Welcome!

As the sun sets earlier and the snow falls, the Art House is as cozy and creative as ever. As 2018 comes to an end, we are looking to the future - with new classes, a new year, and open arms for new and returning students! Erin has worked closely with our instructors creating the Winter classes - we are thrilled to welcome Donna to the team, and look forward to her watercolor and drawing classes. Jennifer will return in February with more calligraphy classes. Sasha continues to guide all students in drawing and painting. Maria will be teaching several new workshops and 3-week classes. Julie will continue teaching drawing and painting to all ages. Nancy will continue to guide the intermediate and advanced painters on their pieces. We are honored to have such a talented group of instructors here - to share their skills, and help students thrive. There truly is a class to fit every student's need and creative fancy.

Ryan and the Exhibits Committee have an exciting new year of work - from textiles to figures, colored pencils to Michigan Landscapes. Pick up a 6-month postcard on your next visit to see what is coming up! Alex is finalizing details and invitations for ArtCrush on Saturday, February 9th at the Village Workshop - tickets are available in store or online for a fun night to support the Northville Art House. We look forward to delicious treats, beautiful music, and a thrilling silent auction (and only two blocks away - talk about a street bustling with creativity!).

We at the Art House are extremely grateful to each and every one of our members and supporters who make this journey to bring the arts and education to our community possible. Thank you for all that you do - be it visiting us on First Fridays, taking classes with one of our wonderful instructors, strolling through the Arts and Acts festival, or browsing the website to see what is new. We are so glad you choose to join us, and we are excited to share with you what the New Year has to bring!

Thank you, and I look forward to welcome you on your next visit to be apART of it!

Amanda Barnett Director Our History The arts have had a presence in our community for many years. Over the last 35 years, many of the arts-related activities in the City of Northville have been either spearheaded or supported by a passionate group of volunteers through the Northville Arts Commission and has grown into the Art House. Founded in 1980, the Northville Arts Commission is a volunteer organization dedicated to “involve the community in all phases of the arts”. After 25 years, we were thrilled to find a home of our own at 215 W. Cady. Community volunteers spent almost 8 months cleaning and renovating the building to include a gallery, classroom, offices, and a small artisan store. We held a grand opening for the Northville Art House in March of 2005, and are thrilled to see how the space has grown over the last 13 years. We hope you enjoy the exhibits, classes, and artisan store as much as we do. Sue Taylor Chairperson, Northville Arts Commissions

Artisan Store Feature Artist Katlan Michalak Stop by the Artisan Store and see Katlans photographs. Katlan grew up in Ann Arbor, surrounded by art at a young age by her mother who made art herself. She would help out at her parents screen print shop observing the printmaking process first hand. Starting in high school, the first photography class set the path that would lead to what she creates today. After graduating from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts her style started to take shape. It was a long journey of finding her style, but after realizing her love of texture she finally achieved a way of representing it though photography by using a double exposure technique in Photoshop. Each image becomes a complex system of layers that creates either a simple or unique narrative. Being an emerging artist I want to express a different way of seeing the world that inspire or evoke feelings in people no matter how simple or complex they may be. Katlans photographs will be in the Artisan store until the end of October.
