At the end of the program, students will have the opportunity to earn a certification as a Biomedical Assistant. Good luck to all my seniors as they enter the next chapter of their lives and I hope everyone has a safe and restful summer as we look forward to the 2014-2015 school year. A message from the President,

There is nothing more important for me to say right now than, “Thank You”.

An enormous Thank You to our sponsors - both long-standing and new. Your support is the rocket boost needed to achieve our goals in support of the CWMP program. We want you to know you are so appreciated. Special recognition goes to Morton Plant Mease, BayCare Health Systems, Roberts Printing in Palm Harbor and Dr. Julia Jenkins who have supported many PHUHS programs.

I want to thank the CWMP parents. This year in addition to our highest ever membership rate, we also had 100% parent participation in our Adopt-a-Teacher program. Because of you we had enough chaperones, cookies, gift cards and volunteers for every event we’ve held so far. You are the best and your involvement makes such a difference.

To the CWMP Booster Club Board that I am lucky enough to work with. You are the most hard-working, creative, generous, caring, dedicated forces to be reckoned with that anyone is lucky enough to volunteer with! I will never stop being thankful and amazed of you.

Last but not least, Staff Appreciation Week is May 12- 16th . This is the time for all of us to go the extra mile to make our teachers and the staff feel appreciated. The booster club is looking for donations of gift cards to give away to the teachers during their special luncheon celebration. Drop off your donated gift cards to the CWMP mailbox in the front office labeled “Teacher Appreciation”. We aim for every teacher to get one!

Don’t forget that the last CWMP parent meeting is May 13th at 6:30pm in the Teacher Auditorium. I hope to see you there.

Sincerely, Gina Kugler CWMP Booster Club President 2013/2014

P.S. Are you interested in being on the CWMP Booster Club Board next year or know someone who is? Email your nominations now to [email protected]. Position placements will be announced at the Parent Meeting May 13th.

CWMP recognizes our teachers for their outstanding work and dedication to our students and school.

Student Saves a Life

John Harcombe known as “Jack” saved his little cousin from drowning this past February. His little cousin was face down in a pool when Jack immediately started CPR. His cousin quickly responded and came to. Luckily, Jack had just finished the First Aid and CPR segment in Mrs. Ungs medical class.

Mrs. Ungs is so proud of her 10th grade CWMP students, especially when it reinforces life saving skills! Congratulations to Jack for using his CPR training and saving a life.

The Pulse is highlighting Brianna Paczynski, a senior in our medical magnet program. Brianna is a member of the Cross Country Team and Girls Track team.

Brianna performed her service hours at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary. She also took part on a mission trip and volunteered feeding the homeless.

Brianna will be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to study Human Factors and Psychology.

The Pulse: Is the Medical program what you expected it to be; is it harder or easier than anticipated? Brianna: The Medical program is much better than what I expected it to be. The program turned out to be easier than I originally anticipated and that is a good thing. I like being able to learn about the medical field and different careers that you might not necessarily hear about.. I also like going to classes with a majority of the same students. The Pulse: What is your favorite class? Brianna: My favorite class is any of the science classes, like Physics, Anatomy and Biology. The Pulse: What is your favorite elective? Brianna: I really enjoyed the Allied Health class my junior year because it was great being able to visit various medically related workplaces for my Clinicals. The Pulse: Do you have a favorite teacher? Brianna: My medical teacher, Ms. Miller, has been my favorite teacher because she is so nice and helpful. The Pulse: What is the most interesting thing you have learned by being part of the Medical Program? Brianna: Learning about becoming a personal trainer in Health and Wellness class was very interesting to me. The Pulse: What advice to you have for other medical students? Brianna: My advice would be to learn as much as there is to learn and to make the best of your high school career and be sure to balance academics with extra-curricular activities.

In this edition of The Pulse, we would like to honor and recognize Mr. Steven Murphy.

Mr. Murphy is our Math/Geometry teacher. He has been teaching at PHUHS for three years. Mr. Murphy is a great teacher who can make his students laugh with his jokes and easy going personality. He keeps his students engaged and involved in learning with his awesome Boston accent and his positive teaching style.

Mr. Murphy grew up in Boston Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts. During his college years, he became interested in teaching after coaching a lot of sports in college.

Linsey Beers—CWMP Class of 2004

Linsey attended college at SPC, where she completed all the pre requisites for the nursing program. She earned her Associate in Art Degree in Dec. 2006, and was accepted into the nursing program for Fall of 2007. She received the "Dr George Morris Earn As You Learn Program" scholarship through Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. This program allowed her to work as a Patient Care Tech one day per week at the hospital, while attending nursing school. She graduated nursing school in 2009 with an Associate Degree in Science Nursing. She became a licensed RN for the state of FL in 2009. Wanting to

continue her education in nursing, she applied for the Bachelor of Nursing Program through SPC, and worked night shift as an RN while continuing her education. In July of 2011, she completed her Bachelor of Science Nursing. She worked at Morton Plant Hospital in the Renal/Respiratory Medical Surgical Unit from 2007 until 2012, where she learned a majority of her med/surg skills. Interested in moving up in the chain of command in the nursing field and wanting to try different areas of nursing, she became a head charge nurse for Fairwinds, a rehab facility in Clearwater. But missing the hospital setting, she ventured off to Northside Hospital where she is currently a Charge Nurse for the med/surg unit working the night shift from 7pm-7am three days a week. Linsey absolutely loves what she is doing! She is a mom of a 10 month old son that she had along the way of her nursing adventures, and could not be more proud. She says her entire life has been changed for the better since beginning her nursing career way back in 2000, when she first started in the Medical Magnet Program. It's hard to believe that her 10 year reunion is this year!!

Marc Bentz—CWMP Class of 2004

Matt attended University of North Florida and graduated with an Associate of Science Degree from the Honors Program in December 2006. Matt then transferred to Florida State University where he was accepted into the College of Nursing baccalaureate Degree Program. While at FSU, he was a member of the Triathlon team. In the Spring of 2008, Matt graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. As a registered nurse, he worked as a critical care nurse at the Georgetown University Hos-pital for two years. He was accepted into the University of South Carolina College of Medicine, Masters of Nurse Anesthesia program. He graduated from the Nurse Anesthesia program in May 2013. Matt is currently enjoying working at a level one trauma hospital at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, as a nurse anesthetist. The CWMP program prepared him well for his medical career.
