TIM KELLERWe have this story...so that we have some true human understanding of what the Father did with the Son.

BY FAITHBy faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”

Page 23: The present(24 11-13)

BY FAITHAbraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.

Hebrews 11:17-19

TRUSTTrust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

TIM KELLERNow I know that you love me, because you did not withhold your only son from me.”

Page 26: The present(24 11-13)

TIM KELLERBut how much more can we look at his sacrifice on the cross and say to God, “Now we know that you love us. For you did not withhold your son, your only son, whom you love, from us.

Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see.

It was their faith that made our ancestors pleasing to God.

Page 29: The present(24 11-13)

Abraham had faith and obeyed God. He was told to go to the land that God had said would be his, and he left for a country he had never seen.

Page 30: The present(24 11-13)

Because Abraham had faith, he lived as a stranger in the promised land.

Abraham did this, because he was waiting for the eternal city that God had planned and built.

Page 31: The present(24 11-13)

Even when Sarah was too old to have children, she had faith that God would do what he had promised, and she had a son.

Her husband Abraham was almost dead, but he became the ancestor of many people.

Page 32: The present(24 11-13)

Abraham had been promised that Isaac, his only son, would continue his family.

But when Abraham was tested, he had faith and was willing to sacrifice Isaac, because he was sure that God could raise people to life.

Page 33: The present(24 11-13)

Such a large crowd of witnesses is all around us! So we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won’t let go. And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us. We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete.

Page 34: The present(24 11-13)

Father fix our eyes on Jesus, our substitute sacrifice

Jesus, complete our faith so that we can lay our whole lives down before you as our sacrifice

Amen
