every day for the doc-tors and nurses who look af-ter her so capably but also to the family who made the very tough decision to donate their loved one’s organs. A life changing decision and a very precious gift indeed.

So on to 2009.

What’s happening this year?

Lots of new and exciting classes coming up

Lots of visiting tutors.

To start us off this year, we have Sue Spargo coming in April all the way from USA.

In June, we are so very pleased to be able to an-nounce that Robyn Pan-dolph is coming back to visit us. Robyn is designing a project for us, to be done in a 2 day workshop.

Also in June, Helan Pearce is returning to us after her year off. Helan has a new Santa in the making, a quilt done in velvets and silks, beading and lots more.

Later in the year, Robyn Alexander will be coming back to conduct a workshop for us.

So lots happening this year.

Grab a cuppa, put your feet up and as always, happy reading!

FRESH HOPE PATTERNS

The name Fresh Hope may be familiar to some of you as it is one of the charities we support through our charity quilt group. They also produce patterns—asking some of Australia’s best designers to design a pattern ex-clusively for them.

We are very proud that our own Donna Elkington has designed a quilt for Fresh Hope called On The Move—just perfect for little people particularly boys. Come and see the quilt in store along with all the Fresh Hope patterns we stock.

MACHINE BITS AND BOBS

We now have a limited range of sewing machine accessories—oil, bobbins to suit Pfaff, Janome and Bernina, and a walking foot for the Janome machine. We will from time to time increase the range where we see a demand and are able to source the items for you.

THREADWORX THREADS

I am currently increasing the range of our ThreadworX threads so that we carry all colours. They have all been ordered and are coming in as available. ThreadworX also overdye Kre-inik #4 and #8 braids in a lim-

ited range of colours. They are very yummy, easy to work with and we are carrying the full range of these.

PUFF or BISCUIT QUILTS

Do you remember these? I do vaguely (says she with her fin-gers crossed behind her back). Well they are back! And Clo-ver has produced a tool to make it easy to produce these little puffs. They are available in two sizes—1.5” or 2.5” finished. We have them in stock now.

BEATRIX POTTER

We have Beatrix Potter eve-rywhere—cloth books, cot-ton fabric, flannel fabric, cross stitch charts and kits. These are perennial favourites with young and old alike. My daughters still love their Beatrix Potter initials that I did for them when they were young.

MACHINGERS QUILTING GLOVES

These fit well and are very handy if you have trouble gripping your quilt whilst quilting. The coating is only on the fingertops so that the palms of your hand breathe easily. Come and try them.

SUE SPARGO We are very pleased that Sue will be coming to visit with us. This is her only stop in Queensland on her Australian tour. She will be with us for 3 days, doing a 1 day class and a 2 day class. There will be some preparatory work before the classes. Numbers are limited. Don’t wait to book—this will fill fast!

Sue’s approach is to guide rather than teach. She likes to share her accumulated ex-perience, pass on the many techniques and tips and she gains the greatest satisfaction from helping people find and act on their own creative ideas.

People invariably take home a one-of-a-kind piece, many new techniques and often some new and wonderful friends.

Sue likes to work not only in cotton but also in wool and silk. Embellishments are important in her work. So if you’ve been looking for an excuse to use those bits and pieces that you collect, to try your hand at new techniques, to introduce other fab-rics into your work, then don’t miss this unique opportunity to participate in Sue’s classes right here in your own back yard.

Sue has designed two new projects to teach here in Australia—we will be amongst the first to see them.

ALTERED TEXTURE

This is a 1 day class. Bring along your appliquéd block and Sue will show you how to embellish and alter the texture, look and feel of your block, bringing it to life. You will use threads, fabrics, ribbons, silk, velvet and more to enhance your original ap-pliqué.

Cost $110*

HOUSE QUILT

This is a 2 day class. This is a new quilt that is first being taught here in Australia. It is a medallion style quilt, using all types of fabrics—cotton, wool, silk, etc with ac-cents such as ric rac, beads and more for added depth and dimension.

Cost $220* for 2 days

ROBYN PANDOLPH Quilter, designer, author, teacher, and mother, Robyn Pandolph came to the quilting world in a modest way. Like many of us, she grew up with a mother and grand-mother who quilted and sewed, and she always had an interest in fabrics and design. Her life really changed in 1997 when she brought her Folk Art Wedding Quilt to In-ternational Quilt Market in Houston. With her soft pastel colors, and original folk art hand-appliqué, Robyn took the quilting world by storm. A successful fabric de-signer for over 10 years now, Robyn is the quintessential creator of sophisticated flo-ral romance.

Robyn is coming back to visit us and we are thrilled to have her back. Her classes filled very quickly last time so make sure to get in early—you don’t want to miss out on this one. Robyn is doing a two day workshop for us. Robyn hand appliqués for 6 to 8 hours per day—so if anyone knows how to hand appliqué, how to make it easy and fun, then this is the lady.

CREATING YOUR OWN FOLK ART APPLIQUE

Robyn will design a project that will suit our two day class. This design will be for students of this class only. The workshop is for all levels of appliqué students from just thinking about appliqué to expert at appliqué. The first day will include design technique, fabric and color selection, must have tools to make appliqué as effortless as possible, and a step by step instructional time on the preparation and application of needle-turn appliqué. The second day will be working further on the design and extending your appliqué skills, with more one-on-one time for appliqué technique instruction. Robyn will teach the most simple, effective way to appliqué while de-bunking the “rules” of appliqué. This workshop will eliminate the fear of appliqué and will take it off your ‘four letter word’ vocabulary list.
