experience necessary. You will have the best boss (Dave). Someone is always willing to help you.

Give it a try. Call Dave at 518-669-0155.

Congratulations on a successful event!!

Joe and crew did a fantastic job on the sub sale event.

People were praising the amount of food you got for

your money and how flavorful it was.

The yard sale crew was amazing. Working and helping all

who stopped by to make sure they can stuff their cars

full. Most everything was sold.

Thank you to Dave for a brilliant basket of cheer fund-

raiser. That was a hit. The lady who won was overjoyed.

Chris and crew did a fabulous job on the steak bake.

Many people commented on the flavor of the steaks and

how tender they were.

Our teacher asked what my favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken." She said I was not funny, but she couldn't have been right, because everyone else laughed. My par-ents told me to always tell the truth. I did. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals. I do, too. Especially chicken, pork, and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the princi-pal's office. I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again. The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, so I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principal's office. He laughed and told me not to do it again. I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked me to tell her what famous person I admired most. I told her, "Colonel Sanders." Guess where I am now...

If you want to an enjoyable adventure, take a scenic ride and learn a bit of Elks' history go to Florida. Florida, Massachusetts that is. About 50 miles from Valatie on Mass route 2 (the Mohawk Trail) stands an impressive sculpture of a regal elk. The monument was erected in 1923 by the Massachusetts Elks Association in honor of Elks from the Commonwealth who gave their lives dur-ing the First World War, The eight foot high bronze statue of an elk stands on a three foot high rough cut granite base. The elk holds his head high and has a full rack of antlers.

The memorial was dedicated on June 17, 1923. At that time a time capsule was also buried to be opened 100 years later. The opening is not that far off, it's scheduled to occur in June of 2022.

Have you seen the "Elk on the Trail ?

Recently, Jim McKay and Larry Eleby spent an afternoon with friends riding motorcycles and visited the "Elk on the Trail". The ride over to Florida from Valatie took about an hour-and-fifteen minutes by way of route 22 in NY and routes 43, 7 and 2 in Mass.

That is through New Lebanon in Stephentown, New York and Hancock, Williamstown and North Adams in Mass. It was quite a scenic ride and the monument which is on the side of route 2 at the top of Whitcomb summit is impressive to all and especially meaningful to member Elks.

Elk of the Month

Since we have so many outstanding elks, the newsletter committee has decided to recognize an elk that has consistently gone the extra mile.

As you all know by now, we like to give recognition to a member that gives that little extra for the benefit of the Lodge.

The Elk of the month for October has been a member for decades. He is always willing to help when and wherever he can. He is a PER and will fill in any chair that is needed even when he gets a call 10 minutes before the meeting starts. He has been crew chief, bacon cooker, dish washer, bbq helper,

car parker and anything else that he is able to do he does. He is a very calm person, and he loves the NY Jets.

The Elk of the month for October is PER Frank Masten.

Veteran’s Recognition

We would like to recognize our veteran mem-

bers within our lodge. Email, text, drop off or mail

a picture in your uniform along with your name

for Thom and Tammy.

We will proudly display your picture in the

order we received the submissions on a wall

within the lounge for a month. We give time for

members to guess who it is and then we will add

your name to the picture.

Once your month of fame is over, we will place it

in a photo album within the lodge.

Submit to Thom and Tammy McDermott.

Do you know this beautiful veteran of the

month?

Did you guess Terri Brew? Only 2 knew and

that is because of working on the same events

together.

Larry Knott, we can never thank you enough for all the sup-

port you give to the lodge. Larry is at every event, comes in

each day to help the lounge, clean the facility, he lends an

ear and will always cheer you up when you’re feeling down.

We all love his humor. He is our energizer bunny that you

sometimes want to pull the battery out of because his mouth

just keeps going and going. But that is why we love him so

much. He is always helping and never asks for anything in

return.
