What’s New...

We Are Starting a Clothes Closet!

We are excited to announce our New Clothes Closet program made possible by a generous

University donor.

The Career Center will now help students in need of short term use of professional attire for career fairs and interviews by providing access

to our new Clothes Closet.

In order to offer a variety of styles and sizes we continue to accept clothing, accessory and

shoe donations. Please contact Victoria Scheid, [email protected], if your organization is willing to

support this initiative.

Go IRISH Tips and Best Practices

5

Early fall is a high-traffic time both for our office and for our recruiting site, Go IRISH. To ensure you’re putting the best information out there for students, take a few moments to login to your Go IRISH account to review for the following information:

1. Logo, website, company description. Your Go IRISH profile may be the first impression a student has of your company. Make sure to brand your page by uploading a logo and filling in as many of the fields as possible. Remember to keep this information updated.

2. Create a “job posting” even if you don’t use Go IRISH to collect resumes. If your company is attending the career fair but has no job listings, a student may not realize you are attending the fair until the day of, when they receive a map. This is because the student only searched Go IRISH for career fair jobs instead of reviewing the company list. If you create a general posting linking back to your website and inviting students to stop by your booth for more information, you should see an increase in booth traffic and online traffic.

3. Advertise: The Career Center only does basic advertising for employer events (listing in weekly email and on website). As employers, you should add information about your information session to your job posting, send an email blast to students with your fall on campus schedule, and/or take out an advertisement in the student newspaper, The Observer. For extra visibility, consider our Digital Sponsorship package.

4. Cast a wide net with your selection of majors. One of the most popular search filters for job listings on Go IRISH is by major. Select a wide variety of possible majors so as not to limit your visibility among the student population. Avoid the undeclared major selection. This is only a classification for some students during their sophomore year and even then, no one is looking for jobs that are specifically seeking undeclared majors. If you recruit all majors, simply choose the College level option (ex. Arts & Letters).

5. Update your application deadlines. Go IRISH defaults to organizing job postings by the application end date. That means if you recruit on a rolling deadline or have a long application period, your job is probably consistently far, far down on the page. If possible, set an application deadline within 30-60 days of the current date. You can always update the dates later to keep the position open.

In the Spotlight...

Victoria TraugerCareer Exploration Specialist

Victoria Trauger joined the Career Center in April as a Career Exploration Specialist and a liaison to the College of Engineering and the College of Science. She works with students going into the following industries: biotechnology, construction, energy, environmental, healthcare, manufacturing and transportation. She collaborates with the College of Engineering students, clubs and faculty liaisons for Engineering Industry Day and the surrounding events.

Victoria received a Master of Science in Education, Counseling and Personnel Services from Fordham University in New York City. Her graduate program gave her an extensive background in career development theory and assessments. Her experience working with high school students at an independent international boarding and day school prepared her to help students discover their strengths, interests and goals. Victoria’s combined work and graduate experience led her to volunteering at the Career Center at New York University. More recently, after moving home to New Jersey, Victoria gained additional experience at Muhlenberg College’s Career Center and at Lafayette College’s Career Center in Pennsylvania where she counseled undergraduate students and alumni in regards to the internship, career, and job search. When Victoria is not working with students you can find her traveling to new places, trying new restaurants, or somewhere close to the water.
