Wine Down
Wine DownA taste of Italy comes to
Cambridge Square in Ooltewah9431 Bradmore Ln., Ste 109
Ooltewah, TN(423) 531-WINE
winedownbar.com
A philospher once said that they key to happiness is to live your dream, no matter what that dream may be. “We have a photo hanging over the bar that shows me at a vineyard in Sonoma,” says Wine Down owner Marcus Garner. “Every time I look at that picture it re-minds me I’m living my dream, right here in Ooltewah.”
Garner and his wife Georgia look to bring some of that countryside vineyard vibe to Cambridge Square in Ooltewah with Wine Down. The square’s Spanish and Italian architecture provide a perfect setting for the wine bar and gastropub.
“We wanted to bring a quaint, intimate setting here,” he says. “We recently returned from the Napa Valley and found we related more to the smaller win-eries than the larger ones.” Dealing with the smaller wineries allows Garner to bring in some vintages the big wineries cannot offer. “It really gets down to being more creative and gives me more freedom,” he says.
Garner moved to Ooltewah a few years ago, ac-cepting the position of general manager at Hennen’s downtown. With the explosion of homeowners in the area, Garner felt he could fill a void in the local mar-ket. “Lots of my customers don’t want to drive to the Hamilton Place area,” he says “Especially when a complex like Cambridge Square can offer dining and entertainment so close by.”
Look for a casual, relaxed environment. “It is our goal for everyone to feel comfortable and enjoy Wine Down. You will be greeted by our attentive staff wear-ing their 'Wine Down' T-shirts. Once our clients are
seated, they will immediately start to relax in our rus-tic, comfortable space,” Garner says.
Asked if a wine bar is too intimidating for the Ooltewah area, Garner says he is ready to erase the stigma of a 'wine bar.' “We are the opposite of preten-tious and highbrow,” he says. From the novice wine drinker that wants to learn more or just enjoy a glass of wine, to the experienced wine connoisseur, Garner wants to share his love of wine with others through regular tastings and special events.
Meat, cheese and wine pairings add to the country-side feel of Wine Down. High-end spirits, high-gravity beers and handmade cocktails will also be a staple at the bar. They also feature a seasonal menu of share-able appetizers, sandwiches and salads.
Garner hopes the atmosphere will encourage peo-ple to stop in after work or take an evening to taste and pair wine with his unique menu offerings. Truffle Fries and a Charcuterie Board stick out as distinct cu-linary selections.
“We have lived all over the United States but now want to settle down,” says Garner. He and his wife are the proud parents of 4-year-old Jacob. “We want to build relationships and foster the community. We feature local art in the restaurant and encourage any-one to learn more about the cool, ever-growing wine scene.”
Wine Down has recently expanded its hours to in-clude lunch, along with a Sunday brunch featuring a special food and cocktail menu.

The Acropolis
The Acropolis has been around for 20 years, but they are far from lagging behind. Just last year, they remodeled their bar and patio to in-clude more seating and welcome a number of new menu options. The bar is well stocked with a variety of drinks tailored to fit in with the high-quality Mediterranean menu. They’ve added ten draft beers to the menu, eight of which come from breweries in the Chattanooga and Atlanta areas, and they’re excited to show off not only beer choices, but the variety of cocktails available as well.
The new bar continues a tradition started by the restaurant itself—a com-mitment to local loyalties and to the uniqueness that comes from being a small business with the abil-ity to understand the lo-cal crowd. The Acropolis is one-of-a-kind, and they take pride in providing the best possible experience.
“We’ve taken what’s already Mediterranean Greek and applied it to a bar,” says owner Nick Kyriakidis. “The bar com-plements the food and the atmosphere.” And it cer-tainly does. The bar itself fits seamlessly into the res-taurant and completes the relaxed, authentic feel of the space. There’s plenty of crossover between the two areas; delicious Greek appetizers are served right alongside the drink op-
tions. They’re well set for a great run,
and there are already a number of specials to take advantage of. In ad-dition to their Happy Hour (3 p.m. – 7 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends), the menu fea-tures a number of weekly specials. On “Martini Mondays” you can get special martinis for $5, and “Wine Down Wednesdays” have $10 san-gria pitchers and $12 bottles of wine. With options like these, even the regulars may be surprised to find that the bar is their new favorite part of a restaurant they already love.
Celebrate Life. Drink Well.

