EZRA ~vARNEREzra Warner was born 2 Sept.

1762, the son of Daniel and Bethia Warnero He resided for a time in the Mor-avian settlement at Gnadenhutten, Pa.In 1799 he became one of the firstpermanent white settlers in Clay Town-ship, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

He married Maria Magdalena Lan-er. Their children were Lydia, whomarried Daniel Noggle; Ruth, who mar-ried Daniel Carter; Sarah; Samuel Et-twine; Mary; and Hannah.

About 1811, he came into MohicanTownship, then Wayne County, Ohio.When Martin Ruffner and the Zeimerfamily were killed by Indians in 1812,the Ezra \varner f am i Ly along with oth-ers fled the area heading for New Phil-adelphia. At the Killbuck River, theparty met Capt. Nicholas Murray' with60 men advancing to Jerome's place tobuild a blockhouse. Warners and mostof the families returned with them anda fort was immediately built.

Eight families took refuge atthe Jerome blockhouse. In the spring,some plowed and planted corn and pota-toes while others patroled the forests.In 1814 they were able to leave theprotection of the blockhouse. JOHN HARNERJohn Harner was a justice of

the peace who lived in southern Ash-land County when it was still WayneCounty. Born in 1781 in FrederickCounty, Md., he died in 1844. He isburied in St. John's Cemetery at McZe-na, Ohio, beside his wife, Magdalena

ABRAHl>M SCHORAHAbraham Schorah was a French Hu-

guenot from Lorraine Province. He es-caped the persecution by the Revoca-tion of the Fdict of Nantes by comingto l>merica. He arrived at Philadelphiaon the ship Nancy·on 14 Sept 1754,with his wife, Catherine.

Although he was 46 at the out-break of the Revolutionary War, heserved both in the Jersey Campaign andon the frontier. He died in 1785.

I am descended from Mary Eliza-beth, one of his eight children. Thereare many of his descendants named Etz-wiler in this area today.
