THE BIG 3Whether you’ve been attending Faith Church for a long time or you are a first time

visitor, THE PAPER is here to help! Being a part of this church family is a partnership in growth, so we encourage you to

be involved in 3 ways:

WORSHIP ON THE WEEKENDSGather with others to listen to a message from God’s Word, sing, pray and lift up

the name of Jesus. Attend a service at one of our campuses. Faith Kids (infant-5th grade) is a safe place where kids can worship Jesus at their level. Don’t miss the

opportunity to gather with others and worship each week. Invite a friend.

CONNECT IN COMMUNITY

Being a follower of Jesus was never meant to be done alone. Sole-ranger Christianity usually means discouragement and failure. God has provided a

better way- Biblical community. Community keeps us encouraged, helps us build meaningful friendships, and most importantly, helps us grow as Christians. This may

be through a Mini-Church, Bible study or Serving Team. No matter what your age, God does not intend for you to walk through life alone. Be real. Be known.

SERVE OTHERSJoin a weekend Serving Team at one of our campuses, serve in your neighborhood or around the world! God has gifted each of us to do something special. Discover

the joy of serving.

Awesome God StoryWe decided to buy the groceries needed for the Faith Family Market first, and then load them into the car, since they did not need refrigeration, before going back into the store to buy our own groceries. We brought in the two bags with attached lists that we received from church and put them in the front basket of the cart. As we went through the store, we added the total amount in our heads.

When we got in line, I noticed a younger lady behind me with a sack full of groceries. I could have let her go ahead of me, but this time I didn’t because there were a lot of people behind her, and I knew we would need to come through the line again for our groceries. Since many were lined up behind her, the cashier came up to her and told her to move to the next lane, which would open up.

As we were paying for the groceries ($38 something), this same young lady walked by and handed me $40 and saying some-thing like “I saw your list in the cart and I would like to give. Use this money and buy more.”

Talk about being flabbergasted! I’m not sure all I said- “Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is for the Faith Family Market in Hammond Indiana. She walked away.

After she walked away, I told our cashier about it, who we’ve seen often, and she replied, “Wow! I’d like to give too.” We shared what it was all about and where the HAC [Hammond Arts Center] was located. She knew of the HAC because her friend Veronica does things there; we are guessing maybe the art shows. We told her we were collecting food all month long.

Totally overwhelmed and packing up the food, we then saw Dianne McNichols [another Faith Church member] walk into the store. We sought her out to tell her this story and share the goodness of Jesus! She prayed right there by the strawberries asking God to bless this awesome woman abundantly and thanking God for His work.

As I reflect back on this, I pray that I never forget this experience. God used the mundane job of grocery shopping to bless us.

Wow, God! And now we will add this story to our testimony.

In Genesis 37, we’re introduced to Joseph – you know the one – the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat guy. If it has been awhile since you’ve read Joseph’s story, allow me to give you the CliffsNotes version.

Joseph’s brothers were so jealous of him that they considered killing him, but in an act of “mercy,” they sell him into slavery instead. He’s now in a different country, away from the comforts of his father’s security, forced to work in the home of Potiphar, a government official. Despite having to serve against his will, Joseph rose to each task because God was with him. He was eventually put in charge of Potiphar’s entire household.

Then, after being falsely accused of wrongdoing by Potiphar’s wife, Joseph is thrown in prison. Instead of isolating himself and living bitterly, he serves Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, from prison by interpreting his dreams and is eventually elected as the second most powerful person in the country.

There are so many underlying themes in Joseph’s story from which we can relate: jealousy, injustice, God’s faithfulness and hope. The theme that has always struck me most, however, is Joseph’s example of Christian leadership.

At times, whether the challenge is in our health, a rela-tionship or at work, we all ask “why me, God?” Why are we experiencing a valley of uncertainty, pain or fear? We don’t always understand the mysterious plans that God has for our lives. Regardless of our circumstances though, we’re called to be faithful.

God has placed each of us where we are. Maybe we’re here for a short season, or maybe it’s a “Jeremiah 29” situation where we are called to settle in for the long haul. Regardless, God has a plan for each of us and calls us all to represent the character of Christ in both the

highs and the lows. Joseph never would have been the second most powerful man in Egypt if he had not remained faithful through the challenges of life. Who could have imagined that an Israelite kid could become a powerful Egyptian ruler?!

If you are currently experiencing famine, can you say you’re “showing up,” representing the character of Christ and remaining faithful in this season? God could be calling you to lead a nation… but if you don’t show up, wherever you are right now, you may never get to expe-rience the feast He has waiting for you or the powerful ways He intends to use you.