Southern Burger Co.In the past few years, artisan burgers have
become something of a cultural phenomenon in Chattanooga. This fabulous trend in culi-nary art is partially a result of the hard work and determination of Christian Siler, owner of Southern Burger.
Back in 2010, Christian began to tickle the taste buds with his Southern Burger food truck, supplying downtown with “the meanest gourmet burgers the streets of Chattanooga have ever seen.” Since then, his enterprise has blossomed into a full restaurant in Ooltewah, where they take the art of the burger very seriously.
Southern Burger compares their sandwich-es to poetry, saying that “A good burger has a lot in common with a sonnet. Each has a set structure to support almost infinite creativity. In a burger’s case you start with two buns, a patty and the toppings. In a sonnet’s case you start with a set rhyme scheme and number of
stanzas. Where you take your burger or your poem from there is up to you.”
If you like hand-crafted burgers and craft beers, this restaurant will blow your mind. Every item on their menu is made from lo-cally and regionally sourced products; they even make their own ketchup (five gallons of it every week). They grind their own beef and serve it on a Niedlov’s bun. They use Duke’s mayonnaise, Wickle’s pickles, Red Oak lettuce, and kale from Fall Creek Farms.
Furthermore, all of their sauces are made in-house: mustard, ranch, buffalo ranch, cur-ry ketchup, Southern sauce, Bacon Jam and Habanero Jam. Their fries are hand cut, and their milkshakes are hand dipped.
There’s nothing quite like enjoying a deli-cious milkshake made from local milk after devouring a majestic artisan burger and fries.
Though a craft beer works just as well.

Lookout Winery
Wine tasting can be a stressful experience. You wonder whether or not you look like you know what you’re doing, swirling your wine and sniffing it before you sip, as the tast-ing consultant watches you intently. It shouldn’t be like that, and at Look-out Winery, it’s the exact opposite. “It’s not about being a wine snob,” says owner Chuck Bordogna. “It’s about finding what you like.”
A comfortable atmosphere wel-comes you to try new wines you wouldn’t normally consider. The fa-vorite? Buttery Chardonnay. Com-bined with the imported cheeses on a pizza pie, it’s the perfect accent to an already incredible meal. Lookout Winery’s wine tasting comes with a scorecard so you can track your fa-vorite wines. When you’ve finished the tasting and have settled on a wine, your bartender will suggest the perfect pizza to pair with it.
Rieslings with a tang of green apple, Zinfandels with hints of hints of strawberry and mostly raspberry
flavor, and Gewurztraminers that go hand in hand with spicy pies—these are some of the unique Bordogna handcrafted wines.
The Bordogna Family has been perfecting wine since their time in Italy, before WWI gained owner Chuck Bordogna’s grandfather citi-zenship in America. “We make it the Italian way, the natural way; with gravity,” Chuck says. “You can’t have a true Italian experience if the wine isn’t made like they do in Italy.”
At Lookout Winery, it’s all about the experience, and it’s a special one. From the view overlooking the Tennessee River, to the aroma of fresh pizza pies baking in their wood-fired oven, a trip to Lookout Winery is a sensory experience in more ways than one.
But the most important sense sat-isfied here? Taste. Taste the wine, taste the pizza and save yourself a trip to Italy by immersing yourself in the Italian atmosphere of Lookout Winery.
We want to create long-lasting memories in every bite of our wood-fired pizza, every sip of our hand-
crafted wines, while you are enjoying the natural setting that the views over Tenneessee River can
afford. We hope your experience at our winery will become one of those special moments for you to
remember the rest of your life!

