THE SUNRISE MESSENGER The Paent Father We are told that children learn many life lessons from their fathers. I am delighted to hear that more and more fathers are seeing the importance of their role in the upbringing of their children. A recent survey showed that nearly half of all fathers spend more time with their children than their own dads did, and they think that is still not enough. But, as a father, I have learned many things from my own children. For instance, I learned: • A king-sized waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2,000 sq. ft. house 5 inches deep. • Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving. • You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is. • Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys do not like ovens. • The fire department in my hometown has a 5-minute response time. Of course, the above list is only a joke. But there are many important truths I’ve learned from my kids. One of them is the importance of love and patience. The Bible says: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:12). Raising children requires the patience of Job and the endurance of Paul. That’s no secret. It is rewarding when your children grow up and demonstrate that same patience with you. For ex- ample, when your health and strength and memory began to fade, it is a blessing to have chil- dren who are patient with you. When we show patience to our children and our parents and to anyone else, we are imi- tating the example that the Heavenly Father shows to us. “But you, O Lord, are a com- passionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness” (Psalm 86:15). “Lord, thank you for Christian Fathers and Christian sons and daughters who are patient with others. And thank you for your patience. Amen!” Larry Fitzgerald Abilene, TX Volume 27 Issue #25 June 18, 2017 SUNDAY AM June 18, 2017 June 25, 2017 ANNOUNCE Mark Vaughan Mark Vaughan SONGLEADER Zach Rominske Mark Vaughan READING Mike Bungard Ken Wilson PRAYER David Lamp Mike Vaughan COMMUNION Danny Carpenter Sr. David Lamp ASSIST Paul Lemon Paul Lemon ASSIST Adam Carpenter Adam Carpenter ASSIST Doug Stephens Doug Stephens ASSIST Caleb Clark Caleb Clark PREPARE COM Gina & Allie Vaughan Gina & Allie Vaughan POWER POINT Anne Galbreath Anne Galbreath SUNDAY PM SONGLEADER Roy Clark Zach Rominske READING Tyler Vaughan Caleb Clark PRAYER Tom Black Mike Carpenter COMMUNION Mike Carpenter Tom Black Wednesday June 21, 2017 June 28, 2017 Invitation Mike Carpenter Mark Vaughan Song Leader Zach Rominske Tyler Vaughan Sunrise Church of Christ Minister—Elvis Galbreath 598 Old Turnpike Road 304-422-0511(Office) Parkersburg, WV 26104 740-525-3914 (Cell) Email us @ [email protected] [email protected] Sunday June 11, 2017 Bible Study 48 Morning Worship 83 Evening Worship 49 Offering $1687.00 Wednesday Evening (6/14/17) 48 Attendance Goal 100 Meeting Times: Sunday Bible Class 9:30AM Sunday Morning Worship 10:30AM Sunday Evening Worship 6:00PM Wednesday Bible Class 7:00PM West Virginia Christian Youth Camp College Age Week 6/18—6/24 Athlete Week 6/25—6/30 (ages 12-18) Senior Week 7/2—7/8 (ages 14-18) Intermediate Week 7/9—7/14 (ages 11-14) Junior Week 7/16—7/21 (ages 7-11) All Ages Week 7/23—7/29 (ages 8-18) Singing Week 7/30—8/5 (ages 12-18) Upcoming Events Sunday June 18: Happy Fathers Day Sunday June 18—Friday June 23: Junior Week Bible Camp (ages 8-11 years old) Thursday June 22: Thursday Night Teen Devo 6:00pm at the home of Mike & Sandy Bungard Friday June 23: Friday Night Sing—Parkersburg City Park Bandshell 7:00pm it will be at North End church of Christ if it rains.