Invest in your leadership. Give yourself an opportunity to be inspired and motivated, reminded of how big our God and His desire are to use us, broken and sinful human beings, in accomplishing His will. We can learn from an-cient stories like Joseph’s as well as leadership experts of today.

Faith will host the Global Leadership Summit at Faith-Dyer on August 6-7. Liz Wiseman will teach us about leadership development, Brene Brown will nurture our vulnerability and courage and Jim Collins will challenge our ideas of management. This powerful simulcast event is guaranteed to encourage and inspire you.

As a Faith family member, you can use promo code GLS15HOST to register for a discounted rate through July 7. God can use this event to impact your life and your leadership, but you have to show up.

BEECHER• Offering SpringHill Day Camp at Faith-Beecher has resulted in over 100 children making first-time commit-ments to Jesus Christ as their Savior. We look forward to a third opportunity to work with SpringHill in the Beecher community this summer.

• Our involvement in the community through parade participation, serving lunch annually to the Junior High faculty/staff, serving food at the 4th of July parade, part-nering with the Youth Commission and participation in other Beecher initiatives/events.

• On-going development of strong connections and fel-lowship between the former Beecher Community Church members, Faith Church members and those who are new since we launched in Beecher. We love our quarterly pot-luck dinners for the fellowship they provide, and the majority of our members are involved in some type of ministry area service.

CEDAR LAKE• God has been gracious and faithful! As we begin the building project, we are excited that the site work has begun.

• Our partnership with Kids Hope and MacArthur Ele-mentary has been tremendous, and we are excited to be building less than a mile from the school.

• The Free Saturday Lunch and our Faith Family Market have minstered to over 40 families from the community.

As God brings new people, we are praying for deeper connections in community.

DYER• Celebrating our 50th anniversary at the Star Plaza services.

• The launch of our 7th campus in Schererville.

• The work, discipling and training toward our first international site in Santo Domingo, D.R.

HAMMOND• Our quarterly potluck, where we make lunch together after the service, has helped build commmunity at our campus. Every enjoys it and visitors really feel welcomed!

• Last August, we hosted an outreach event, “School Jam,” at Harrison Park. We provided food, crafts for the kids, bounce houses, and live music. We also presented over 275 supply-filled backpacks for children with back-to-school needs. We were so blessed by serving these local families. We look forward to this year’s event, and hope to make it an annual event.

HIGHLAND• We’ve seen a tremendous 1st year of MOPS in High-land. 40 Moms from both the church and community, and tons of kids!

• Our community continues to grow! New visitors are there every week and disconnected people are making us their church home.

• Reconnecting. The Lord has used the ministry of Faith-Highland as a reconnection point for people who haven’t been worshiping in community for a long time.

• Life Change. What a joy to watch people connect for the first time with Jesus and have their eternities changed and experience people growing in their love of Jesus and each other.

SCHERERVILLE• Seeing God transform lives and make broken pasts, marriages and relationships beautiful and whole.

• Watching many children ask God to be their FOREVER FRIEND and mentoring those children through selfless Faith Kids volunteers.

• Fostering community within our church through Wednesday night open gym, Sunday Fun Days, and summer outreach events.

• Community partnership with Campagna Academy. Min-istering to students and staff. Seeing lives transformed.

VALPARAISO• In partnership with Reflectors, we’ve launched a new bi-weekly worship service specifically programmed to-wards those with special needs.

• Our exposure to the community has increased expo-nentially through the availability of our facility to groups and events. We’ve hosted several churches across Northern Indiana for a conference about planning creative worship services as well as made our facility available for families needing space to celebrate family events.

• Through our affiliation with Open Arms, Faith Valpo has been able to house and minister to a record number of homeless women during the fall and winter months.

• After navigating through a staff transition, we’ve seen many new people step up to serve and lead our wor-ship services on Sunday mornings. Through a variety of voices, the Holy Spirit has been infusing our worship in wonderful ways.

YOU HAVE MULTIPLIED, O LORD MY GOD, YOUR WONDROUS DEEDS AND YOUR THOUGHTS

TOWARD US; NONE CAN COMPARE WITH YOU! I WILL PROCLAIM AND TELL OF THEM,

YET THEY ARE MORE THAN CAN BE TOLD.

Why Family Summer Worship?Summer takes on a life of its own. We plan vacations. We travel to see families. We travel to play sports. For a few months, we are all “off schedule” before fall snaps us back into earlier bed times, homework, regular eating times and pack-ing lunches. Summer is often the best of times, but sometimes we feel like fall can’t come soon enough!

