A Human Brain

The physical Brain

Some Facts• The adult human brain

weighs, on average, about 1.5 kg

• It functions as the Powerhouse (the centre of the Nervous System) in most animals.

Sponges, jellyfish and starfish have no brain. Possibly even some ‘humans’ we may know!

The physical BrainSome More Facts

• We are born with the same number of Brain Cells (Neurons) as adults have.

• We have around 100 billion Neurons ...

• that transmit electrical signals between each other and throughout the body.

• 10–23 Watts of Brain Power when awake.

The physical BrainSome More Facts

• 70% of the Brain is water.

• We actually use 100% of our Brain.

• Our Brain uses ⅕ of our daily energy.

• The living brain is ‘pale pink’ while a preserved brain is grey, hence the reference to ‘grey matter’.

Your Mind

Page 12: The mind part 1

This is your MindYour Mindis not physical;it’s a function,

similar to software

Page 13: The mind part 1

It is experienced through our

Conscious and Unconscious

Thoughts

Your Mind is Virtual

Page 14: The mind part 1

Thinks,Calculates,Reasons,

Deliberates …

Your Conscious Mind

Page 15: The mind part 1

Deals with all that is Automatic,

like your breathing, heartbeat,

balance, pain, growth …

Your Unconscious Mind

Page 16: The mind part 1

harbours your Dreams,

Memories,and Emotions

Your Unconscious Mind

Page 17: The mind part 1

and therefore also your

Sensations,Experiences,and Habits

Your Unconscious Mind

Page 18: The mind part 1

is the Universeinside us!

Our Unconscious Mind

also referred to as our Subconscious

Mind

Page 19: The mind part 1

is the Universeinside us!

Our Unconscious Mind

also referred to as our Subconscious

Mind

Page 20: The mind part 1

You take in everything by means of your

Senses

How do you Experience Life?

Page 21: The mind part 1

What your Senses perceive is ‘Filtered’

in your Mind

before you even make sense of it.

How do you Experience Reality?

Page 22: The mind part 1

Events are happening around us

Experiencing Your Personal Reality

taken in by our Physical Sensesprocessed through our many

Mental FiltersOur Meaning is

FormedThis is our Version of

Reality!

Page 23: The mind part 1

What our Senses perceive once this is

‘Filtered’ in our Mind

becomes ‘our’ personalReality.

Experiencing Your Personal Reality

Page 24: The mind part 1

They include ‘our’

• Past Experiences / Memories

• Opinions, Values and Beliefs

• Cultural backgrounds• Linguistic abilities • Character, Traits and

Attitude• Fears and Fancies . . .

What are our Mental Filters?

Page 25: The mind part 1

By what your Senses perceive after this is

‘Filtered’ in your Mind

thereby making it your own, personal

reality.

So how do you Experience Reality?

Page 26: The mind part 1

Emotions

are borninside us

not outside us

And What does this also Mean?

Page 27: The mind part 1

Emotions

are the resultsof how we interpretwhat we

understand

because . . .

Page 28: The mind part 1

depends on theEmotions it elicits,

the feelings it recalls

now what makes a Memory

Good or Bad

Page 29: The mind part 1

Our Memories

are ‘modified’ versions

of the original reality.

and let’s not forget that . . .

Page 30: The mind part 1

besides being incomplete!

Yes, we only recall parts of what will

have beenrecorded in our

Unconscious Mind

Page 31: The mind part 1

• We experience reality through our physical senses

• What we take in is ‘filtered’ before we decide what it means to us

So, let’s summarise:

Page 32: The mind part 1

• What we believe to be True is our ‘personal’ version of Reality

• No two people will perceive Reality (or Truth) in an identical manner

So, let’s summarise:

Page 33: The mind part 1

• Emotion is a result of how we interpret what is going on

• Emotions, therefore, are born inside us … not outside

• It is possible to alter our reaction (emotion)

So, let’s summarise:

Page 34: The mind part 1

• What we experience in our own minds creates Memories

• And Memories are perceived as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ depending on what Emotions they recall

So, let’s summarise:

Page 35: The mind part 1

• But Memory is itself a result of how we ‘filter’ events, and so it is a ‘modified’ version of reality

• Besides being selective and, therefore, incomplete.

So, let’s summarise:

Page 36: The mind part 1

• But whatever is felt and remembered is ‘True’ for us

• Even if the rest of the world says otherwise, even if it is only our interpretation

So, let’s summarise:

Page 37: The mind part 1

• These Memories ( loaded with Emotional content ) are often carried by us for many years

• They shape our bodies, affect our actions and often even our attitude towards life.

So, we may Conclude by saying that:

Page 38: The mind part 1

• As beautiful as it is to ‘recall’ the pleasant memories …

• It is essential to ‘release’ the bad ones, the heavy feelings, to free ourselves and our lives. Art is a good way to do this.

So, in Conclusion:

Page 39: The mind part 1
