FROM THE DON’S DESK
We extend a warm welcome to all new residents, relatives, visitors and staff coming to Jindalee!
There have been some changes in staff over the last few weeks. Jamie Whitby has changed roles and is now managing Banksia wing.
Leea Thurston is now the Admissions Officer and will co-ordinate return to work from Workers’ Compensation.
We farewell Michelle Barilaro as she returns to the Sunshine Coast. It is sad to say goodbye Michelle. Good Luck!
After many years of employment at Jindalee, Rasma Dyball has also resigned. We wish her all the best for the future. We hope she en-joyed her flowers and pot plant that were delivered to her home from all her friends and colleagues here at Jindalee!
Our Administration Manager, Sally Arrowsmith, is returning to work after a bout of ill health. A big thankyou to all those who have assisted with attending to her duties over the past few weeks.
Alanna High and her husband Dean have announced the birth of a beautiful baby girl, Avaya Brae on September 26th. Congratulations and enjoy your maternity leave!
There is a lot going on in the next few weeks. The Health and Leisure team will fill you in and we will catch up in the Christmas Jindajabber!
Until then,
Kind Regards
Jo, Pam & Chris (Director & Deputy Directors of Nursing)
Jo Temple (Director of Nursing)

With the warmer weather upon us, it is the perfect opportunity to spend some
time outdoors. Many of the residents enjoy gardening. Les Humphrey, residing in
Hoya has a beautiful display of orchids on his balcony. They are just magnificent!
We have included photos so that we can all appreciate his “green thumb!”

MONTHS IN REVIEW
Rugby Choir
On October 13th,a number of residents had the chance to see the Australian Rugby
Choir perform at the Southern Cross Club. As in the past, we were not disappointed
by the singing and many positive comments were exchanged on the way home.
Floriade Bus Drives
Residents had the chance to attend Floriade on three
different occasions. The weather this year had not
been kind to the flowers, but those who went on the
bus still had a fabulous trip.
We have included photos so that those who did not
attend can marvel at some of the better displays.

Restaurant Outing
Portia’s Place in Griffith was the destination of our October restaurant outing on
the 26th October.
Over twenty residents enjoyed a Chinese banquet with some wine followed by
coffee or tea.
Everyone had a great time with delicious food and of course, great company! We
look forward to our next restaurant outing in December.

YMCA Sports Carnival
The annual YMCA Sports Carnival
was held on Thursday 13th October.
The residents had been training hard
for 6 weeks with students from The
University of Canberra prior to the
event.
Jindalee's team of 16 residents
attended as the reigning champions
and had a great day of competition
and fun.
We came very close this year in a
number of events but were unable to
retain our title.
We have come back with some very
creative ideas for the 2017 competi-
tion. It was great fun...better luck next
year!

Jan & Dave & Classical Concert
We have enjoyed many performers over the last
two months including “The Two of Us”, also
known as “Jan and Dave” to their friends at
Jindalee. We always hear lots of laughter and
singing and see smiles all round when they visit.
Another wonderful event in October was a classi-
cal concert on the piano by a young fellow named
Daniel. It was refreshing to see such a talented
recital performed by a 12 year old!
Thank you to Daniel and his family for making
the performance such an enjoyable one.
Bingo
One of our most popular activities at Jindalee is our twice weekly bingo game. We
average around 20 players at each game and it is wonderful to see so many residents
engaged in friendly competition.

consider buying “diabetes friendly” or

PRAISE AND COMPLAINTS
BY
RESIDENTS OR THEIR RELATIVES
At Jindalee Aged Care Residence, we aim to provide the highest quality of care to our resi-
dents. To assist us to continually improve our service, we welcome feedback and suggestions
for improvement from residents and their relatives. Suggestions are considered by the staff at
the Resident’s Care Committee Meeting where they are discussed. We investigate all
complaints and aim to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Praise and concerns can be informal or formal, and anonymous if that is your desire.
Most issues can be dealt with informally. If you have an issue please ask to speak to the
person in charge of the wing. The issue may easily be dealt with in a simple conversation.
Jindalee has a Praise and Complaint Form that is available, providing a more formal method of
offering praise or concern. There is an option of remaining anonymous however it is difficult to
give feedback if we do not know who is raising the concern.
Once a Praise and Complaint Form has been completed, it can be handed to the nurse,
placed in the suggestion box in the foyer or posted to Jindalee.
The Director of Nursing (DON) or delegates review all the forms. They investigate the cause
of the concern, with a focus on whether Jindalee’s Policy and Procedures are contributing
factors and takes appropriate action to rectify any issues. Feedback is then available to the
complainant (if not anonymous).
All completed forms are kept in a folder in the Educator’s Office.
External support groups can also offer assistance
