Our Situation

An experienced policewoman, Nina Hobson, went undercover and gained unprecedented behind-the-scenes

access of police officers. Using secret cameras, she documented her encounters of the officers as they displayed

disturbing lack of respect for members of the public and numerous accounts of dereliction of duty.

Overall members of the community are outraged at such revelations shown in this video. The scandal has fumigated those in need of police officers, and also those who thought they were constantly being protected as they went about

living day to day in their communities.

Objectives

Our objective is to recover the reputation of the police department by proving the tremendous effort that so many officers put into protecting the life and property of citizens everywhere.

Strategy

Our strategy lies in demonstrating to the community that police departments across the world are committed to making a difference. They will attest to this by responding to and

supporting victims, working in partnership with citizens to meet the challenges of reducing

crime, creating a safer environment and improving our quality of life.

Tactics

Change our management to ensure that all practices and policies are consistent with the Department's community oriented policing and problem solving philosophy.

Use our relationship with the community to reduce the fear of crime. Enhancing our partnership with the community will make us responsive to employee needs, performance, and participation.

Train all department members with the latest community oriented policing and problem solving techniques, while simultaneously increasing our emphasis on crime prevention

Have checks to ensure the Department is being effective, using the appropriate resources, and establishing what needs to be assessed.

Our four main tactics are as follows:

Page 6: The Progressive, Proactive Police

Budgets

We will dig into the police departments additional funds in order to successfully enhance our management, further our

enhancement in the community and increase the amount of police training sessions.

Source Credibility

Another main goal of this campaign is to gain the trust of the community. In order to obtain this trust the police department’s will be hosting PR Campaigns in the heart of communities everywhere in which they themselves will be attending. We want the people to acknowledge that the police department is enforcing changes and have a strong desire to improve for the sake of the people.

Cognitive Dissonance

We realize that often times many police officers obtain the reputation of being dishonest and violent, yet we plan on eradicating

this rumor by going out in the community and giving the people a change to actually meet these officers. At this time, they will be able to ask them any questions they may have and simply communicate

with the men who are protecting them day to day.

The flow of Opinion

Not everyone in the community shares the same common places, therefore we will be informing the community of the changes taking place with the police department in the following ways :

Displaying our campaign in newspapers

Hosting our “meet the officer” events in the middle of town.

Creating commercials both on the radio and on TV

Posting flyers around the community (in stores, on trees, in schools)

Suggestions for ActionWe feel that getting the police officers out in the community will be

proof that this matter is being taken seriously. It is not just a headline on a sign, or an agreement to sign up for. Instead, it is

something that only their presence will justify. By simply attending, and listening, the community will then find out that the police have a new and improved way of going about their duty that

they want to share with the community.

Evaluation

After one calendar year we will meet internally as a police department and check to see if all of the tactics have been met

We will also send out survey’s to the communities asking if they have seen any improvements, and/or obvious enhancements in the duty of the policemen. This will give us the opportunity to see whether or not our campaign was successful.
