Bill Cook from Olson Hall had the honor of going

on a Dream Flight last month. He would like to thank Heartland Hospice for sponsoring this event. He will forever remember this unforgetable and memorable moment.

I hope this message finds you all well and comfortable at your King home. As September progresses, and cooler winds begin to blow, our

transition to Fall has begun.

This September has been a busy month as we marked 20 years since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the end of active military operations in Afghanistan. We take time to remember the lives lost and the courage and strength of first responders and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by the men and women who continued to defend our freedom by serving in the military since that fateful day.

Recently, September 17th, I was honored to be a part of a re-dedication ceremony with Governor Evers and other dignitaries of the POW/MIA Chair at the Capitol Rotunda in Madison. This will be in a special place of honor outside the Assembly chamber as a constant visual reminder to our representatives and Capitol visitors, that even when war ends, not everyone comes home.

We look forward to Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11. As of right now, we are formulating plans to determine what those celebrations will look like. We look forward to sharing the details of our Veterans Day tributes soon!

Fall in Wisconsin is a beautiful place, and I know you must also be anticipating the stunning colors of the changing leaves and the tranquility of Rainbow Lake at King one of the most beautiful places to be.

Gettingto know our Team

Jeff OttoMeet

Hello! My name is Jeff Otto. I am a new volunteer with over 22 hours so far. I am a

U.S. Navy veteran myself, having served primarily in the Mojave Desert at the NAF at the Naval Weapons Center in China Lake, CA and on the USS Assurance, a wooden hulled minesweeper home ported out of Charleston, SC. I live at Kaukauna, Wisconsin, about 58 miles east of King, with my wife, Mary Ann.

I have been married to Mary Ann for over 16 years, and we have five grown children and

nine grandchildren spread throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Massachusetts. Since Memorial Day this year we have had the opportunity to see, in person, all of our children and grandchildren after a year and a half of only Zoom. I have primarily worked in the Machine Tool Industry at Giddings & Lewis and Precision Scraping and Alignment in various capacities

from customer service, sales, administrations, and operations. Mary Ann is still working for the church, but also looks forward to joining me with serving the veterans who live at King.

I have been retired for five years and fill my time volunteering for my church, Habitat for Humanity, American Legion, Ruby’s Pantry, Hospice, the EAA and other civic groups in the area. I felt it was time to volunteer at the Wisconsin Veterans Home and share my time with my fellow veterans. I have spent time with Ainsworth Hall first floor playing cards, visiting, and assisting with some fishing trips. I find it very rewarding to spend time with the people living at the King veterans’ home.

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)

Relationship is God’s idea. You were created to be in relationship to God and He desires to be in relationship to you.You were also created to be in relationship with others. Forty-Four years ago, on August 6, 1977, my lovely Bride and I stood together before God and before loved ones as witnesses, to pledge our love and commitment to each other. The two of us became “one” on our Wedding Day!With the Lord in the center of our relationship, we acted in Faith, with great Hope, that our Love and commitment towards one another would last until death do us part. • As the years went by, Francine and I were tested in our relationship with challenges that life would bring. Here are a few of our challenges, which you might be able to relate to: • Growing in our own relationship to the Lord and keeping it strong…. Growing in our love relationship to each other and others. • Careers…. balancing work and play…. balancing life. • Supporting and encouraging one another. • Raising Children & Teenagers • Finances • Life Decisions…. Career changes. • Health issues • Empty Nesting. • Relationships with Adult Children.

How important it was….and continues to be, for Francine and I to have the right foundation in our life as individuals and as husband and wife.

The Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 3:11, For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Christ Jesus. (NIV)

Our foundation in life ought to be in our faith and relationship to Jesus Christ. As Christians’, Jesus teaches us in the scriptures that we must exercise our foundation in Him to live out life in a meaningful way.

Luke 6:46-49 (Jesus says), Why do you call me, Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house who dug deep and laid a foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it is well built.

But the one who hears my words and does not put them to practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck, it collapsed, and its destruction was complete. (NIV)

As the scripture says in James 1:22…. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourself. Do what it says. (NIV)

We are encouraged that to live out life successfully, our Faith, Hope, and Love in Jesus must be our foundation and we ought to have ears to hear and have the will to live out life according to Jesus’ teachings.

To accomplish this, it is so very important to read, to learn, and to understand the Word of God.

We are not alone in this…. I have experienced in my walk with the Lord that He is willing and able to help me in my need to understand His teachings and to live out His teachings. The Lord will be faithful to come along side of you as well.

