“Things The Bible Does Not Say”
Is Our Lenten Theme For 2018
Have you ever heard the phrase, “God
helps those who help themselves” or “Love the sin-
ner, hate the sin”. They sound good and have
some truth to them. However is that really the Bib-
lical message? The theme this year for our Lenten
mid-week series is “Things The Bible Does Not
Say”.
We will be gathering at 6 pm on Wednes-
day’s starting on February 21 and we will gather for
five consecutive weeks. We will meet down in the
fellowship hall first for a simple meal provided by
the confirmation families. Then we will worship to-
gether and celebrate Holy Communion. There will
be a short video in the middle of worship followed
by reflection and discussion time.
Lent is a special time of year when we focus
more closely on our faith and the ways we wander
from God’s vision for us. I hope you will join us for
these five Wednesday’s in Lent as we reflect on the
ideas that we have in our head that may not be bib-
lical. May God walk with you this Lenten season.
God’s blessings,
Pastor Larry

WISHING WELL FOR FEBRUARY – SELF-DENIAL COIN FOLDERS
Our Wishing Well for the month of February is focusing and encouraging us to reach out and
to help others in a variety of ways. This can be done by placing a quarter a day in your
Lenten Self-Denial Coin Folder which is being mailed to you if you have not yet received it.
Through this collection we are able to share with others that which the Lord as asked us to
do “…this do in remembrance of me.” The monies received for Lent, Self-Denial and Ash
Wednesday will be donated to area missions. The DMLC Outreach Team once a year deter-
mines the recipients of these monetary donations. This year we were pleased to donate to
the following:
Angels Grace, BAGS, Family Promise, Lake Area Free Clinic, Lutherdale Camp, Oconomowoc Food Pantry,
Outreach for Hope, Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, St. Ben’s turkeys, and Tricia’s Troops Cancer Connection.
A new ministry has begun at DMLC! If you care to be a part of a new ministry starting soon, now is your chance. This
will consist of a group of volunteers who will meet about once a month to paint, polish, maintain, repair or just plain
clean this beautiful facility. Several of us have noticed that a little TLC (actually a lot) is in order. For more information
you may contact Bobbie, Pastor Larry or Dale Reich. Your attendance each month is not necessary to be part of Help-
ing Hands. Come when you can…you will always be appreciated no matter how much time you have to give. We are
looking for anyone who just wants to make our church a blessing to God and our community. The following have
shown interest and we can’t wait to see you: Gordon Fleury, Gary & Jodee Liedtke, Tom & Bobbie Dierbeck, Jake
Ligman, Joyce Bahr, Dick Zautner, Chuck Saeger, Dale Reich, Anita Lambert, Karen & Ken Ruehlow & Pastor Larry.
We would love to see this list grow. Please consider joining the fun!
ADVENT & CHRISTMAS DECORATORS:
Thank you once again to our church decorators. This group of volunteers works tirelessly to make sure that our Sanc-
tuary is so beautifully decorated during the Advent and Christmas season so that we may enjoy our Church home dur-
ing this most Holy of seasons. Please be sure to thank them for a job well done!! Diana & James Costigan, Al & Barb
Kloth, Carol Zeutzius, Gary & Jodee Liedtke, Dale Reich, and Tom & Bobbie Dierbeck.

Dr. Martin Luther Church
Council Meeting Minutes
January 18, 2018
5:30 PM Present: Dale Reich, Gordon Fleury, James Costigan, John Wick, Janet Kloss, Pastor Larry Harpster, Barb Dehnert, Heidi Teuteberg
1. Pastor Larry started the meeting with time for reflection on the love behind the gifts that we give and receive and the
significance of that in our giving.
2. Pastor led us in an opening prayer and the meeting was called to order by James.
3. The meeting agenda was reviewed. A motion was made by John to approve the agenda, Barb seconded and all
approved.
4. The minutes from the November meeting were reviewed. Pastor motioned to approve, Dale seconded and all ap-
proved.
5. John provided a summary of the December financial report. Congregational giving continued to be strong and sur-
passed expenses during December and for 2017. Gordon motioned to approve the report, Dale seconded and eve-
ryone approved.
6. A detailed review of the 2018 budget was made and questions were asked and answered. It is very similar to the
2017 budget. Pastor will be checking on one item with the Worship & Music Ministry and let the council know via
email of any changes that might be needed to this portion of the budget.
7. We have received a bid for Property and Casualty insurance from Church Mutual that will be approximately $1800
lower per year and provide better coverage. Pastor motioned to empower John to move forward with securing this
insurance policy when our current policy expires and Dale seconded the motion, all approved.
8. Seeds of Hope
a. There is a ground-breaking worship service being planned for May 6th to correspond with when construction
will begin. The Bishop will be in attendance. This will be a special service and celebration.
b. The target to complete construction is in October/November.
c. A meeting is planned to talk through the expansion with the closest church neighbors so they aren’t sur-
prised when the equipment and machinery arrives in May to start work.
9. The Lenten series “The Things the Bible Does Not Say” will be starting on Wednesday, February 21st. This will be
held in fellowship hall and the confirmation kids will be providing the meal for all in attendance.
10. The Helping Hands ministry will be meeting for the first time on Saturday, January 20th and their first mission will be
to clean-up paints in the storage area for doing touch-ups around the church.
11. Planning is in process for a new Church Directory. Gordon has recruited Leslie Boettcher and Barb Schenker to
work with him on this. They are reviewing proposals from multiple photographers. The tentative plan is to do this in
the Fall time frame.
12. Pastor Larry led us in a closing prayer. The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 PM.
13. Next meeting is Thursday, March 15, at 5:30 PM.
Respectfully submitted, Heidi Teuteberg, Secretary