Sky ZooThere was time when, if you wanted to watch
sports with your buddies, you went to a sports bar. If you wanted to shoot some pool, you went to a pool hall. If you wanted to go dancing, you went to a night club. If you wanted to hear live music, you had to find somewhere with a stage. If you wanted to do any combination of those things, then you had to drive all over town, an inconvenient prospect at best.
Now there’s Sky Zoo, a playground for adults where virtually all your favorite activities can be found under one roof.
Located at 5709 Lee Highway, Sky Zoo of-fers a little bit of everything. The first thing you’ll notice is the biggest deck in the city, providing plenty of outdoor seating for enjoying the crisp, fall weather with an adult beverage and a few friends.
The front lounge has a variety of golf and hunt-ing-themed video games as well as a wall of dart boards (Sky Zoo hosts league play and blind
draws). A full-service bar is located here as well with plenty of seating. Past the lounge, Sky Zoo features its nightclub area, where DJs, dancing, and karaoke happen. Another full-service bar and a state-of-the-art lighting and sound system complete the area.
The back room at Sky Zoo is where you will find the stage for live performances, pool tables (Sky Zoo hosts league play), ANOTHER full ser-vice bar, plenty of seating and a jukebox. No matter where you are in the complex, you can order a wide variety of traditional favorites from the kitchen.
Sky Zoo has a large menu to accommodate most any taste. Fried green tomatoes, nachos, burgers, sandwiches, salads, pizzas and much more are available at prices that beat most any other venue in town.
With great food, great drinks, great prices and an arsenal of entertainment, Sky Zoo is your one-stop shop for adult leisure and recreation.

Chattanooga Brewing Co.Since 2006, the 100-year-old Chattanooga
Brewery has been rebuilt from the ground up by a passionate and dedicated team of brew-ers and beer drinkers. Their current location, on Chestnut Street by Finley Stadium, features a brewing area in the back built almost entirely by hand, and every beer they serve has been crafted and aged on site.
Their goal—aside from making high-quality beer—is to change the way people think about drinking. To them, beer shouldn’t just be guzzled for its effects, so they aim to make alcohol drink-ers can savor. While they do serve food, they try to keep their menu simple so they can concen-trate on the all-important beer list. To top it off, both the brewers and the servers are committed to providing a positive, responsible atmosphere in the bar.
This year, Chattanooga Brewing Co. is espe-cially excited to add their fall beers to the menu alongside staples like their Imperial Pilsner and
Chestnut Street Brown Ale. Their lovingly crafted Oktoberfest is already coming in, but they’ve also got something a little out of the ordinary: What they’re calling “Oaktoberfest,” a beer aged in whiskey barrels, courtesy of their bud-ding relationship with Chattanooga Whiskey. They’ll start serving it in early October, and it’s sure to be worth the wait.
If great beer isn’t enough, they’ve also got a packed itinerary of weekly activities. Tuesday nights are Brewga nights, when $10 will get you a pint and a yoga class in the loft portion of the bar. Wednesdays are the age-old classic—trivia.
The best way to keep up with everything hap-pening—and find out the daily specials—is to vis-it chattabrew.com or follow them on Facebook.
OKTOBERFEST
It’s the Most Wonderful

FOR BEER!
Time of the Year

You’re probably al-ready heading to Blue-water Grille, looking for-ward, perhaps, to Crispy Crab Risotto Fritters and the Hazelnut Goat Cheese Mahi.
Let’s add a few ways to increase your antici-pation of a great meal: great drink choices.
It’s fall, and that means the special Oktoberfest beer, brewed right next door at Big River Brewing Company, is on tap.
This year, says Group Sales Manager Bailey Meredith, “It’s a German-style beer, very malt for-ward, and delicate on the hops. The best way to describe it is that it’s on the lighter side of amber beer.”
The Oktoberfest brew is only available until it runs out, but will be fea-tured in Bluewater Grille’s flights of beer, which include 6-8 different samples of what’s on tap.
Say you’re a whiskey fancier (and who isn’t?). Bluewater is featuring its very popular Whiskey Ginger Smash cocktail, made with Chatta-nooga Whiskey (pictured with bar-tender Mikenzy Smith). That’s just one of the many specialty cocktails their master bartenders can whip up. Another, created for the delights of autumn is the Pumpkin Martini, made with Kahlua, Stoli Vanil Vod-ka, heavy cream, pumpkin liqueur and a sprinkling of nutmeg. Yum!
Bluewater Grille offers Happy Hour 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with $2 off draft beer, $2 off wine and $6 for specialty cocktails. They have a full bar, tended by the mixmasters mentioned above, so our suggestion is to come in early and enjoy a beverage in the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere before your meal.
Bailey Meredith told us that all the special fall-themed drinks are cre-ated with the same care and flair that trademark Bluewater Grille and have since it opened in 2006. So what are you waiting for?

