In Service Training Workshops For TeachersTo keep the teachers motivated and updated, workshops were conducted for the Primary

Teachers and Trained Graduate Teachers of the school from 13 – 17 May, 2019.

On 13 May,2019, Mrs Priyanka Wadhwa and Mr AnshulWadhwa , Co founders, AptiGuide Institute, Jalandhar,

enlightened the teachers on how to makecomplicated Mathematical  calculations easy, using

Vedic Mathematics, not only for themselves, but alsotheir students and own children.

On 14 May,2019, Mr Michael Patrick, Chairmanand Mr Manish Sharma, Vice President, People ForPeople Society conducted an interactive sessionon topics like ‘Knowing oneself’, ‘Interpreting

teen behaviour’, ‘Weaning very young childrenoff  electronic devices’and. ‘Handling extra

sensitive students.’

On 17 May,2019, Mrs Nidhi Mittal, a dansuesse andmotivational speaker from‘ Antara Dance Studio’,

Jalandhar, held a session to  help create awarenesson ‘Activating Body Harmony Through Healing of our

Chakras.

On 17 May,2019,Dr Nitin Kumar from LovelyProfessional University, Phagwara, familiarised the

teachers with the concept of ‘Artificial Intelligence’,explaining the difference between automation and

robots, types and applications of robots, etc.

NDA Entrance Test Coaching Classes

Special coaching classes were organised and conducted from 4-29 June, 2019, bythe school, for boys from class XII, aspiring to take the written entrance

examination for the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, in 2019. Thetimings were 8 am to 2.15 pm, Monday through Saturday. 17 boys attended the

classes.

International Day of Yoga : 21 June, 2019

Inspite of the school being off for the summer break, APS Jalandharobserved the International Day of Yoga. Dr Saksham Singh, Principal and

Mrs Mandeep Talwar Vice Principal, joined 243 NCC  cadets from  APSJalandhar and other city schools in the celebrations. Mrs Davinder Saini,the school’s Yoga teacher apprised the children about the significance ofthe day, the benefits of Yoga, and how to make it a part of their  lives. Shealso guided them through the steps  to perform some simple asanas, while

explaining the benefits of each. She was assisted by ANO Mrs AshuDhawan, the school’s NCC teacher.

THE SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL’S INVESTITURE CEREMONY 30 JULY, 2019

The true meaning of education is to prepare students to be good leaders.To help students realize their duties and responsibilities, Army Public

School, Jalandhar, conducted the Investiture Ceremony for theacademic session 2019-20 on 30 July 2019 and honoured the various

badge holders which include the School Captains, House Captains,House Prefects and Sports Heads. The Chief Guest for the event was Brig

Amaresh Panwar,CSO,HQ 11Corps,Chairman,Army Public School,Jalandhar. Master Rohan Pawar and Miss Guneet Kaur of class XII took

over the Student Council as the School Captains. The Chairman, BrigAmaresh Panwar,Dr Saksham Singh, the Principal, Ms Mandeep

Talwar, the Vice Principal and the teachers, honoured all the houseappointees with badges and sashes. The School Captains pledged tofulfill all their duties and responsibilities and lead the 90 member

strong Student Council. The Chairman congratulated the schoolappointees in his address and exhorted them to brace their

responsibilities with utmost dedication and sincerity. The entireStudent Council took oath to serve their institution to the best of their

capabilities.

Workshop on Inclusive Education Practices In Regular Schools

‘Samavesh’, a five day workshop on ‘Inclusive Education Practices In Schools’, was held in the schoolfrom 16 – 20 July, 2019. 87 teachers from 39 Army Pre Primary schools and primary classes of ArmyPublic schools of major cantonments of the Western Command attended this workshop. This was thesecond phase of the workshop, conducted as part of ‘Project Asha Kiran’, an AWWA initiative thatfocuses on providing a common learning platform for children with special needs.It was inaugurated by Mrs Simmi Dutta, Zonal President Vajra AWWA, by lighting the ceremoniallamp. The Resource Persons for the workshop were Mrs Venella Rawada, an eminent educationistand special educator and Mrs Shailaja Rao, former HOD, National Institute For TheHandicapped(NIMH), Hyderabad.During the workshop, teachers learnt about the types of disabilities hindering learning in children,strategies on how to identify and categorise them through standardised tests, how to conduct andevaluate these tests, how to frame the syllabi suiting the individual needs of the ‘special children’,how to convince parents to accept the situation and co-operate with the school to work towards theirchild’s progress, and, how to best implement the said concept in their institutions, with theauthorities support.Actual case studies on Pre Primary and Primary class students of local Army schools, compilingreports on their findings and submitting them to the subject experts for evaluation was an integralpart of the workshop. The resource persons appreciated the performance of the delegates.A special session called ’Sensitive Mind Games’was conducted for children to sensitise them towardsthe limitations of their school / classmates and help them understand how to relate to them and helpthem. At the conclusion of the workshop, Mrs Simmi Dutta presented certificates to the participantsand wished them well for the future.

Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations : 26 July,2019To pay homage to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our motherland so that  we

all could live in peace, a special morning assembly was held in school.Students of class VI Epresented a  brief history of the importance of this day for our country,  followed by a speechon how and why this battle began, how it was fought in the most difficult of conditions on the

highest battlefield on the planet, how against all odds our soldiers unfurled the Indiantricolour on the mighty peaks of Kargil,  and how their sacrifice inspires us. A patriotic group

song dedicated to the bravehearts  was also sung by the students, followed by the nationalanthem.

In the Activity period, a short film on the theme ‘Kargil Diwas’ was screened for all thestudents in their respective classrooms.

20 students from class  X and XII represented the school at the wreath laying ceremonyorganised by the Vajra Corps at the Vajra Shaurya Sthal, where the Chief Guest Lt Gen

Arvind Dutta GOC 11 Corps, laid the wreath commemorating the occasion and addressed  thestudents, motivating them to dedicate their services to the nation.