As a church, summer looks a little different, too. We have a place for younger children to come worship Jesus, be safe and have fun. We also have a place for adults and older children to come worship Jesus together in “big church.” Summer provides a special time for older and younger children of God to do life together, to worship Jesus together. There are few places on earth where a 7 year old can have a con-versation, have fun and worship Jesus with a 77 year old.

As families, we have different rhythms throughout the year and different seasons of life. As a church, we embrace all of these stages and phases of life together. So, whether you serve for an hour in Faith Kids this summer and worship in that place, or welcome and introduce yourself to a family in “big church” …God gets all the glory and honor through us.

WHO IS

JANMULDER?

Q. Where are you from & how did you get connected to Faith?A. I moved to South Holland in the late 90s. After visiting many churches, I was drawn to the worship at Faith. When I was asked to join the women’s volleyball team that sealed the deal!

Q. What have you seen God do at Faith & what do you enjoy about worship?A. I have seen God expand our vision and mission as we moved to Dyer. Ministering full time with youth in South Holland, I wondered if I could go to church in Indiana, but Faith’s worship and people filled me with Jesus in such a way that encouraged me in ministry. It gave me the Biblical foundation and boost needed. I also love the variety in excellent music and the arts which fills all the senses and draws me to God. It is neat to see how Faith’s vision has expanded to many sites where more people can experience knowing Jesus!

Q. Where do you serve at Faith & how do you connect with others?A. I serve as a weekend usher at Dyer where I enjoy greeting people and I serve in Faith Kids as a large group leader teaching kids the weekend Bible lesson. I enjoyed serving on the Missions Committee years ago and the Nomination Team for 9 years hearing people’s stories. I absolutely love my small group where we study God’s Word, pray for each other, and love each other well - what a Godsend this group is! With my biological family in 5 different states, Faith Church has become my growing family and that means the world to me and brings me joy!

Q. What have you seen God do in your life?A. God is always on the move in my life, teaching me something. Faith Church continually reminds me that I am His loved and forgiven child. I have also seen God expand my view of Him and the world through my work with Young Life Expeditions where I set up and lead several service trips each year. I am extremely grateful for the way Faith Church supports me in this, where many lives are being transformed. I recently served in Galena, Alaska, where we helped the Young Life area there present the Gospel to many tribal boarding students. Through my work in Galena, several other cities and disaster relief efforts, I have been privileged to step into the work God is doing and to share His love and hope. He has set me up to equip others to see the world He sees and to shine His love there.

Q. What else do you want to share?A. First, I am excited to be engaged to Ed Beatty and am thankful for the way my church family has welcomed him warmly. A July 25 wedding is planned. Second, I am very grateful for Faith Church’s partnership in ministry - your prayers, gifts, and encouragement are priceless! I welcome you to attend a special dinner and auction on Thursday, June 18, at White Hawk Country Club to help raise ministry awareness and support. You can also golf with us that day. It will be a fun event you will not want to miss! Also, consider joining a team June 25-29 serving in Lampe, Missouri helping build a new Young Life camp, Clearwater Cove. Email me at [email protected] for reservations for these opportunities ASAP.

Faith Church – I thank God for you and love you much; may He be glorified in all we do!

Ministry ReportFaith Church Cedar Lake Building Project

When one thinks of Spring and Summer one often thinks of growth, new birth, changing landscape and warmer temperatures. Faith Church–Cedar Lake is warming up with a new initiative as excavation begins on the new building and permanent home for this campus. Faith Church–Cedar Lake has been mobile for nearly 8 years renting space and roaming between facilities, but still impacting the community with the Faith Family Market, Christian Aid and a solid presence in the area.

The Reach Project funds have been put to work to begin preparing the site. Attendance is increasing and momentum is building as this campus prepares to welcome many more to join us on this Jesus mission. The Consistory (board) of Faith Church officially approved this approx-imate 18,000 square foot building project at $3,900,000. This will be a blessing to this community.

Note from the Stewardship Team

The Stewardship Team and the Leadership of Faith Church provide this quarterly financial breakdown to communicate the financial status and ministry updates of the church. Please visit the “Give” section of our website (www.faithchur-chonline.org )for additional information, including an audited financial report and the current annual budget.

Note from Justin Kats, Executive Pastor

At Faith Church, everything we do and every dollar we invest is about the mission of reaching the disconnected and growing the connected. This is not just a mission statement but also my mission and your mission. We are called to live this out- telling others our story of faith and relationship with Jesus, giving generously to His mission, raising disciples of Jesus and sending them out. Faith Church, thank you so much for your giving of your tithes and offerings, your time and service to the Lord and this church! We praise God for you and pray His blessing upon you and your family.
