It was a great display thank you, Jeanette. Thank you too for all the pieces provided for the display in the Richmond library. This display goes up on 2 nd August and will be there for a month so do call in and have a look if you are in Richmond. It is all good publicity for WAW which is fast approaching. If you haven’t got your registration in for that, then get on to it! The last I heard there were close to 90 registrations which is just wonderful. The WAW committee is to be commended. What else is happening in our Guild? The ‘beetle’ workshop tutored by Kaye seems to have been a great success maybe there will be lots of beetles on the Show and Tell table this month! There will be a Shadow- work session at Broadgreen Stitch’n’ Chat on Saturday 5 th , and a new monthly project starting this month at our general meeting, Kogin Japanese Darning. We also have decorations to make for the Cathedral Christmas tree and Christmas Decoration Day to look forward to on November 11 th , so there won’t be many idle hands. The September meeting is our AGM. We need to reinstate the ‘3 year rule’ (see Minutes of July 12 th meeting) and think about nominations for positions on the committee. Margaret will have all the appropriate paper work at our August meeting. In the meantime keep warm and, Happy stitching Catherine 1. The committee are working hard to finalise all the material needed for the registration book, to be issued with Threads in October. We are also finalising the contract with our awards dinner contractor, the requirements for the merchants’ mall and submitting sponsorship applications. Paula and Annette attended the Bella Lane workshop in Christchurch and used the opportunity to market the conference to attendees from other guilds.

The committee encourages as many members for Nelson Guild to work on pieces for the exhibition. Even if you end up not submitting, working on doing something of your own is a wonderful learning opportunity. We cannot accept submissions of work done in classes or kits, but you can submit pieces that have been inspired by classes and kits that you have done in the past. Don't worry if you cannot draw, with cunning use of tracing paper, graph paper and colour pencils you can create cross stitch motifs. It is very easy to use a photo copier to enlarge, reduce or mirror image drawings and from there you can pick out portions to make a simple outline to make into a motif. Those with computers may like to delve into the Antique Pattern Library for images that are in the public domain to use as a starting point for a new design. Annette Garcia

Library News The resources that we hold in the Library are: Lightbox, cord maker, slate frame, smocking frame and the directory for the portfolio books. If you would like to borrow any of these please just ask or ring me and reserve the article/machine. The next Impressions is available this month. If you look on the Guild website and find a book you would like to borrow but cannot find it in the Library cupboard, I can also reserve this for you. It is time to look out the books you have borrowed and return them at the meeting. Books are generally on loan for one month. I know it is easy to misplace books, however an extra wee look would be helpful to me. Thank you to all for your support Helen MacKenzie Ph: 544 5613 / [email protected] 8 Holdaway Grove, Richmond

Articles Wanted for October Threads Magazine Kate Ireland, Threads Editor, is looking for members who have an interesting embroidery story to tell. In fact almost anything that you feel people would like to read about! It could be embroidery travel, an interesting class you have attended, a local exhibition... This is your magazine so it would be wonderful for members to help contribute to this very successful magazine. The deadline for the October magazine is looming so send your written piece rather ‘soonish’ to Kate at [email protected]

WANTED The committee would like to hear from anyone who has ideas on what our Guild Exhibition piece at Conference 2018 could be. Remember for the last Conference(2016) we did those amazing ‘fish’? They just looked fabulous. So we need ideas and also someone who is willing to take charge and steer this project to completion. Please contact a committee member.

Monthly Project Now that the Drawn Thread projects have come to an end we have another project to keep you busy. This time it is using the technique called Kogin Japanese Darning - it can be made into a bag if you wish. It is worked on 16 count Aida which you can get in different colours. There was a clipboard at the July meeting for those wanting to receive the pattern – if you forgot, have since changed your mind or have just read about it and are keen to do this project please ring Margaret York (986 0079) so further copies can be printed and ready for you at the August meeting.

End of Year Financial Statements for ANZEG & Threads These statements have been emailed along with this newsletter. If your newsletter is hand delivered and you would like to see these financial statements, then please contact me and I will get these printed off for you. Ph 5466236 (Sheryl)