With Jesus and His teachings being our foundation, we are encouraged that in our relationships…. Faith, Hope, and Love can last forever. Let’s look at simple definitions of these 3 important words taken from the Merriam-Webster online Dictionary: • Faith…. Complete trust, something that is believed especially with strong conviction. • Hope…. To expect with confidence. • Love…. Strong affection for another.

I hope that you are encouraged as I share with you, my favorite Faith, Hope, and Love scriptures: • Hebrews 11:1…. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what you do not see. (NIV) • Hebrews 11:6…. And without faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek Him. (NIV) • Regarding the certainty of God’s promise, Hebrews 6:19…. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. (NIV) • Romans 5:8…. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (NIV) • John 15: 12-13…. Jesus said, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” (NIV)

Faith, Hope, and Love are words of action. We must continue to grow and move forward in our own Faith, our own Hope, and our own Love. Faith, Hope, and Love are centered in our relationships……relationship to our God, our spouses, our children, our Grandchildren, our extended families, our friendships.

Our daughter called to wish Francine and I a happy Wedding Anniversary and to thank us for our example of love and commitment to each other over the last 44 years.

I was quickly reminded that even though many things change over time and many challenges come in relationship with those we love…. the foundation of our relationship to Christ and our commitment to Faith, Hope, and Love must remain the same.

I pray that in your relationship to Jesus and to those you love that these 3 things remain…. faith, hope, and love…. the greatest of these being Love.

WISCONSIN VETERANS HOME AT KING Library News

Southern Lights by Danielle Steel Eleven years have passed since Alexa Hamilton left the South behind, fleeing the pain of her ex-husband’s betrayal and the cruelty of his prominent Charleston family. Now an assistant D.A. in Manhattan, Alexa has finally put her demons to rest, making a name for herself as a top prosecutor, handling the city’s toughest cases while juggling her role as devoted single mom to a teenage daughter. But everything changes when Alexa is handed her latest case: the trial of accused serial killer Luke Quentin. Sifting through mountains of forensic evidence, Alexa prepares for a high-stakes trial...until threatening letters throw her private life into turmoil. The letters are addressed to her beautiful seventeen-year-old daughter, Savannah, whom Alexa has been raising alone since her divorce. Alexa is certain that Quentin is behind the letters—and that they are too dangerous to ignore. Suddenly she must make the toughest choice of all—and send her daughter back to the very place she swore she would never return to: the place where her marriage ended in heartbreak...her ex-husband’s world of southern tradition, memories of betrayal, and the antebellum charm of Charleston. Now, while Alexa’s trial builds to a climax in New York, her daughter is settling into southern life, discovering a part of her family history and a father she barely knows—from the ice-cold stepmother who stole him away to a fascinating ancestry and a half-sister and half-brothers she comes to love. As secrets are exposed and old wounds are healed, Alexa and Savannah, after a season in different worlds, will come together again—strengthened by the challenges they have faced, changed by the mysteries they have unraveled, and with Savannah now at home in the southern world her mother fled.

Enemy of the State by Kyle Mills After 9/11, the United States made one of the most secretive and dangerous deals in its history. The evidence against the powerful Saudis who coordinated the attack would be buried. In return,

King Faisal would promise to keep the oil flowing and deal with the conspirators in his midst. When the king’s own nephew is discovered funding ISIS, the president suspects that the Saudis never intended to live up to their agreement. He decides that the royalty needs to be sent a message and that Mitch Rapp is just the man to deliver it. The catch? America can’t be seen moving against an ally. Rapp will be on his own. Forced to make a decision that will change his life forever, Rapp quits the CIA and assembles a group of independent contractors to help him complete the mission. They’ve barely begun unraveling the connections between the Saudi government and ISIS when the brilliant new head of the intelligence directorate discovers their efforts. With Rapp getting too close, he threatens to go public with the details of the post-9/11 agreement between the two countries. Rapp, supported only by a team of mercenaries with dubious allegiances, finds himself at the center of the most elaborate manhunt in history. It’s only a matter of time before he’s caught or killed.

House Witness by Mike Lawson Minority Leader of the House and DeMarco’s long-time employer John Mahoney has kept more than one secret from his wife over the years, but none so explosive as this: He has a son, and that son has just been shot dead in a bar in Manhattan. Mahoney immediately dispatches DeMarco to New York to assist prosecutor Justine Porter, but with five bystanders willing to testify against the killer--rich-boy Toby Rosenthal--the case seems like a slam-dunk. That is, until Porter begins to suspect that someone is interfering with those witnesses, and that this may be connected to a pattern of cases across the country. Is there someone who is getting witnesses out of the way when the fate of a wealthy defendant is on the line? With the help of Porter’s intern, as outrageously smart as she is young, DeMarco becomes determined to follow that question through to its violent resolution in what turns out to be this series’ most unexpected plot yet.