212 Market RestaurantAs fall creeps closer, the tastes that come with
it will return once again. Soon, it’ll be pumpkin spiced everything, but for 212 Market, summer isn’t over yet—not without a toast. Their “End of Summer” cocktail will bring those warm summer days swimming back, at least until you reach the bottom of the glass.
An establishment that prides itself on buying lo-cal, 212 Market has been “green” for years, “long before it was the cool thing to do,” owner Sally Moses says. They pride themselves on using only fresh juices as well as being particular about li-quors. While they have the major brands, “We like to use local brands,” Sally says, one being Pickers vodka from Nashville. Pickers Blueberry Vodka is the key ingredient in 212’s “End of Summer” cock-tail. Lemonade, made with fresh lemon, apples, and blueberries, Pickers Blueberry Vodka and a lemon garnish come together in a sweet, but tangy refresher that could only be better if it were being drunk in a hammock.
While everything’s better in a hammock, the bar at 212 Market’s bar is nearly as relaxing. “We’re a Cheers-y type of place,” Sally says as she points to a small plaque underneath the lip of the bar. It says, “Remembering Joe Lewis,” in honor of a customer who always sat in the same seat. It’s a place that welcomes anyone, even if they don’t yet know your name. If you’ve yet to stop at their
bar, try “The Euro” when you do. A classic drink made with herb-infused liquors, “The Euro” is like an herbal tea but with more self-confidence. More of a wine person? 212 Market has been a winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 1999, and has a list of more than 100 different wines. No matter your taste, 212 Market is sure to have something that’ll brighten your spirits.

Terminal Brewhouse
Terminal BrewhouseEverything's better with craft beer. Everything.
6 E 14th St.(423) 752-8090
terminalbrewhouse.com
Chances are you fall into one of two camps. You ei-ther love the Terminal BrewHouse or you haven’t been there yet. It’s really that simple. Matt Lewis, along with partners Ryan Chilcoat and Geoff Tarr, practically grew up in the Chattanooga restaurant business. So they pretty much know what ‘Noogans like when they go out for a meal and a drink.
The trio found a very unique building next to the Chattanooga Choo Choo back in 2008. The building was on the verge of being condemned, but with nine months of hard work and imagination, they transformed the dump into a diamond. Occupying three floors, the Terminal BrewHouse has seating for couples as well as for large parties. The second floor has patio seating outside and the third floor, while usually reserved for large private parties, is often pressed into use as over-flow seating for the wildly popular eatery.
The menu is as unique as the building. The offerings display a wicked sense of humor with items like Twisted Hummmmmmmmmus, described as a garbonzo mix-ture tweaked out with black bean and roasted pepper goodness. And there’s the BrewHouse Pot Roast Na-chos that were brought back “by popular (and angry) demand” after being dropped from the menu.
Matt Lewis admits that was a mistake he’s not likely to make again, although some variations of the menu do occasionally take place, but diner feedback is defi-nitely taken into consideration.
You’ll find a wide range of entrees, including pub-food staples like pizza, sandwiches and burgers (all with a Chattanooga twist) but also steak, meatloaf and
salmon. Oh, the salmon. Once again, the Terminal’s sense of humor comes out to play. Yosemite Salmon Cakes features cilantro, jalapeno, onion and BBQ ai-oli. Or how about Salmon Elliott, fresh salmon in their White Shadow Belgian Wit with fresh dill, lemon, and a touch of butter.
Other main dishes include Pepper Smashed Steak and Veggie Lasagna. Even something as normally mundane as meatloaf is not safe in the hands of the kitchen staff. Called Buffaloaf, it’s made with super lean bison meat, loaded with potatoes, mushrooms, peppers house spices, and topped with a balsamic glaze in-stead of ketchup.
The food is awesome, but it is the Terminal Brew-House. So as you might expect, there is a good variety of craft beers available. “For us, it’s about ‘casual’,” says Matt Lewis, “a neighborhood-style restaurant that also brews great beer in house.” To that end, the part-ners built a micro-brewery in the “basement.”
Lewis says his establishment is an “ale house,” and that they rarely brew lagers. Some of the offerings include The White Shadow, a Belgian Witbier, Southsidenstein, an oatmeal stout and one of their most popular brews, Rock Out with your Bock Out maibock.
Out of six taps, four pretty much stay the same all year. The other two tend to have seasonal brews for the adventurous palate. And if you’re really adventurous, you can come by on Weird Wednesdays, when they pull out the “Randall,” a device that infuses tap beer with additional flavors. This week, they were adding cranberries and oranges to the mix. Feeling frisky?
