Mrs. Heikkila’s Career

- Started out with no intention of going to teacher’s college, and didn’t

until the last day of the deadline. Her mother called and woke her up,

and said that today was the last day, and that she should apply. Mrs. H

had been at a cast party the previous night, but was talked into applying

to teacher’s college. She called the people at the teacher’s college and

asked if it was too late after a little humming and hawing, they decided

to s!uee"e in an e#tra interview at the end of the day. Having no car,

Mrs. H takes a cab to the interview, and gets into teacher’s college.- She meets $od in an %nglish class. &ater asks $od to a play. He says '(

have a girlfriend.) She says '*ho cares, ( +ust want to see the play.)

 hey go, they fall in love, they later get engaged.

- $od is hired at rthur oaden, in what he believes to be the St. homasirgin (slands. urns out it is a di/erent St. homas.

- Mrs. Heikkila, still having no car, bikes around St. homas looking for

work. She 0nds a big imposing building that looks a little like a school 1

lma College. She knocked on the door, said she was a teacher and

looking for work. hey were having their drama teacher retire, so the

timing was perfect.- t lma College, Mrs. Heikkila actually taught math and science as well,

in addition to %nglish and drama- *hen lma College closed down 2 years later, she applied to 3arkside,

Mrs. H got a +ob as learning support teacher, helping children with math.&ater moved to helping children with %nglish, bet you can’t guess why.

- little later, she started teaching drama, spending 45 years in a bo#y

small classroom with desks. %ventually a drama consultant from the

board announced that she had the worst facilities for teaching drama of

anywhere in the board, and she was moved to the present 6rama room.- She put on her very 0rst show, 7odspell, in her 0rst year at 3arkside. She

had met Ms. Southern, at the time +ust 48, in vita, in &ondon. he two of 

them had started laughing from the moment they met each other 9and

really haven’t stopped since:. She asked South to play piano and work

the music in her show, South agreed, and that was a big part of thereason why we now have Ms. Southern at our school as well.

- Many many shows later, Mrs. Heikkila announces her retirement. She

begins the dessert of life, that is retirement.
